In June of 2023 I was driving my vehicle and suddenly the traction control, power steering and check engine light came on. I was able to get the vehicle safely home without the use of the power steering. Once I shut the vehicle off, it would not start again. I got the vehicle to my local dealership and they diagnosed it as one of the main wire harnesses was rubbing against a bolt near the battery, which is a known issue, and caused an electrical short in the system. It caused the ecu and electronic power steering to short out. They replaced the ecu, but have not been able to replace the eletronic power steering because it's no longer being manufactured. The vehicle at the time of incident was only 6 years old. I feel like this is a violation of the magnuson-moss act. There are no third party vendors that make this part. It has only ever been available through gm directly.
Unknown -- during driving the vehicle the radio and power steering will stop working, locks and key for occasionally have issues, and the car shuts down and has to be re-started. Sometimes will take a minute or two to be able to be re-started. If car stalls at high speeds could cause a catastrophic accident, injuring possibly killing driver or other drivers due to not being able to control the car. Car has recently been serviced replacing the radiator, coolant tank, and purge valve (this was throwing the check engine light). No codes can be found and the problem cannot be duplicated. Happens at random times, nothing triggers it.

Steering colom locks up, 4 different times. Engine shuts off. No power to turn vehicle. Vehicle at paradise Chevrolet since 3\18\24. Only steering colom, - service power steering ASAP.
The release button for the gear selector for park thru reverse on the center console broke apart including a spring that is a part of the design under normal use. This renders the car to fail in numerous unpredictable/unsafe ways e. G. Key is stuck and can't be removed/unable to move gear selector/stuck in a certain gear including neutral (possible roll away). On the internet this is reported as a prevalent defect with this chevy car and a $300 dealer repair. Looks as if you checked with owners of this car they would all report this failure.
While driving my car "gliches" the lights go on and off, the power steering stops the locks go up and down and all electronics in the dashboard go on and off. Last week, it shut down in the middle of the road and I could not start it for about 5 minutes or so. Got it home and it did it again the next day while it was parked. This started years ago. Brought it to dealer they said "well it's not doing it now". I was not educated at the time to push for anything to be done. The stopping completely while driving that happened last week.

In may of 2019 while trying to start push button car would not start lights came on in car saying service power steering and service stabilitrak I got it to dealer it was still under warranty at that time they had me replace a battery for over $200 which they say was cause only for this same thing to happen in aug2019/ which they claim they repaired both times while driving wheel tightens up and u can't steer every time this happens they claim could not service car cause they had to see the reading on dashboard then again in November 2019 the same thing happened again and now warranty is out they miraculously found other issues with the car but would not repair because of warranty out I feel they sold me a bad car and now want to charge me all this money to fix car when I did what I was supposed to do in taking car in when it was still under warranty to get it fixed and they just claim they fixed car and never did this has put my family and I in danger numerous times because I trusted that they repaired the car only to feel lied to now I am stuck with a car note on a car I can not drive and also wondering how I can get it fixed but honestly believe they will never fix car right at lonestar Chevrolet because they don't seem to know what they are doing or what's even wrong with the car I have all the paperwork from all the times I took the car in and pictures of dashboard readings.

Steering issues: when I bought the car they had to do something with the electrical system because car wouldn't do anything the day after I brought it home from the dealer. This problem is with my steering. Which happened after they service my cars airbag in my steering wheel. It was fixed twice, and now it's a problem again. I shouldn't be on the hook for paying for this.
When I cut my car off the key will not come out. It takes a good bit of messing with it for it to come out. I have put car lube on it and it didn't work. It has been going on now for over a month.
Went to pass an eighteen wheeler on an interstate and as I accellerated, the vehicle began to fishtail, when I ran over a bumpy part in the road due to a bridge that fell , I lost all stability control and control over the vehicle. We slammed into the cab of the rite entrance wheeler on the front passenger side in the front. No air bags were released. When we hit the eiteen wheeler it pushed our car towards the construction zone wire railing, the back of our vehicle on the passenger side hit the trailer. No air bags released. We then grinned across the wire railing and ran over a few cones on the drivers side. On all three impacts, no air bags were released.
The indicatior light for low tire pressure comes on but no warning chime is heared. This can be very bad when driving on the interstate. The tire was loosing pressure without me knowing and I had no clue until the vehicle ran off the road due to not being able to control it. The chime never went off. Same with an over heating issue the light came on but I did not know it was over heating until it stated shaving and steaming and I looked at the dash to see the light on.
Twice in one month the car engine shut off while I was driving. Power steering was also lost. Mileage approx. 31,000. I was able to restart the car after putting it in park. The first time, I was turning, pulling into a parking lot, so I was able to drift into a parking spot safely. Second time I was in small town bumper to bumper traffic. Took my foot off the brake and stepped on the gas and nothing happened, so I put it in park and restarted it and it seemed fine after that. Took it to dealer where I bought it, they did nothing as the car was not throwing any codes and no warning lights were on. Second garage I went to also could not find an issue so they did nothing. Took it to another dealership and the car stalled on them as they were parking it, right after I had dropped it off. They kept it for almost a week and drove it 61 miles and could not recreate the stalling. They checked the car thoroughly and nothing appeared to be wrong with it. They checked all recalls and bulletins, nothing mentioned in those. The car would also "bounce" up and down when I was stopped at a red light. That was happening more frequently once the engine troubles started. I got my car back last night from the other dealer and didn't notice any "bouncing" so maybe they fixed something when they were checking the car, however the invoice stated all they did was a 27-point inspection and alignment check. No charge to me as car is still under warranty but warranty runs out in 5 months.
The contact owned a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic. While the contact's husband was driving 35 mph in inclement weather, the condition went from rain to snow and the vehicle started to fishtail. The contact stated that the all terrain traction control system activated and the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that her husband lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The driver's side frontal air bag and the passenger frontal air bag deployed; however, the driver's frontal air bag only partially deployed. The driver sustained a fractured sternum, a fractured hip, a fractured pelvis, and internal bleeding. The contact's husband died from his injuries. The passenger suffered a mild concussion, kidney failure, and burns from the seat belts and air bag deployment. The driver and passenger were transported by separate ambulances for medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent facility. A police report was filed. Lithia Chevrolet of redding (200 e cypress Ave, redding, CA 96002, (530) 410-6002) was contacted as to what may have caused the vehicle to lose control. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 85,560.

Key sticks in the ignition, unable to remove when in park position. I work a dangerous job in bad areas and cannot depend on the key being released from the switch after parking. Whatch puts me in a awkward situation in regards to safety.
Takata recall, my car has been hit in the front end 3 times and the last time was a hard hit, none of the times have I had an airbag come out.
Soon after I purchase my car I notice when I'm on the bypass its like a feather wobbling . Then recently I'm driving and my steering wheel come up, and wont lock back.
The vehicle was purchased new with less than 50 miles on it. The vehicle sways and drifts at highway speeds. It moves left and right in the lane. I don't feel safe in the vehicle. I don't feel I am in control of the vehicle. I notice this at speeds of about 45 mph and above. I had it into the Chevrolet dealership and they reprogrammed the control module of the electric steering but the problem still persists. Gm has given me no satisfaction and no help with this matter. I don't want to drive this vehicle at highway speeds again until this is fixed.
Faulty computer/recalls I purchased the used vehicle 2 years ago and a month after the check engine light came on. I have brought this back to the dealer multiple times to fix, but it keeps happening. It is not an issue with my engine, but rather the computer. Because of the faulty computer issue, it has caused other issues in my car, including faulty reading and my inability to know if something dangerous actually was occurring in my vehicle. I am very frustrated, because this keeps happening and each year I have to deal with this issue to get my car inspected.
I was driving a 2015 Sonic dealership car because my car was in the shop for the weekend, a car was about to hit me and all did was I stepped on brakes and the steering wheel locked and ran me into a pole. I had just turned the corner, the weather was great, I was only going 15 miles.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic. While driving 20 mph, the steering wheel locked and the vehicle crashed into a ditch. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact stated that the power steering indicator illuminated before the crash occurred. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was previously repaired. In addition, smoke was seen coming from the steering wheel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
Key getting stuck in ignition. It doesn't do it all the time but when it does you have to start the car two or thre times before it comes out. I bought the car used from a Honda dealer. It has happened 6 times total. And I have had the car a month.
I've had this car for only 2 years and there is always something wrong. First I was driving and it just shut off all the light on dash board went off and from that point on nothing on the steering wheel works. No horn and none of the controls of it are working. My passenger air bag light stays on. Been in the shop 3 times still not working. Now the warning light of over heating come on everytime I have to still in traffic on my way home or driving for a over an hour, have to turn the heater on, on high to get the light and warning beeping to stop. It's already 90°, but if I don't the car start shaking. The reason I bought a newer car was to not have to put it on the shop every 4 months. So no horn, cruise control, not sure if air bag work on passenger side and to top it off have to ride with the heat on while it's 90°outside to make it home safe, ,(I think,,). . I call gm customer services over and over again, and they tell me there is not other problems with other cars. My warranty is expired. So it's on me.
In 2014 when the car was still under warranty. . . The car was taken to dealer multiple times and the issue was car applied brakes automatically when turning certain corners. . . The issue was never fixed and complaints were filed with gm for record purposes in case of an incident and as an attempt to get car fixed. . . . While this is not the exact problem occurring at the present time. . . It is a steering type problem. . . Now the power steering goes out and momentarily comes back on.
When going around a corner to right you fight steering and then car goes to left hard and it crosses center line. I feel for the safety of the owner and others on the highway this needs addressed and fixed.
A few years ago my power steering went on. It was still under warranty and I took it to the dealership to get replaced right after the warranty expired the power steering went out again. Currently my ac is broken and I've spent a good bit of money trying to fix it; yet it still doesn't work. Now my car won't start. I've relpalced the battery a couple years ago because my car kept dying. I bought this car bran new and it had caused me nothing but financial issues. I tried contacting chevy about his car a few years ago when the power steering went out. Explaining that these are major components of my car it's not like I'm complaining about changing my tires or new brakes you now normal wear and tear. I shouldn't have to deal with these issues with a new car. I know it's 5 yeas old now but this is getting ridiculous I still owe $3800 on my car and have dealt with dumping money into a vehicle that shouldn't of had any of these problems in the first place. This has caused unessasacry stress in my life. Also two of my windows don't work. So my ac is broke and I can't even roll down two windows it's a death sentence. I've had a heat stroke in my car because of it. Legitimately scared me.
Car is completely unsafe at highway speed the steering is way to touchy any slight movement and the car is all over the place. The car doesn't stay in a straight line it either goes right or left. Alignment check done everything is great and got new tires. I'm part of the Sonic owners forum and this issue isn't every Sonic it does seem to be very widespread though as you can just check the lemon law website. Something is wrong with this electric power steering don't know why they switched from hydraulic. These systems are unsafe and failure prone. I can't keep the car in a straight line at highway speeds but at normal speeds it's a lot easier to keep it straight but sometimes it does wander a tiny bit. People probably think I'm intoxicated because I'm wandering and trying to keep the car in a straight line.
