Truck shudders when you try to maintain speed. The service engine light is on all the time. Rpms bounce up and down constantly. GMC dealership said it needs a new torque converter. It was $100 just to diagnose it!.
No reverse in transmission and sporadic engagement and shifting in forward gears.
Truck has under 45k miles on it. After reaching 35-40mph, it began to shake and jolt. Once we drove approximately 20miles, the engine light began flashing, in addition to the parking break light turning on. The truck began to lose power and we were forced to pull over on the side of a busy road. After waiting a little bit, we were able to drive it to our local shop who advised us to tow it back the the dealership for repairs.
The transmission is making a clanking noise during the lower gears. The local dealer said the transmissions is "done for". The truck has around 125,000 miles on it. The truck is available for inspection. When checking for recalls, I saw the GMC were being recalled for the same issue.

General motors is selling vehicles that are unsafe, unreliable, and unfit for consumers. My experience shows a clear pattern of negligence, misrepresentation, and disregard for public safety. On or about April of 2021, I purchased a 2021 chevy silverado rst z71 from vetter chvrolet for about $56,000. Gm promoted this vehicle as safe and dependable. Within the short 4 years of owning this truck, I faced major failures: engine issues, transmission problems and electrical malfunctions causing the parking break to engage on its own, at highway speeds of 70-80 mph on which nearly caused a serious accident, and failed electronic stability control (esc) system. This system helps maintain vehicle control, and a problem with it can affect braking, steering, and handling, despite following gm’s maintenance guidelines, gm delayed repairs, denied coverage on certain failures, and left me with thousands in out-of-pocket costs. The vehicle remains unreliable and unsafe. For myself and my family, 2 children under 3 years old and one on the way. This is not an isolated issue—gm has a long history of recalls and defect cover-ups. These vehicles put lives at risk, cause financial hardship, and violate consumer trust. No one should fear for their safety in a vehicle marketed as “dependable. ” this has impacted me by having : • expensive repairs • loss of transportation for extended periods • ongoing fear of driving a defective vehicle with my family in it. Loss of use of my vehicle • fear and emotional distress driving an unsafe product I have contacted gm and the dealership multiple times. Responses were dismissive, repairs were inadequate, and gm refuses accountability. Requested resolution: full reimbursement for all related costs buyback (preferred) of the vehicle or permanent repair at no cost public acknowledgment and stronger quality control. Warning to consumers: think twice before trusting gm. Their failure to correct dangerous defects shows profits matter more than safety.

Transmission began shifting hard over between 60500 and 62000 miles. Dealership test drove and confirmed it was not normal. The transmission pan was dropped and contained metal shavings and bits. Dealer replaced transmission. During late February 2026, I began noticing some hard shifts again, but am hesitant to pay another $699 diagnostic fee and replacement transmission cost because I feel I am wasting money on a poorly designed and unreliable transmission. I don’t feel confident relying on this vehicle for transportation to medical appointments anymore.
The transmission shudders during light throttle at cruising speeds and low rpms, tachometer show continuous jumps in rpm and vehicle loosing power. No check engine lights. Concerned that transmission behavior can make the vehicle a hazard on highyways. Shuddering and hesitation on acceleration. Transmission fluid was changed at 70k miles and symptoms still persist. Current mileage 71k.
On August 10th 2025 I was driving down the 5 freeway to the airports all of a sudden I notice my check engine light is on. It was Sunday Chevrolet is closed so I got off the exit to go to auto zone in xxx. I stop at a red light my engine shuts off. I tried to turn it back on twice and it starts to smoke where the battery is. I have it towed to Chevrolet fairfield. Where they figure out my ground wire came loose and shorted out. I paid for that to get fixed upon returning to get my vehicle on August 31, 2025 I drive not even 10 miles down the road and I hear a boom and then really loud clanking. I blew my engine. It was diagnosed with the same problems as other 6. 2 gm motors. I have it towed back to fairfield Chevrolet. It sat in fairfield for a couple months due to me working out of town for work and the manager from fairfield Chevrolet started giving me problems harassing me saying that if I didn’t get it off of his lot he was going to start charging me. So I had it towed from Chevrolet fairfield to my house in [xxx] where it has sat since. I have been going back and forth with chevy because I know of the recall however my VIN is not in that recall yet it is the same problems as all the ones with the recall. I am really wanting to fix my vehicle as it has been almost 9 months. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Transmission is making rattling or ticking noise when accelerating , I'm getting hard shifting in 1st and 2nd and some random gears , I have been launched forward when coming to a stop , some hard shifting when kicking down to pass.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the rear wheels locked up, causing the vehicle to slide across the road. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle and came to a stop in the middle of the road. The check engine and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact turned off and then restarted the vehicle and became aware that the transmission failed to shift into the intended gear. The vehicle was towed to the contact's place of employment. The contact who is a certified mechanic performed a diagnostic test and retrieved dtc: p0747, indicating a failure with the pressure control cylinder in the transmission. The contact also found information on NHTSA campaign number: 24v797000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included int the recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,830.
Transmission shifts rough, shudders, has hesitation at times, makes the vehicle feel like it is missing from jerking. Have not contacted dealer. No warning lamps, messages. Occurred a week after purchasing vehicle.
I was driving in a straight line at 45mph when my truck jerked to one side. It felt like the back of the truck was sliding out from behind me and also felt like my truck was being pulled to a stop. A check engine light came on. I drove it back to my house (approximately 3 miles). The light went away but came back, and the transmission started overheating even though I was only going 10-20 mph. The truck randomly did the same jerking action while going home. I had to drive slow to get home. There was no warning when this happened. No lights, sounds, or other warnings. The jerking motion almost made me hit other cars, and almost made me lose control of the vehicle. It is available for inspection if needed. It has not been looked at yet because I found this website when researching the problem online. If you want to inspect it, then you need to inspect within 2-3 weeks because I’m military and I am getting stationed overseas.
Belt tensioner/idler pulley began chirping during warm up after starting engine. Noticed serpentine belt was beginning to fray on edges. Dealership confirmed the pulley failed prematurely and caused the serpentine belt to be damaged. Dealership replaced pulley and belt. It was just after warranty expired. The belt is supposed to be replaced at 100,000 miles as routine maintenance, but the failure of the pulley, which the dealer informed me was also premature, but common, was not covered under warranty. Power steering was lost one time in park and a message showed on the dash, but went away after restarting the vehicle.

Driving ashland pass in or, the transmission over heated with the truck dinging for us to pull over an idle, there is no where to pull over on ashland pass for 8 miles. After sitting in an unsafe location with the truck idling wasting fuel we where able to get back on road after 30min. Upon arrival to location we where able to see that the exhaust system sits right on the transmission pan heating it up when truck is running. This model does not have a dip stick to check transmission fluid resulting in a $2500. 00 drop an drain to which I am told by the mechanic that this needs to be done every 40k. That is alot of cost 2x a year.
Vehicle is shifting harshly. Looked up recalls. "certain" 2021 Silverado 1500's have recall for transmission problem that can cause rear wheels to lock up and cause a crash. Gm says my truck is not included in the recall. I have filed an official complaint with gm.
Vehicle started with vibration at speed 45mph and sometimes it gets worse already balance the wheels twice and same issue so I took it to another shop and they found that my vehicle has hesitation and shuddering also really hard down shift.
Transmission shuddering and vibration.
At approximately 67,000 miles I noticed upon starting and putting it in gear the motor would rev/clunk while going into gear. Shifting from one gear to another the truck would shutter. Did not feel safe driving any distance because the truck would lock up when trying to put it in gear. I had the truck looked at after reading numerous complaints about this 8 speed transmission and wanted to make sure it was safe to drive. After test driving it a couple of times during the course of a day it was determined the transmission needed to be replaced/rebuilt. At no time did any warnings appear on the display indicating there was an issue. I had the transmission rebuilt but feel like there are many complaints and no recalls regarding this same issue.
Vehicle has started shuddering everytime I drive, normal speeds, flat roads, hills, everything. Feels like my rear end disengages and re-engages while driving. Afraid it is going to lock up completely or im going to lose all power. Dont understand why my vehicle isnt included in the recall already out for this issue.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission was shifting hard. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving at 70 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was purchased for diagnostic testing, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. Additionally, the scanner displayed a notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v797000 (power train); which the contact related to the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall and referred the contact to a Chevrolet dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that assistance could not be provided because the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Shuddering when driving. Erratic shifting and downshifting.
This is 6. 2 l l87 engine that is being recalled but this VIN is not on list. Already had lifters and rods replaced while back. Coming home from trip truck made awful noise and I lost power on the interstate. Thankfully was able to get out of traffic but waited 3. 5 hours for tow. At dealer but cant tell me when they can look at it. 60,200 miles and they are saying well we will see what we can do but your powertrain warranty ended at 60k. I have had numerous problems and these are all known by gm especially 2021 6. 2l.
My vehicle started shuttering approximately after 128,000 miles. I took it to a edwards Chevrolet dealership near my home to have it serviced. I wa told that the transmission was going out and needed to be replaced.
