general problems of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Driving at highway speeds the message center prompted us to restart the truck and put itself into neutral. Upon attempting to do so, the message center read conditions not correct to shift. We were traveling in a single lane highway thankfully on a decent where we coasted into a parking lot. The truck list all power steering and brakes. We turned the truck off and attempted to restart. Lights were randomly flickering on and off, but the starter couldn’t turn the engine over. After 3 hours of waiting on Chevrolet roadside assistance we obtained our own tow service. The truck tires had seized up causing the driver to drag the truck into the flatbed. The emergency brake kept resetting itself. The following day 7/13 Chevrolet had the truck towed to the dealership. On Monday 7/16 we were informed the engine had catastrophic failure with less than 24k miles. This is the second major engine breakdown as the first was at 5k miles where one side of the engine had collapsed lifters. Engines are on back order but in reviewing other experiences the replacements experience the same issues. The truck is not a safe vehicle to drive.

The adaptive cruse control will apply the brakes driving, it happens when driving and there is nothing in my lane as far as the eye can see. Sometimes the silverado will go from 70 mph to 30-40 or less and back to 70. Most of the time it will apply the brakes for a sec and then off. One time it locked up the brakes from the low 60 ish mph to almost stoped before I could get control. Every time this happens there is no cars, or abstractions in my lane. I have had the silverado into 2 dealers for this problem about 25 times and they can not fix the problem and I have been told that they are done working on it and they can not find the problem and I will have to live with it. I don't fell safe driving it and have told that to them. I have asked many time to have a gm engineer look at my silverado and find the problem and they did nothing to resolve the problem. I need to a get this problem addressed before I cause an accident or am in one. I also have many other problems that they cannot resolve, the blind spot mirrors light will go off all the time with nothing there or a car will pass on the left side and both the left and right mirror lights will go off. The bluetooth will disconnect from the silverado and the person I am talking to can hear me just fine and the call is no longer over the speakers in the silverado it is on the ear piece of my phone and then will go back to the speakers on the silverado. I will get an alarm that says "take wheel" with hands at 10 and 2 on steering wheel looking straight ahead. Get an alarm that have trailer light problem and will turn on blinker and it will flash quickly for 10 seconds and then is normal. Radio skips on fm, am, xm, mp3 player at times. The silverado has spent over 4 months and 25 times at a dealer since I bought it new and they have nor been able to resolve any of the problems and I have been told by gm that they are done working on this truck and they can not find the problems. My engine completely died, and a complete loss of propulsion happened. My safety was put at risk due to no power while on busy highway. This problem with l87 engines (6. 2) has been reported extensively. The vehicle was inspected for gm program # n252494000, NHTSA 25v74 for above issues and was inspected on 2025-08-28. Inspection passed, but the failure ultimatel happened on 2025-02-25. Dealer indicated engine was covered under original powertrain warranty and gm would send a remanufactured engine. Dealer has still not received the engine as of Monday (2/23), which is almost a month later. While driving on a us highway in a rural area, my engine suddenly died while driving approximately 60mph. The restart engine light came on, and I quickly was unsure what was happening as I felt myself slowing down slightly after realizing I had no power and the engine would not restart. I believe it went to neutral automatically. I was in the inside lane, and it was incredibly dangerous due to traffic around me. I could not easily exit to side of road due to the traffic, but luckily a gap formed, and I was able to abruptly get off the road. I have kids in the car daily, and this would have been life threatening had it happen in any other scenario, or especially in a larger city or busier highway. I am confident this is related to gm's issues with the 6. 2 liter engines. I have a 2023 Silverado 1500 zr2 that this happened to. The loss of propulsion is clearly due to the defect in these engines.

The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space and turning the steering wheel to the right, the vehicle surged forward going up onto the curb, and the contact depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that one week before the failure, at almost the same spot, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the forward collision avoidance warning light illuminated and remained illuminated without another vehicle being nearby. The contact turned off the vehicle, exited the vehicle and inspected the vehicle before re-entering and restarting the vehicle, and the forward collision avoidance warning light remained illuminated. The contact turned and restarted the vehicle and the warning light was no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

This truck has a problem where at low speed while turning left the engine surges and the truck speeds to 15 miles an hour unless I jam on the brakes . This started just turning left and now its starting to happen turning right . I had this truck to koons chevolet two or three times for this problem but it still persist to happen. This vehicle is dangerous.

Code p1098 associated with reduced engine power, forced speed reduction and overheating while on the freeway, limiting power and capping speed @ 55 mph. Causing dangerous issues on the highway putting drivers in a dangerous position.

While driving 60-70 mph, the vehicle lost motive power while driving uphill. The vehicle failed to shift into neutral. The contact went underneath the vehicle and removed the drive shaft. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA action number pe25001 (engine, engine, and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 66,410.

The digital gauge cluster where speedometer and other essential gauges for the vehicle failed. It is available upon request. My safety is at risk as I’m unable to determine speed, monitor abs, or monitor other essential features that the guage cluster provides. It also periodically blinks on startling me and putting my life and others in danger. The dealership has confirmed this problem and saodnit is a know issue with this year model but my particular VIN number wasn't recalled. The dealership has inspected the part. There were no symptoms or messages prior to the part failing.

I was driving to work from livingston to bozeman and the roads were bad so I was only going about 60 maybe 65 which was reasonable for the conditions this day, and out of nowhere my truck locked up and I slid it directly into the center median.

1. Coolant control valve failure 3 times within 125,00 miles causing the engine to run hot without overheating indication, losing heater and defrosting capabilities unable to operate safely with windshield freezing, 2. In addition this also caused the engine to run hot enough to burn manifold gasket and cracking manifold creating carbon monoxide to enter through cab vents. $4500 repair cost-that in order to operate safely. 3. Finally on star safety features not available due to module battery dead only after 2 years gps,emergency call and everything else included in this safety feature unavailable $1,000 cost manufacturer or dealer will not recognize any of these due to warranties and expiration.

Several things have happened multiple times now. While driving on an interstate the truck suddenly lost power then from 70 mph dropped almost immediately to 30-35 which almost caused the vehicles behind me to slam into me. Another time the auto stop came on waiting at a red light then when the light turned green the truck threw all alerts on the dash and died. Now I was parking and the esc control light came on then the trailer braking light and now the vehicle lost all power all together. I am not able to start it or even lock it.

Truck does not brake when any object enters the saftey brake zone leading driver to loose safe distance while driving. Dealer unable to fix.

Started truck and dash lit up like a christmas tree service brakes trailer brake failure do not exceed 43 mph. Check engine light was on multiple other lights were on truck is currently at dealership and gm doesn’t have a fix for issue. Part that is needed is on national back order. Haven’t made first payment and truck is already in the shop and is not safe to drive due to this issue.
