The right rear door actuator went out not allowing the door to lock or unlock, other than manually. Not only is this a theft issue, but a safety issue as well. Kids were able to open the door while driving which is an apparent safety problem and after reading numerous other reports of this same problem occurring, it is something that needs to be taken care of/recalled. This is apparently due to a cheap motor made out of china and is a fairly easy issue to resolve.

Door lock on drivers side will not lock or unlock. When pressing the remote fob to lock/unlock the truck it tries to move but will not fully go up or down all the way. The same thing happens when using the lock/unlock button from the inside of the truck. I have been locking my truck and walking away with a false sense of security. You can walk up and open my door due to this defect. The alarm will sound but entry has already been made to the vehicle. Even worse what if you needed to lock the door from the inside to avoid someone trying to gain access to you through your vehicle. You would have to remember to hit the lock knob itself because the lock/unlock button does not work. This is bad because gm knows they have chronic problem with this. Just go to the internet and type in "2008 silverado door lock actuator" and see what comes up. It is ridiculous that a company will not stand behind its product. Now that the federal government owns most of gm it will get worse. This will be the last gm product that I ever purchase.
The auto door lock stopped working for a second time. When you press the lock button, the door lock do not respond. This could cause people to become trapped in the truck, or a criminal could easily open the door to carjack the driver.
2009 Chevrolet silverado extended cab, 13,000 miles. The passenger side door lock stopped working, and the dealership replaced it under warranty. Just weeks later, the driver side door lock stopped working. Dealership, again, replaced under warranty.

The chrome plating on the interior door handles is cracking and peeling off. This has caused sharp edges which have led to many sliced fingers.

Three of the four locks on my 2008 chevy silverado no longer work when using the remote. They quit working right after the 36,000 mile factory warranty expired. The dealer told me it would cost $700 to have them replaced. I contacted chevy directly and they told me they have not had any other complaints about this problem. They wanted me to pay for a diagnosis from a chevy dealer so they could evalute the problem. It is very inconvenient, and frustrating, to have paid for automatic door locks and they quit working two years after I have the vehicle. You have to manually lock/unlock each door when it should be as simple as pushing a button. It is also a safety issue the locks don't work while the truck is being driven. Now, the rear windows don't operate from the controls on the rear doors. I can't believe, that with all the complaints that I have read regarding the same issue, chevy won't stand behind their product and fix their malfunction. Next time I think I'll buy a Ford if this is how chevy treats their customers.
On chevy silverado trucks, year 2009, the locking mechanism breaks after less than a year on all four doors causing my child to be able to open the door while the vehicle is in motion. The keyless entry, automatic locking when car is put in drive, and lock buttons will not operate and allows the lock to only open manually.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated the both rear locks were not working and the front passenger side lock, which was replaced six months ago, was also not working properly. The dealer did not say why the locks failed, but offered to repair the locks and pay for the parts if the contact paid for the labor. The contact feels the locks should not fail on a vehicle that was two years old. The failure mileage was 48000 and the current mileage was 54000.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I own a 2009 chevy pickup with a extended cab when I drive down the road the doors shutter and feel like they are going to open the dealer is saying there was a national recall for striker plates they put them on with no change I am afraid to put my kids in this truck because the doors might open and gas pedal doesn't seem to respond correctly [xxx].
The door jam to my 2009 Chevrolet silverado extended cab continuously rattles at low speeds and causes air noise at highway speeds. I have serviced the vehicle three times and it continues to be a problem. During service, the hinges, latch, and seals were all replaced.
Drivers side door lock not working properly. This vehicle equipped with auto locks which can be remote operated. The device that makes the lock work stopped working. As a result the door does not automatically lock or un lock. Also with the device being broke the remote locks do not work either. This lock failure going un noticed can leave the people in the vehicle a false sense of security. What if it failed at a passenger door where a child was sitting? what if you locked the truck, walked into the store, walked back out to your truck and someone got in while you were inside? what if you were at a red light and someone came to attack you and the lock failed. This issue could have severe consequences. It gives you a false sense of security. I took the truck to the dealer where they informed me this issue was common and they have been seeing a lot of vehicles brought in for warranty work to replace the defected part. Luckily my truck was inside the 36k warranty period so the repair will be made at no cost. However, I have since exceeded the warranty period and from this point forward it will come out of my pocket.
24 Nov 2008: bought new 2008 Chevrolet silverado pickup truck from local dealer. Discovered that the inside door handles, being located below the arm rest (as opposed to being above the arm rest in our trade-in 2007 GMC pickup truck) could not be operated without extreme pain and effort by my wife who has carpal tunnel syndrome in both arms. 25 Nov 2008: asked the dealer to take this truck back and return my trade-in truck to me. Dealer refused. Contacted manufacturer. Manufacturer refused. This design could trap my wife inside the vehicle in the event of an accident. Of special concern is an accident involving a fire in which she would need to exit without delay. I am forced to sell this vehicle at a great loss after driving it only a few miles due to this serious design safety defect.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The rear driver side door would not latch; therefore, it could not fully close as well. The door was being held shut by a rope. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and they installed a new door latch assembly. The failure mileage was 71,000 and current mileage was 72,000. Updated 11/26/08

Latch on the rear, passenger side window of my extended cab silverado does not work properly. Air rushes through as the window will not shut tight. Many others have also complained of this problem and filed a complaint.
I have the ext. Cab and on the little windows on the back doors I've had them replaced. Then they put some washers on the latch and they still leak air.
