While driving at a speed of around 40 mph on a paved city street in bozeman, mt, I heard and felt a super loud clunk in my chevy engine transmission or drive train. . I immediately stopped to see if something ran into the vehicle. No apparent visual damage of any kind. It felt and sounded like like something jammed within the transmission or drive train. The truck has less than 12k miles and has been babied so far. I love the truck. Oil level is normal and nothing leaking underneath. . I took it immediately to billion GMC in bozeman. They found nothing wrong however the service manager recounted this regarding another customer who described the exact same issue with the same year vehicle and same transmission: another GMC owner experienced the same symptom before the transmission seized at highway speed and locked the wheels. Because this presents a potential loss-of-control hazard, I am requesting that Chevrolet open a technical assistance center case, document all diagnostic findings in writing, and determine whether the vehicle is safe to operate before returning it to me. The service manager who recounted this event is named jay.
Significant rust on my truck with 5200 miles.
I do not have access to my owners manual. One was not included with the truck when I bought it. I was told I could download it in the app, but I am still unable to do so.
I purchased my 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd new from wilsonville Chevrolet in oregon. Since owning the vehicle, I have experienced a noticeable shutter/vibration at highway speeds, consistently between 70–75 mph, whether towing or not. The shutter feels like it is coming from the transmission or driveline, and it occurs on multiple road types and conditions. I reported this issue to wilsonville Chevrolet, but they told me they “could not duplicate” the problem and offered no repair. I then took the truck to power Chevrolet in corvallis, who stated the tires were out of balance and replaced them. This did not resolve the issue, and the shutter at highway speed remains exactly the same. I also contacted gm directly, but was redirected back to the dealership, resulting in no progress. At this point the issue has been reported multiple times, yet no root cause or repair has been provided. I am essentially being sent in circles without a solution. There appears to be a growing history of transmission-related issues with newer Chevrolet hd trucks equipped with the allison 10-speed transmission, and this symptom seems consistent with those reports. A shutter at sustained highway speeds raises a significant safety concern, as a transmission failure at 70+ mph could lead to loss of control or power. In addition to the shutter, I have repeatedly noticed a strong “burning brake pad” smell coming from the rear of the truck. This happens randomly and has also been reported to the dealership, but no cause has been identified. I am unsure whether this is related to the transmission issue, but combined, these symptoms suggest a potential mechanical defect. Given the safety implications and the lack of resolution from authorized dealerships, I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in investigating this issue.
When towing a trailer, the trailer brakes will disconnect when applying medium to hard brake. This is when the brakes on the trailer are needed the most. The trailer lights still work when the brakes controller disconnects them. There was a recall on the 2024 Chevrolet hd trucks to "fix" this.
Tailgate has been coming open while driving. Multiple times. The last time it landed on the jack of my enclosed trailer. Without me knowing. First time was 2-3-25 and the last time was 9-2-25.
Tailgate went down on its own while driving and pulling a trailer.
During cold weather, temperatures below freezing, both sideview mirrors open fully extended contacting the fenders, sometimes open partially, sometimes open 3/4 of the way. Cycling the mirrors closed then open condition repeats. Each mirror responds independently from the other. This resulted in dents on each fender from the mirrors when they open fully. The doors cannot be opened without further damaging the fenders and or the mirrors. Once the temperature rises above freezing, the mirrors return to normal function. The truck is available for inspection upon request. Safety concern and risk exists without function and use of sideview mirrors. Cannot see down both sides of vehicle behind when operating. The safety and risk increases exponentially when towing. The problem was not duplicated at the dealership due to the vehicle was inside the shop unexposed to the below freezing temperatures. It has been reported to the dealership and inspected by the body shop manager who also acknowledged the problem and cause. Mirrors and vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance representative. There were no warning lamps to indicate an issue. The indication was the function of the mirrors and the positions they would stop at when vehicle is unlocked.
