Consumer owns 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. Two of the electrical motors had gone out on the power windows, two separate windows. She took vehicle a garage t to have window motors replaced , and the mechanic called the dealer for parts, and was told that the motor was already on back order, she said that this showed her that she was not the only one having this problem. Also, had a problem with electrical locks, they failed. The driver's door will open automatically but the other doors have to be opened manually. The front doors had exterior locks , and one could unlock them from the outside. But, the rear doors did not have exterior locks. She had to reach them from the front to manually unlock the rear doors to get in from the outside.

I have a 2000 chevy Suburban and a 1999 GMC sierra truck both vehicles have problems with the door handles not coming back to the proper position to latch properly without manually pushing them in after you close the door. This has caused my doors to open and almost having one of my children fall out while going down the road. This is a problem that has been ongoing since I bought the vehicles. The door handles stay in the out position when closed instead of being pulled into the door handle and latching. It also prevents a person from getting out of the car if the door does latch they need to roll the window down to push the handle in or have somebody else push the handle in so you can unlock the door.

Driver's door electric door lock actuator failed and left door completely disabled. Unable to manually release, key fob non-functional, door key would not unlock the door. Locksmith was forced to disconnect the actuator through window channel by forcing attached rod out of actuator. The passengers side door lock also became inoperable (locking portion) when the drivers door failed. Factory service shop tested both actuators and has determined they are defective. I understand that parts fail but something should be done to insure that if the actuator fails it reverts to the unlocked position.
I drive a 1998 Suburban and my husband drives a 1997 GMC 2500 truck. The interior door handle (used to open the door) has broken three times in his truck and it has difficulty catching and needs to be replaced in my Suburban.

Left and right rear door locks are often immobilized in the locked position, preventing the doors from being opened from either inside or outside the vehicle. It is not related to temperature. The left rear door failed first, and now can rarely be opened. The driver's door is also showing signs of failure. This is a design and a manufacturing defect. It's a manufacturing defect because the doors are failing in large numbers, and it's a design defect because the doors can't be unlocked manually when the power locks fail. The dealer said the door actuators and latch assemblies must be replaced. Chevrolet customer assistance said the vehicle is out of warranty, and the problem is not a safety defect, so I am responsible for the repair, approximately $300 per door. This clearly is a safety defect since it is probable that up to six passengers would have to climb over seats to exit the vehicle in an emergency.
The plastic door handles broke from the inside compartment. The only way to exit the vehicle is by rolling down the windows, and lifting the handle from the outside. Dealer was aware of this problem, and stated because the part was plastic it broke. If the brakes get wet from either standing water or excessive rain, the abs brakes become extremely sensitive to pedal application. The brakes will lock up. The cause has not been determined at this time. Please provide details.
The lock actuator on the door broke and my wife was unable to open the door and get out of the vehicle. After discussing this issue with the service manager it was brought to my attention that this problem is not an isolated one but has occurred in many chevy surburbans. I believe that this type of problem is a safety issue in that someone could get trapped in the car.
I own a1997 chevy Suburban lt. We asked a local chevy dealer to fix the doors to close properly, which they claimed to do. I noticed that the door did not line up and they said they adjusted the strike plate. Evidently that means they used a sledge hammer. My wife was driving down the road and one of the locked doors opened up as she was driving down the road. Luckily my 4 year old son was in his carseat. It has happened twice. She could not reclose the door and so she tied it shut. I found that the door latch was still shut. I held the handle up and manually lifted the latch after which the door would close. Another saftey issue; while driving down the road the steering wheel jerks suddenly to the right. I live in a mountainous and occasional snow area. I worry that with the steering wheel jerking, and sometimes it has sent me towards the lane next to me, this could be a serious problem. I have also had the power steering pump replaced once after the shaft completly seperated from the pump while I was driving down a steep mountain with 7 boyscouts from a camping trip in the snow. Let me tell you if that had been my wife in the car she probably would have been down the side of the cliff. In 2 1/2 yrs. I have replaced the four wheel drive actuator, door handles, transmission, rear end seals and axle, front end, a/c everything, windshield wiper switch of some sort, brakes every 20,000 or so, they tell me the head gasket is bad, there is a whining sound I think is the fan clutch, and now it looks like its either the u joints or the limited slip clutches, hub or both. I do not feel that my wife and children are safe in this car. All lamb Chevrolet of prescott valley az has said is they warranty their vehicles to 36,000 miles. They offered to sell me one of their nice new tahoes. Which he claims they have improved. Oh yea the sales price is 42,000. On a 36,000 vehicle because I am upside down on the car they sold me 2 years ago.

My vehicle is equipped with power locks on all doors. The power locks have failed on all of the doors (passenger and rear doors). The problem seems worse in hot weather, however this past winter (2002), 3 out of the 5 locks did not work. I feel this is a safety risk to the occupants of the vehicle, especially during an emergency situation. I have spoken with several owners of the same vehicle who also have the same problem with their automatic locks. Please, do something about this situation. Thank you.
Door can not close properly. Consumer was driving when door came open. Contacted dealer. Mr. Mccarthy is a mediator for the better business bureau, a hearing was held in regards to complaint and the door latches were found to be unsafe, this problem happened with 3 out of 4 doors, mr. Mccarthy ordered vehicle off the road immediately.
Vehicle was made without a child safety lock. This defect enabled consumer's child to unlatch seatbelt/open rear driver's side door, and fall out. Child sustained minor injuries.
Door locks failed twice.
Door locks and latches are defective on all four doors. Owner notes door almost came open because ofthe problem. When locks are pulled up they are hard to push down. Possible design flaw.
Door latch failed causing door to swing open.
When opening the door the latch locks so that the door cannot be shut. Owner has to take a screw driver to flip the latch down in order to close the door. Dealer has seen vehicle.
To trigger the locking mechenisim on the driver's door consumer has to stick finger in the lock latch before entering or exiting the vehicle. Dealer has been contacted.
