Component affected: suspension / steering / wheels / front hub assembly description of the safety defect & incident: proactively brought the vehicle to two separate authorized Chevrolet dealerships due to a severe thumping noise when turning the steering wheel. I explicitly stated to service staff that the vehicle felt unstable and unsafe to drive. Both dealerships performed inspections, stated they found no issues, and released the vehicle back to me. Shortly thereafter, while driving at full highway speed during rush hour, the front-end suspension/hub assembly suffered a catastrophic structural failure. The front driver-side wheel completely turned sideways and broke off, causing the vehicle to drop directly onto the pavement and skid violently across the highway. I narrowly avoided a multi-vehicle collision and managed to slide the vehicle to the shoulder. The wheel hub assembly completely separated from the steering/suspension structure, rendering the vehicle totally disabled. This failure matches the catastrophic hazards associated with recent gm front-wheel hub bolt relaxation and separation safety notices.
