I have a 2002, Chevrolet c2500hd pickup. The parking brake doesn't work because the rear axle seals are leaking grease onto the parking brake shoes. This problem started at about 80,000 miles. The Chevrolet dealer said there are no service difficulty reports regarding this problem so they won't fix it. The dealer said the rear axle vent is okay and the axle is not over filled. The rear axle seals should not be leaking at this low mileage (both axle seals are leaking). The pickup has been well cared for, no off road use, mostly light passenger highway service with just a little trailer towing. The rear wheel bearings are not noisy and have very little play.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving 30 mph, the parking brake cable snapped in half and caused the motor of the vehicle to shut off. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they confirmed that the cable snapped and short circuited a fuse, which caused the vehicle to lose power. The contact researched and discovered a recall explaining the same failure. He called the manufacturer and was informed that the recall did not apply to his VIN. The contact believes that his vehicle should be included since it was affected by the defect as well. The recall number was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 30,000. Updated 07/09/08

Parking brake does not hold vehicle after recalled repairs performed. Dealer refused repair.
- when contact parks on a hill and applies the parking brake, quite often the vehicle tries to drift. The contact states that weather condition aren't a problem with the drifting. He has parked on a hill when it has been dry, wet or snowing and the problem continues. The contact is concern because he has brought his vehicle over and over to the dealership and they stated that there isn't anything wrong with the vehicle. The contact can provide copies of invoices if needed.
Parked on boat ramp, in park with e brake on. Boat was off trailer (afloat). I was unhooking and winding up front strap when I noticed truck moving backward into lake. I was able to jump in and stop vehicle by applying service brakes. A tow chain was attached, I put transmission into drive and was safely be pulled out. Vehicle is a total loss. Shift selector and e-brake failures?.
