The vehicle was in a collision that occurred to the front of the vehicle causing the seat belts to lock up a burst of compressed air to come from the dash, the hazards to engage and the dome lights to engage, the vehicle then was taken into get repaired at a certified dealership, after dealing with the dealership and general motors we find out the sensor did engage for the airbags to deploy but the airbags failed to deploy properly or break through the dash, the dealership and manufacturer are now not wanting to find out why this is doing this and just put a new airbag baffle in and call it a day.

Another driver illegally turned left in front of this vehicle. The vehicles collided on each of their right front corners. The airbags failed to deploy and the shoulder belt did not restrain the driver and keep him striking his head on the steering wheel, and breaking a bone in his hand. This was a serious head-on collision that totaled both vehicles. The truck is currently at the salvage yard and is available for inspection. The driver's safety was put at risk because the two primary safety restraint systems failed. The problem has not been reproduced. Chevrolet is sending someone to download the crash data which will then be provided to their engineering department for review and analysis. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem were observed by the owner or driver before the accident.

The seat beat has been un-latching while driving. It is random when it occurs. No warnings come before this happens. Does not always need to be that I move for it to unlatch. I have been sitting still while driving and it has come undone. The seat belt has been cleaned out. No signs of defect or other damage. Available to be inspected. . Should be repaired free of charge as this is a life threatening issue.

Got my registration form to update my tags and I saw the comments at the bottom say this vehicle has a recall. . So I decided to call the dealer to set up a appointment to get it fixed when I called the dealer, they said that they didn’t have the part so they will contact me as soon as possible so I waited almost a week no response at all so I decided to call them back to find out what was going on with the update. They claim that the part is not available anymore because it is a older vehicle so they need to talk to his manager or someone higher at the dealers to find out how they can do this to get my recall fixed so they told me they will call me again as soon as possible other week pass so I need to call the dealer again because they never did. . Once I call them, they say OH yeah, I see that you already call. Let me check and find out what going on with the recall of the seatbelts!! he said you know what let me call you like an hour to found out all the information of it. . I want to say a lesson an hour they said that they couldn’t help me because my vehicle is old and the manufacture. They don’t make those seatbelts no more so they cannot help me at all. So I told him what’s the other step now if I have a recall they said yeah I’m not sure. I mean the only thing I can tell you if you look for a aftermarket seatbelt or something that’s pretty much that’s it they told me. So here I am wondering, what should I do now? not sure if it’s safe driving my vehicle like that because supposedly they don’t make a no more because my vehicle is old but you will look at my vehicle looks like brand new because I hardly drive my vehicle. It has 125000 miles on it for a 99 chevy silverado original paint looks like brand new vehicle. .

The rear seatbelts retract very slowly and now most of the time not at all. Along with that they only intermittently catch when I pull hard and quick, like when in an accident. These 2 issues with the seatbelts pose a huge safety risk and I cannot put my daughter in the back seat.

There is no passenger seat belt warning audio or visual. The dealer said that this vehicle doesn't have a sensor to tell if someone is in the seat or not. But they "assured" me that the passenger air bags still would work. Even though it has been shown that air bags by them selves are not as effective. I read that Chevrolet offered to install an on off switch for the air bags, the wrong thing to do in my opinion. The seat belt warning system should be a requirement not an option.

Drivers front seat belt tensioner not working.
When ever the vehicle is in motion. Passenger seat does not have the reminder or warning system to alert the occupant to buckle up should they forget. My dealer states the passenger air bag system is active full time however it is only marginally effective should the passenger fail to secure their seat belt. Additionally, there is no dash indicator showing the passenger seat belt buclke/no-buckle status as shown on page 86 of the 2018 silverado owners manual which discusses the passenger sensing system and airbag status indicator which is not present in this line of vehicles. Page 145 of the 2018 silverado owners manual states there "may" be a reminder light near the airbag status indicator which is not installed on this line of vehicles. Viewing similar vehicles, this condition is present in a minimum of model years 2017 through 2020 Chevrolet and GMC 2500/3500 hd crew cab vehicles. Contacted general motors customer service on 4/10/2018 & 4/24/2018 filed gm case # 9-5199434264. Gm rep called back 4/30/2018 and their solution was to have my dealership install an airbag on/off switch to disable the airbag. Not a suitable resolution to this safety issue.

As I was driving at 75 mph, the indicator light said, engine overheated. I then noticed white smoke coming from the hood. The white smoke turned black. I pulled over to the side of the road and before I could shut the engine off, the engine shut off on its own. Fire began coming up where the windshield wipers are located and proceeded through the dashboard. I tried to unlatch my seat belt but it would not release. After several tries it released. I attempted to open the door; however, I had the same problem. The door did not open. After bumping the door forcibly many times, it also came open. Mind you, all the while the flames are coming inside the cab. I called 911 and the county fire department was dispatched, but not before it was fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was well maintained. I want to know what steps to take to prevent this from ever happening again?.

My drivers side seat belt started to retract very slowly. Now it hardly retracts at all. It gets caught in the door when you close it now. The worest thing is you have open your door to free it. Not very safe if you have started to drive away. . . Dealer would not fix under any of my warrenties.
On numerous occasions the drive's seat belt has totally "released" while driving along the highway while I and other family members have driving along. These inadvertent releases were reported to my vehicles dealer (t & c Chevrolet, ashland, oregon) on may 27,. 2016 at 21261 miles. Dealer said they could not find any defect. The vehicle presently has approximately 32000 miles and the driver's seat belt still releases at unpredictable times. This situation has me very conderned about my and others safety if something un-toward happens.
The seat belts lock in place and constrict my young children to the point my wife has to crawl through the seats and do a quick release, the electric door locks on both rear and the passenger front will not release even when you push the manuel release on the master switch of the drivers door. I have been in contact with gm corp. They have informed me that it is my tough luck that's the way the seat belts are designed and they have no issues with the door locks. In checking the internet you can see there are many complaints on this. It is a hazardous situation. They informed me its up to my dealer if they will fix it or not. . . . . They declined to.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle was involved in a head on crash and the air bags did not deploy. The front passenger seat belt also failed to retain its passenger. Both the driver and the passenger suffered injuries as a result. The contact also stated that the driver of the other vehicle involved suffered injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair, but the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileages were 58,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated the seat belt pulled back very fast and tight. When this occurred there was smoke coming from the seat belt re-tractor and from underneath the drivers seat. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that it was an inadvertent deployment of the seat belt pre-tensioner. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and was told not to work on the vehicle, because they were sending someone out to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected. The failure and current mileages were 35,602.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the retractor on the driver side seat was broken. The dealer inspected the seat belt and stated that they had to replace the retractor. The seat belt was under warranty nor were there any related recalls. The contact was concerned the seat belt would not work in the event of a crash. The failure mileage was 38000 and the current mileage was 46000. Updated 02/02/11.
Both front and rear center-seat lap restraint belt latch covers (gm part # 14863), from the male end of the belt fell off. Both have received minimal use, however the tabs that hold the covers to the belt latch are broken off. This issue presents an obvious cosmetic defect and more importantly I am unsure if the affected belts are safe to use either by adults or my soon to be born daughter in a child seat. Weaver auto center in grass valley, CA informed us that gm would not furnish replacement parts for seat belts due to liability/safety reasons. Furthermore, to remedy the resulting cosmetic or safety condition I would have to purchase new seat belts.
