Clunk noise and feel in steering wheel became worse after about 2 months then took to the dealer it was the steering I-shaft part number 19153614 my 2005 Tahoe had 40331 miles at time of repair cost to me was 113. 88 I feel I should not be charged for this repair because it is a known problem to Chevrolet.

2 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2008

While the vehicle was still under factory warranty it was serviced at a gm dealership for rattling noise in the steering. They said they had to apply grease to the steering shaft because the grease shifted down. This identical noise started again and was brought back to same dealership around a year later. The factory warr. Is up but we have 3rd party ext warr. They changed the steering shaft and bearing this time and my deductible is 100. 00 dollars. I asked the shop why this was not done on the first visit and they told me the parts were not avail. At that time and about 1,500,000 of this type had the rattling problem until gm came out with this revised shaft and bearing to keep the grease in. This is a factory defect and should have been addressed and changed by gm.

Abnormal noise of rattling, crackling, and clucking in steering column when making left turn or slightly turning steering wheel to left also driving vehicle at 15 mph or higher speed knocking noise consistent in steering column. My vehicle was serviced twice at mileage 24,757, and in 2007 mileage 41,309 by the dealer and repaired with new lubrication kit was installed into the intermediate shaft at no cost to me due to warranty coverage. However, my 2005 Tahoe has had the continuing problem throughout my sole ownership. Current mileage is at 116,000, on going defects as such is a manufacture defect, I will have to repair again with out of pocket cost average from $125. 00 to $300. 00.
