One problem related to spare tire has been reported for the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Could not remove spare tire from vehicle. The cable lowered the tire until the secondary catch restricted the lowering any further. Followed owners manual to resolve issue, did not work. Cranked spare tire back to mounted position. Took vehicle to dealer, they had to cut the cable and unbolted the mechanism from the vehicle. The secondary catch was accessed and released from the side. The unit is no longer functional and a new unit is well over $100. I now have access to the spare but not the factory mounting position. Glad I don't get a flat tire on the highway.
