1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2026

Truck started ticking/clicking a few months back and the esc or ecs light came on took it to the dealer carl black Chevrolet in orlando, where the was supposed to to fix the problem under the previous owner, my boss who gave me the truck and 30 days after receiving the title the motor is bad. Mileage now is 112,000, the truck has burned the right fuel and had proper oil changes. Now the motor is blown as per a certified mechanic northeast auto and truck service in ocala. First owner called general motors to see if they could help and was told it should have gone to a chevy dealer so they won’t or cant help. Motor is blown on a truck with low miles and this is how chevy appreciate its drivers who purchase their vechiles. Buy american, they say…wow! on [xxx] the same reading came on again. This time it said service emergency brakes, parked it, went in store to purchase food, came out, started truck, drove 4 miles, parked truck went in to work and three hour later came out and white smoke rolled out the back and inside cab. What the heck! embarrassing … had to leave truck… chevy replace this engine, please. Was concerned about it information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2026

Valve cover leak, known issue by gm, TSB 22-na-027, refusing to warranty known problems & charge the customer $4,000 in repairs.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2026

While driving on the freeway, the truck suddenly displayed a flashing check engine light along with multiple warning/error messages. I was able to limp the vehicle to the nearest mechanic, where they inspected it and confirmed catastrophic internal engine failure. Upon removing the oil pan, they found large copper-colored metal chunks and metallic glitter throughout the engine oil, indicating severe internal bearing/component failure. The vehicle is no longer safe to operate and now requires major engine repair or replacement.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2026

On 4/27/26, my family and I were traveling south on colorado c470 at 8 am. Our 2021 chevy Silverado 1500 had catastrophic engine failure at highway speed as we were passing an 18 wheeler. The failure caused the vehicle to lose power and engine, and the display said to put the truck in neutral and restart the engine. After coasting to the shoulder, the engine would not restart. We were stranded on the highway during rush hour for an hour and 1/2 waiting for a tow truck. This scenario is identical to the safety risks outlined in NHTSA recall 25v274 (and investigation pe 24-007). This failure resulted in the intake manifold being physically displaced and damage to the timing assembly. The dealership is attempting to deny coverage by claiming the "upper gallery" damage (timing/intake) is unrelated to the "lower end" issues covered under the special coverage/recall [ this is a dealer quote]. This logic is technically flawed: consequential damage: a catastrophic lower-end failure (e. G. , a broken connecting rod or seized crankshaft bearing) at 80 mph creates the massive internal pressure required to shatter or "blow off" a plastic intake manifold. Timing linkage: the timing chain is physically connected to the crankshaft. It is mechanically impossible to have a catastrophic crankshaft failure at high rpms without causing secondary damage to the timing gears and "upper gallery". Recall precedence: my vehicle exhibits the exact failure mode—loss of motive power due to bearing failure—currently being investigated by the NHTSA for 2019-2024 l87 engines.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2026

While operating my vehicle under normal driving conditions, I experienced a sudden and complete loss of engine power without warning. The engine shut off abruptly in active traffic, creating an immediate safety hazard and increasing the risk of a collision for myself and surrounding motorists. Following the stall, the vehicle would not restart. The engine cranks but does not start (a “dry crank” condition). There were no prior warnings, indicators, or drivability issues suggesting an impending failure. This vehicle is equipped with the l87 6. 2l v8 engine, which is subject to a known recall involving internal engine defects that may result in sudden failure. The symptoms and failure mode observed are consistent with reported cases of internal engine damage, including potential bearing or rotating assembly failure. At the direction of gm and the dealership, the vehicle was previously brought in for recall inspection. The recall was subsequently marked as completed. However, I am now being advised that the recall cannot be reopened and that I am responsible for the repair costs. A completed recall inspection does not eliminate manufacturer responsibility when the underlying defect later results in failure. I understand there is an ongoing and recently reopened NHTSA investigation into gm’s “pico test” inspection process, as multiple engines have reportedly failed after passing this procedure. Given that this failure occurred after the recall inspection was completed, this incident raises concerns regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of the prescribed remedy. This event represents a serious safety issue due to the sudden loss of power in traffic without warning. I am submitting this complaint to document the failure and to request further review of the recall remedy and associated inspection process.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2026

I completed the n252494003 recall inspection on my 2021 chevy Silverado 1500 6. 2l at carl black Buick/chevy/GMC in roswell, GA. They said my crankshaft was not one of the vehicles affected and sent me on my way with my free oil change as a remedy to the issue. I subsequently used that information, thinking the “bottom assembly” of my motor was good and not impaired, and proceeded to have the dod/dfm deleted from the motor because it was a known fail point and this work cost me $7,000. Maybe 6 months after my inspection for the recall, I begin to hear a noise and I take it to the same dealership for service and they tell me the crankshaft is faulty. Nothing about the dod/dfm delete and subsequent ecm tune had any impact on the crankshaft and yet, the dealership is denying fault when it was there service department hid the truth of the engine during the inspection. The warranty for the crankshaft is no longer applicable because of the modifications I did, but had they been honest about the faulty crankshaft, I would’ve never done that work to it in the first place. The engine should’ve been flagged during inspection and replaced.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2026

For the second time in my 2021 Chevrolet silverado with a 5. 3-liter engine, I've had gm lifter failure. It's directly related to the active fuel management system (afm), and was confirmed by my Chevrolet dealer's mechanic and service writer, burdick Chevrolet in cicero, new york, on both occasions. They've had to perform a multi-thousand-dollar lifter replacement service job. They've told me that gm is aware of the safety issues, but won't do anything about them. It also happened to me with my 2014 Chevrolet silverado, but I was lucky that time. It was fixed with new spark plugs and wires. It's cost me thousands of dollars for repairs each time. But that's not why I'm reporting this to NHTSA. The issue is safety. When the lifters fail, you get no warning. The truck rattles and rumbles. It becomes unstable on the road, and sometimes wobbles as if it's about to go out of control. The problem causes the loss of electronic stability control (esc) and renders the electronic parking brake useless. Lifter failure can also cause the engine to stall while driving, especially at a stoplight. This happened to me. I had to press the gas pedal gently to keep the engine running at a stop light just to get off the road. On the highway, when the lifters fail, the truck slows to a point where it cannot keep up with traffic. That presents a dangerous situation. It's not safe. Gm knows about it, but as far as I understand, the company has done nothing to fix the safety problem. Internet forums are full of comments about the problem, the safety issues, and the enormous cost of repairs. Surely your agency can compel gm to fix the lifter failure problem before someone suffers a major accident due to an uncontrollable vehicle. I'll never buy another vehicle with afm. Many people are unaware of the dangers involved with this system. Gm should get rid of it. [xxx] skaneateles, [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2026

I brought my vehicle to the dealership on March 7, 2026, to address the outstanding safety recall. However, I was informed that the recall repair cannot be completed until I first pay $1,100 to replace the idler pulley. Unfortunately, an unexpected $1,100 expense is not currently in my budget. It is quite concerning to continue driving a vehicle with a known risk of losing propulsion, as the increased risk of a crash is a significant safety worry for me. I would appreciate any assistance or alternative solutions you can provide to ensure this safety recall is resolved. Please find the message from the dealership: additional diagnostic recommendations: we are going to want to get the idler pulley replaced 1st as it can cause unwanted noise and vibration during the testing with the pico scope. After the repair take the vehicle on a good test drive get it good and warm then retest the engine with the pico scope and proceed with those test results. We still want to make sure it is tested correctly if the engine passes just note under special coverage n252494003 this special coverage covers if an engine failure occurs in the vehicle as a result of the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. 23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2026

The engine was burning oil, so did a consumption test. The dealer took apart the engine and found the rings for the pistons were leaking and scaring was resulting. This caused me to buy part of a new engine because it was 6days past warranty with only 44,000mi on it. Also, at 18,000mi, a lifter bent and needed that replaced. There are numerous reports for this engine. It should be recalled! I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for the defaulted error proned engine.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

I am writing because I have a truck with the 6. 2l l87 engine and it has been burning oil at every start up and acceleration from stop signs or stop lights, it blows out a blue cloud of smoke. I have asked jeff belzers in lakeville , mn to look and they did not as my VIN did not show up in the recall. I took it to maur Chevrolet in inver grove heights, mn and they told me that my miles were too high and they did not do an oil consumption test. I am burning 2 1/2-3 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. I called the gm customer service line and they said there is nothing they can do except note it, so if I do get it repaired and pay for it, I could possibly get reimbursed in the future. If there is a known issue with this engine and there being 3 different engine builders, than why is it that my engine doesn't fall under that recall. It has all the symptoms of the engine failure that is specified in the recall? and it started about 6 months ago. Thank you sincerely, [xxx] p. S. I have 136,000 miles and the special coverage warranty runs out at 10 years or 150,000 miles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2026

On February 12th, the check engine light came on in my 2021 chevy Silverado 1500 with the l87 6. 2 l engine. The following morning, I took it to the shop and had it checked. It was diagnosed with crank shaft bearing coming apart. I contacted the dealership and they told me that my VIN was not associated with the l87 recall, but that they would see if gm would be willing to help with the costst associated with replacing the engine. They agreed to pay for about 30% of the repair. I pointed out to them that my engine was manufactured in the tonowanda, NY plant which is the site where many of the recalled engines were manufactured. They still refuse to cover the cost of the new engine. I feel that they should cover my costs since the engine was manufactured in the plant and broke down for the exact reason for the recall. My costs are over $10,000 due to their defective engine. Please add my VIN to the recall.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2026

As I was driving my 2021 Chevrolet z71 pick up I had a warning light appear on the dash indicating the safety traction control system was faulty, at the same time my truck had a loss of power as if it was not operating on all cylinders. I could hear some strange noises that were not normal, at the same time my transmission was shifting abnormally. I managed to drive to a dealer and was told it was a collapsed lifter on cylinder #5 this occurred out of no where, I was informed what took place could have damaged the camshaft and I could be looking at a repair cost upwards of $5,000. 00 and the service writer indicated this has been an ongoing issue with the 5. 3 liter engine. My truck has been serviced at the dealership it was purchased from, and all oil changes have been performed within a reasonable window from when oil changes and service inspection has been recommended by general motors.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2026

My vehicle has been at the dealership since February 4 due to a transmission failure involving the valve body, which is currently on national back order along with the converter. These parts are required to complete the repair, and the vehicle is not drivable. This issue occurred after previous major repairs, including engine lifter replacement and a cv axle repair. It has now been 71 days without a repair. The dealer has confirmed the failures, but the manufacturer has not provided a repair timeline or a definitive solution. I have not received consistent updates since March 19, and the vehicle remains out of service with no estimated completion date. .

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

I just bought this truck off a used car lot certified dealer and I noticed the engine light on then the truck would hesitate to start and I know the battery is dying so I looked it up and I got a recall on 2021 chevy silverado just like mine just wondering why mine is not under recall or why won’t mine get fixed but everybody else is the same year in the same problems can get fixed. 31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2026

Starting back in June 2025 loss of engine power multiple times. Many times almost hit from behind as I turned onto a highway. Found out vehicle had a stop sale recall at the time of purchase and I had issues with back right tire. Took truck to a tire shop and learned that the wheel was welded in many places and fracture was visible. Finally, got the dealership to pay attention in October to my concerns. They were going to allow me to trade the vehicle out for another one while paying off the bank but that’s not what they did. They attempted the repair and tried to hand it back to me. 1/27/26 was recently told this was corrected, and the sales person told me when he picked it up from shop he couldn’t go more than 30 mph. Dealership management told him not to tell me. I am submitting this complaint for immediate review regarding ruiz ranch motors (spring branch, TX) for an illegal vehicle sale, prolonged withholding of my vehicle, misrepresentation of a “loaner” vehicle, and coercive threats involving law enforcement. This matter involves ongoing safety risks, financial harm, and improper dealer conduct affecting both myself and my minor child. Summary of key facts (concise): • on June 25, 2025, I purchased a 2021 Chevrolet silverado (VIN 1gcuyhet7mz155657) from ruiz ranch motors, financed through ally financial. • the vehicle was subject to a gm stop-sale / no-sale safety recall (NHTSA 24v797000) at or around the time of sale. • I repeatedly raised safety concerns beginning shortly after purchase. These concerns were dismissed for months. • in November, ruiz ranch motors took possession of my 2021 silverado under the representation that they were “working on trade numbers” and a solution to correct the experience. Misrepresented “loaner / trade” vehicle: • I was provided a 2023 Chevrolet silverado, represented as a potential trade option, no trade was made (only dealership delay) this vehicle now has a engine light and no cooperation from dealership.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

Good morning, while driving and starting my chevy Silverado 1500 with 3. 0 durmax it will suddenly go into a “limp mode” reducing speed and power. Recently while driving on a highway it reduced engine power causing the vehicle to slow down suddenly with many cars speeding by. This caused me to try and pull over the vehicle and avoid hitting other vehicles. When pulling codes off the vehicle there is a p1098 which refers to the engine coolant control valve. This will cause the vehicle to do the described power reduction. Upon researching the issue gm has recognized and released a special coverage to fix the issue. N252508341. However my vehicles VIN does not pull up the coverage. All the characteristics of the coverage seem to fit the model and issues I have. It’s the same year, model, engine, etc. I’ve attached a dot report of the special coverage. I’m hoping this will help fix my vehicle and others with this same issue. Although it’s not specifically listed as a safety recall, I feel the cause of the sudden power reduction is known by gm and warranty issued and the problem should be resolved for all vehicles with this issue. Thank you!.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2026

Check engine turned on and at the same time the vehicle turned into safety mode abruptly, it slowed down to 10 miles an hour while on the high way and receiving a message stating that the "engine power reduced", the issue was presented to the dealership and they believe to be fixed with a sensor issue, the light came back on a few days after the initial repair and once again the engine lost power while driving the vehicle, the vehicle was then taken back to the dealership for repair once again, both times I mentioned the service bulletin, which they did not consider in their repair, stating that the issue was specific for a code (which all codes present are in the service bulletin) the 2nd repair was done on a actuator, which they stated should fix the issue, and did not, a 3rd time the vehicle lost power while hauling a trailer, this time I brought up the concern of them not reviewing the service bulletin, this time they confirmed that the service bulletin was the issue causing the check engine light (gm service bulletin 21-na-149) now they are looking to slowly start repairing the issue and wait for the check engine light to turn on again to then go back and forth and review step by step the instructions in the bulletin.
