Stepped on gas pedal and it stuck causing acceleration. Eventually slowed down. Upon inspection by mechanic, it was found that a spring on gas pedal had become dislodged. One end of the spring is straight (like a pin) and it had stuck into the floor carpet, eventually releasing itself. This is a faulty design and very dangerous. Gm has been notified and the vehicle was inspected by Chevrolet dealer but they will not do anything about it. This could get someone killed.
