This is in reference to complaint # 11327456 the address and the mph are incorrect. Please see form attached to this complaint # affected parts: steering, brakes, electrical, elec, stability control and speed control this site wouldn't let me check more than 3.
Started my vehicle and let it warm up. No issues. . After waiting 5 min I drove away from my house and within 1 minute of driving( could of been less), all of my dash lights flashed/glitched,and my gauge needles go all the way down,I lose accuracy of speed, fuel, temps, etc. My indicator( where it shows mileage) reset to "driver 1" . Same thing happens everytime, and its always random, except the last 2 days. I just purchased this vehicle used, last year and a carfax was done and I just did a VIN search and nothing states this vehicle was either recalled or was the problem originally fixed when there was a recall.
Driving along on the highway and the speedometer starts going crazy says I am going 120mph it still doing it auto nation in roswell GA wants $ 600 their is a recall but says my truck is too old but has the right mileage .
A few weeks ago I was traveling down hwy 60 in southwest missouri and the "reduced engine power" light came on. The vehicle immediately slowed to about 4-5 miles per hour and I was unable to accelerate. I crawled to the next exit where I barely made it up the incline and into a gas station. We checked the gas, oil, battery, etc. I turned off the vehicle and when I started it up again, it seemed fine. I continued home. The next day I took it to a mechanic who said that it all checked out perfectly and there was nothing wrong. This has happened 12-15 times in the last month and every time I take it to the mechanic, he tells me that the computer is not "throwing codes" and there is nothing wrong. This is not a figment of my imagination. This keeps happening. The most recent "episode" was last night. We took the boat down to the river to go gigging at night. When I went to pull the trailer up the boat ramp and park the vehicle, the "reduced engine power" light again came on and I could not pull up the hill. Every time I attempted it, the light came on and I actually went backwards towards the river!! my children were in the vehicle and I was scared we would be trapped it something further malfunctioned and we rolled back into the deep cold water!!! from what I have now researched gm is aware of this problem and I do not understand why a problem this potentially deadly has not been dealt with! I am not the first owner of this vehicle and have never had a problem like this. I am a single mother of three beautiful boys and I am scared to drive my car because of this. I cannot put them in a potentially deadly situation. So our only vehicle sits and waits in our driveway leaving me stranded a lot until gm can come up with a solution on their dime. This isn't fair that a problem is know and no one at gm will fix it. Please help fix this before someone dies!.
I was driving down the road all of a sudden the speedometer registered 120 mph, I pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the vehicle, the speedometer was still registering 50 mph. Since that time the speedometer registers various speeds, from 140 to 0 I am not sure what speed I am actually going, I can be parked with the speedometer on 140 or driving with the speedometer on 0.
I was driving on the highway when I glanced at my guages. The tachometer reading was below zero. Then suddenly my speedodometer started slowly falling from 65 to 70 mph to just below zero as well. Still driving. About 20 minutes later. The speededometer started to slowly rise. Finally it stayed steady at about 35 mph. This created a problem. Because I wasn't going 35mph on the highway. During this time, I tried not to increase or decrease my speed. I went with the flow of traffic. Because, obviously, it was a safe rate of speed at that time. Because the tachometer wasn't working too. The approximate calulation of my rate of speed. Could not be ascertained. "speed" is a significant threat to public safety. Whether it be the regular streets throughout your town or the interstate highway. Another reason to consider this a public safety issue is. Someone maybe driving faster than the speed rating of their tires. Because of instrument panel malfunction. The risk of serious tire issues have now increased. This is a direct safety issue. Through some research of my own. I found that alot of the effected vehicles. Started having this issue after 70000 to 80000 miles. Gm's attempt to rectify this safety hazzard is lame at most. 7 yrs 70. 000 miles. These numbers were picked so they could keep their costs at a minimum. We, the consumer, are being forced. To take it once again. From the big businesses that refuse to take responsibility. For the very dangerous issues of which they created! has anyone figured out how many SUV's have been or will be effected? how many of them are or will be on the road? also, once the instrument panel cluster gets replaced. The odometer & hour readings need to be reset. This opens the door for a new set of problems. Odometer fraud.
First problem is that the instrument cluster stops and starts working at random times not knowing how fast you?re going. Chevy said they were familiar with the problem but would only fix it up to 80,000 miles. Not sure what kind of recall dose that. Second problem is when I got a flat tire, I nor the auto roadside assistance man could get the spare tire down. The car stranded until I took the entire wheel off the car and to the repair shop to get fixed and brought it back to re-install it. The dealer has been the only place that can actually get it to unlatch and admits it a bad design. I?m always apprehensive about getting a flat and being stranded.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 50 mph during rainy weather, the vehicle accelerated abnormally and crashed into a concrete medium. The vehicle began to spin around and then reversed while the contact depressed the brake pedal the entire time. The vehicle then crashed into a second vehicle before finally crashing into a metal rail before stopping. The air bags did not deploy. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The driver of the vehicle sustained neck injuries and swelling to his collar bone. The passenger sustained injuries to her rib cage, neck and face. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop but was not repaired. The contact stated that the front and rear end of the vehicle sustained moderate damage as well as the rear driver side wheel and the spare tire. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
2004 chevy Tahoe speedometer is defective and reads inaccurately by at least 15 to 20 mph. Does not return to zero when stop, even after vehicle power is turned off. Begins working again and will soon thereafter malfunction as just described. This is inaccurately calculating mileage, and, when I spoke with service personnel at huffines Chevrolet, q Chevrolet and classic Chevrolet (all in the dallas/fort worth area), all acknowledged this as a known problem that gm will not fix after 80k miles. Although I'm inundated with junk email from gm, they never, ever provided me with any indication that this was an issue. National highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) should never, never allow this to occur. Please insist that gm provide full replacement, including all parts and labor, for such a serious and known safety defect.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe z71. I have about 89,000 miles. My speedometer started acting erratic about 3 weeks ago. Working sometimes and not sometimes. Sometimes it would look like it was sticking in the way it would rise in speed. Now it has stopped working all together. I bought this car used about 9 months ago. When I bought it, it already had over 70k miles on it. I have read on different forums and blogs that gm has sent a letter offering to fix or reimburse, but only if under 70k miles. How can gm put a cap on something like this?.
The entire instrument cluster failed including the speedometer and fuel gauge.
!st accurrence just over 36000 miles --speedometer would read faster by about 20 mph driv iving it has done this numerous time, s but I found if turning key on and off a few times it would be alright for a few weeks . Seemed worse in cold and damp weather. Now, at 60000 miles the speedometer will not correct itself and was stuck at 25 mph faster then was traveling ---- dealer wanted $500 to fix this. I saw where numerous people had the same problem. This should be fixed by the company as it was a safety problem. Thank you for your time .
I have a 2004 chevy Tahoe z71. The speedometer recently quit working. The mileage keeps accumulating but the speed does not show. I know of several other owners with the same problem. This would seem to be a huge safety concern. The chevy dealer tells me the fix is about 200 dollars and they must keep the car for up to a week to send the module back to factory. I can assume most people are like me and cannot do without a car for a week which makes this an issue of a lot of these models on the road without any idea how fast they are going. Is there any history of this on record or recalls. Thanks randy.
2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, speedometer registered incorrect speed and slowly stopped working. I called the Chevrolet dealer, and they knew exactly what was wrong, and told me it would cost $500. 00 to fix it. I asked them about recalls since my brother had the same vehicle and it was doing the same thing. They told me there were no recalls. After several weeks I decided to go ahead and have the repair done. I had it fixed last week and was charged $500. 00. Ak.
Speedometer is not functioning correctly in my 2004 chevy Tahoe.
Speedometer suddenly jumped up 20 mph. With car off, says its going 20 mph. 2004 chevy Tahoe. Very dangerous, almost caused an accident looking down and slamming on the brakes. Car only has 48000 miles.
Speedometer stopped working totally.
I have a 2004 chevy Tahoe and in November of 2006 the speedometer started acting odd. Sometimes it would be on a speed when I was sitting still other times it would be at zero whe I was driving and now it is stuck at zero. Apparently, this is not an isolated incident for this vehicle as I have seen numerous complaints about this problem with many other GMC vehicles in this model year. I currently have my truck in a shop to get this repaired but I would hope with the number of complaints that GMC would do the right thing and initiate a recall.
2004 chevy Tahoe-speedometer acting erratic. First notice problem while driving on the freeway doing 70 mph, then applied brakes to slow down and the speedometer went down to 30 mph. I came back to 70 mph, so I thought ,but traffic was passing me up like if they were doing 100 mph. In reality I was doing about 50 mph. Next day it was working fine, but now the speedometer is jerky. Reading chevy Tahoe forums a lot of people are having the same problems and after a few days of the jerky speedometer the speedometer completely goes out. This needs to be recalled.
: the contact stated while starting the vehicle it lurches forward six inches to one foot. This only occurs while the vehicle is parked. The dealer determined this was a common problem with this year, make, and mode,l but did not offer a remedy.
Whenever I try to accelerate the car does not respond. This is a safety issue, for example when I try to merge on to the freeway. Chevy stated that the car is performing as it should. I have driven other identical cars, that do not have the same problem. But they refuse to fix the safety issue. Ui.
