1 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 07/20/2017

The 2014 chevy Silverado 3500hd duramax diesel comes equipp ed with the bosch cp4 injection fuel pump. This pump is prone to failure at anytime mileage wise. The pump was used in european diesel engines with success since their fuel has a higher content of lubricity. Due to the ultra-low sulfur fuel mandated for us diesel engines this pump has a history of catastrophic results when used in the 2011-2016 duramax 6. 6l chevy engines. Metal to metal wear causes small metal fragments to enter the fuel system thereby causing engine failure. This event can happen without warning. If the engine has stopped while in motion this presents an accident waiting to happen. My concern is that I tow a 14000lb RV 5th wheel trailer with my truck. How can it be stopped safely with out the engine providing power to the braking system?. This engine is very popular among RV'ers, boaters, flatbed haulers etc; basically anyone moving a heavy load down the highway. If this incident happens when the vehicle is out of warranty the repairs can cost $8 to 12k. Many websites contain information about the cp4 failure. My son had 2 such vehicles in a small trucking fleet costing him over $20k to repair. I feel general motors should issue a recall or provide owners of this vintage truck additional coverage. This pump was also used by Ford & Dodge in the mid 2012-2014 with the same results. The may 2019 issue of "trailer life" magazine contains an article about the bosch cp4 on pages 77-81. To date my vehicle has not had this problem yet. My sons trucks blew up in July 2017.

2 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 04/20/2017

My chevy Silverado 3500 duramax diesel truck had around 52,000 miles on the odometer & was stationary when the fuel injection check ball exploded (according to the dealership) & caused the engine to stop & become immobile. The truck was towed to the nearest dealership & repaired @ around $12,000 worth of damage. Warranty covered it @ 100% & the vehicle is back running. I live in a farming/ranching part of the USA where multiple people drive diesel pickups. I have talked to multiple people who have had the exact same problem with their chevy duramax trucks (according to their dealership). When this condition occurred on their vehicles, they were driving & the vehicle became immobile. This concerns me because when the engine stops when driving you could lose power steering/full braking ability. I have a family as well as others, I do not know of any deaths related to this issue, but no engine power could result in loss of power steering/full braking ability, resulting in equipment/bodily injury. I contacted chevy customer support & submitted a claim, they said they would submit the claim to the recall department. Chevy also contacted the dealership & spoke with the service guy to confirm my claim, he said he confirmed the multiple occurrences that they have seen. As a matter of a fact, another chevy duramax was towed to the dealership with the exact issue, while my truck was being repaired. The dealership confirmed that chevy has not fixed the issue with the fuel injection system, so the repairs were made with the exact same faulty (new parts), according to the dealership. When searching for this issue on the web, multiple of the same occurrences are listed. In my opinion this issue needs to be evaluated with a corrective action put in place to prevent further incidents similar to this from happening.
