Seat Belt problem #1

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Spark m300. The contact stated that the air bag and the seat belts warning lights were illuminated, and a message stating that the air bags would not deploy in the event of a crash was displayed. The contact stated while at a complete stop at the traffic light, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer by roadside assistance, who purchased a new battery for the vehicle from the dealer; however, the dealer informed the contact that roadside assistance could not install the battery because it would interfere with the business operations. The dealer advised the contact that she would need to pay the battery installation and diagnostic testing fee. The contact declined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Seat Belt problem #3

Hello, I submitted a complaint to a local gm dealership requesting an investigation be placed into the seat belt bucks failing. I am being informed that the car is out of warranty, which is understandable. However, this is a huge safety concern as the seatbelts were not sewn into the car but rather glued or clamped. This could have resulted in serious injury and/or death to my young child who routinely rides in the back seat.

Seat Belt problem #4

On March 29th 2024, the back seat bottom belt came apart from the base strap while my 9-year-old child was in the back seat and the car was in motion. We were able to pull over to the side of the road for her to switch to the other back seat. On 4/7/2024, the second back seat belt bottom part came apart as well while the car was in motion and my 9-year-old child was buckled in the back seat. At this time, I am unable to use my car to transport my child to and from school and activities as she is not old enough to ride in the front seat. Additionally, it appears as if the adhesive holding the strap together slowly eroded over time and my fear is that if we were in a car accident what would have happened to my child now knowing the back seat belt was not fully secure. Additionally, I have concerns related to the front seat belts and if those are going to fall apart soon. I have included photos with my concern. As you can see, the belts are not ripped, torn, and are otherwise in good condition.

Seat Belt problem #5

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Spark. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the driver’s side seat belt became stuck. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the parts for the repair were on back order. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Seat Belt problem #6

Friday morning, on June 16th I went out to start my car and I noticed an I code 95 on my dashboard. It also showed my abs light, traction light, and airbag/seatbelt light. When I researched the I code 95 it said that my car had been in an accident and the airbag and seatbelt needs to be replaced. When I came home the previous night on June 15th there were no lights showing on my dashboard and I hadn't been in an accident. I also had pulled into my designated parking spot with my front tires facing the curb. When I checked my car I noticed no dents or scratches on my car. I then went to bob hook Chevrolet which is the dealership where I purchased my car, and they ran a quick diagnostic with one of those sensors that you plug into your car. Upon review, the technician said there was probably an error in the sensor, and that the results showed that my passenger side sensor was malfunctioning for the airbag and the sensor on the right front bumper was causing my abs and traction light to come on. The technician tried to reset the lights but they immediately came back on. He said he wasn't sure why the lights came back on considering that I hadn't been in an accident. This jeopardizes my safety and my passenger's safety. If I did get in a car accident my passenger would be unprotected because the airbag doesn't work. I would also be unprotected if my wheel decide to lock up during an accident. This could cause me to skid off the road. Also, it is summertime so it rains at least once every two weeks. My car is already small so I have less friction and gravity to help keep all fours wheel grounded. Anytime it rains I'm scared that my car may start to skid because the traction system isn't working. And again if the traction isn't working and I do start to skid my abs cant help me because the sensor is malfunctioning. I get regular oil changes and do winter and summer maintenance inspections. They never noticed anything wrong with my car. There we no warning signs.

Seat Belt problem #7

Seatbelt retractor isn't working. It stopped working 12-29-2022. I can't buckle my seatbelt on driver's side. I took my vehicle to daniel's Chevrolet in swainsboro, GA. Part has been ordered to be repaired and the repair is scheduled for January 10, 2023. Repair cost is $435. 00. No warning lamps, messages or other symptons of the problem prior to the failure.

Seat Belt problem #8

On or about may 31, 2021 the car alarm began to randomly go off on the vehicle. I took the car to the local dealership on July 20, 2021 and was advised that "hood latch ajar signal showing hood open randomly" was causing alarm to go off. On Aug 21, the part arrived and the hood latch was replaced. Immediately upon leaving the dealership, the radio went blank. I lost all audible sounds and alerts in the car including: seat belt alerts, key in ignition alert, blinker alert, onstar, and radio power. I returned to the dealership with the vehicle on sept 21, 2021 and the car was again repaired. I was advised that "relay and battery saver relayed" was replaced. Additionally, the service tech called gm tac and was advised that "due to the issue being intermit. Most likely cause is fuse block overloading circuit and shorting relays. If relay goes out again, will need to replace fuse block. " on oct 30, 2021 I returned to the dealership with the vehicle. At this point the alarm was going off again and the radio (all interior sounds/alarms) had gone out again. I was advised that the fuse block needs to be replaced and that this issue is not caused by normal wear and tear or maintenance. I have reached out to gm for assistance with this matter as it is obviously a manufacturer defect. They have refused to help.

Seat Belt problem #9

The contact owns a 2021chevrolet Spark m2. The contact stated while stopped at a red light when the contact was struck from behind launching the vehicle off the ground and moving forward 30ft into the rear driver side of a third vehicle in the middle of the intersection. This resulted in none of the airbags deploying and the seatbelt came unlocked and the contact was released from the restraints. 2 people were injured and sought medical treatments. The contact sustained multiple contusions, neck and back pain, a brain cyst, and bruising all over the body. A police report was taken and the vehicle was towed to a police lot then towed again to the contacts insurance lot where it was awaiting diagnosis. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

Seat Belt problem #10

All of the airbags were too strong. The doctor thought my leg was broken from the leg airbag. I was even wearing ugg boots to my knees, so I would have had a worse injury without them. I got a concussion from the airbag that hit my face and my nose was broken. My left hand was severely bruised almost covering the whole hand, my legs were bruised with cuts all over. There were bruises as if pieces were flying at my legs from within the airbags. One circular bruise on my leg lasted almost a year. Also, the seatbelt was too harsh. It pulled at my shoulder and the injury has lasted until now. My passenger had cuts on her legs and severe bruises on her stomach from the seatbelt. We were in a head-on accident with the other car going about 45 at us and going faster and faster.

Seat Belt problem #11

Front and rear passenger and driver side airbags deployed without impact while taking a right turn, traveling approximately 10-15 mph from one side street to another. The impact of the airbag caused the driver to veer to the right striking the curb. Contacted gm and their investigation determined it was not a manufacturing issue. They denied the claim and would not pay for repairs. Currently waiting to hear back from the insurance company.

Seat Belt problem #12

Since the day I have bought this car 2 1/2 years ago it will die, even while driving at 50 mph. Recently it hasn't been starting every time. Chevy says the battery is bad. Had the battery checked at 8 other places, they all said battery was fine. He had tested the battery right after I tried to start it for two hours. When you pull the negative cable off the battery, there is still 2 amps bring drawn off the battery. With nothing on, no dime light, no radio, no air. And I've told them forever that my seatbelt warning signs don't work properly. But they can't seem to reproduce any problems.

Seat Belt problem #13

I just returned a leased Spark ev and purchased a 1lt Spark. The 2017 model year had changes, but the issue is that the seat belt height is no longer adjustable! I am very short, and the seatbelt crosses my throat or collar bone area, which would injure me unduly in the event of a crash. I ordered the car, and still want it. . . But I want a fix for this problem from Chevrolet. This is very upsetting -- I have never had a car without some sort of manufacturer's adjustments for short and tall drivers. One sizing doesn't safely fit everyone. I am uploading a picture of the non-height adjustable safety belt, and one of how it fits a short person (me. . . . 62 inches tall) which I believe is unsafe. For all the safety recalls I have returned cars for in the past, this is as good or better a reason for a recall as any other.
