22 problems related to equipment have been reported for the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
"takata recall" we just purchased this car from my husband's deceased mother's estate and it had a recall on the lighting inside and outside tail lights. The vehicle has 83 thousand miles on it and the vehicle rear lights are not working when I brake only one that is is the third light on top of car. Gm (Chevrolet) I live on a very limited income and due to disability as well. My income is 1330 a month. How can I get this fixed? they want to charge me for diagnostics, as I stated we fixed it once it seems to be that it may get hot and blows fuses and then I have no idea I have no tail lights this is very dangerous and someone could rear end me and kill themselves and or myself. Please help me in understanding are they responsible to fix their defects as they did it once when it was recalled and we also just bought this car. Paid about 5 thousand for it. Excellent condition. Other than the lighting system not working only on and off. I have not had an accident but I do not want to have a accident. I find it unfair that they dont want to fix the problem unless they are paid because apparently it is a problem that is and will recur. We have actually fixed the problem once but apparently something is wrong that we cannot secure the issue properly. Kindest regards carolyn otoole.
Gages cluster on dashboard stopped working. I know 8 people that have this issue on there vehicle. No speedometer, tach, battery, fuel and other gages went out. When you start vehicle, put it in drive and drive. Shut off and restart. Nothing this is a safety issue. Happened at 80k and then started working now doing it again at 149,000. Total safety issue since other chevy models have this issue and was recalled!!!!!.
Extended warranty fuel tank filler leak known issue with Chevrolet which affects other parts such fuel pump, fuel module, etc Chevrolet has been aware of this issue since 2007 and I just got a call from a senior advisor from chevy stating that the "replacement part" is not going to be in until April. I find this unacceptable since I am driving around with a gas leak. The sa first started off, well we understand you are complaining about the part being back ordered. No I am mad because if they sent out letters to consumers, don't you think you should have the part in to fix the issues with the Trailblazer? chevy is dragging its feet to fix its own warranty that it extended to consumers. The longer I drive around with this leak, the longer others parts such the fuel pump, fuel module, etc will fail and chevy should cover these parts also. How does chevy expect me to drive around for 5 months with a fuel leak?.
Tuning the key in the ignition, the car does not start and the key cannot be removed from the ignition. It is stuck in the on position, the wheel does turn but the shifter cannot be taken from the park position. Car is being towed today to aaa for assessment and repair. I found no recall but am concerned with the stuck ignition in the on position and the key not being removable.
The speedometer is no longer reporting the correct vehicle speed. I may indicate 50mph while the vehicle is actually going 20mph, but it is not the same each time the vehicle is driven. The is the same problem that has been widely reported on many other gm models.
Speedometer stopped working. Did research and this happens alot in this vehicle and year.
Put vehilcle in park and stayed in drive. Shut vehicle off and put on park however still in drive and now will not start. Since I work on vehicles I looked at transmission linkage and found cable came off transmission linkage. Plastic clip broken. Looked on line and found transmission shifter cable repair clip for $14. 99. Since it was special order I went to dealer and was told there is no repair kit and that they have plenty of shifter cables in stock $75. 00 went ahead and ordered aftermarket part special order 2 days and today 3 days later was told out of stock and none available til December. Coincidence or is this a common problem? I'm afraid someone will not know or realize vehicle still in drive when shifter moves to park and not moving shifter linkage at transmission.
I was driving in the left lane on interstate highway 290 (youngman highway) at about 65 m. P. H. When smoke began wafting from the area where the steering column meets the dashboard. I took immediate evasive action, pulled onto and off the shoulder onto the grass, shut the engine off, ran to the barrier fence and watched to see if vehicle was going to burst into flames. After calling aaa, about ten minutes had elapsed without further smoke so I assumed I could drive to the next exit ramp at colvin blvd. (about 1,000 feet away) and off to a wendy's parking lot where I waited for a aaa flatbed truck. My SUV was flatbed towed to my dealership, fuccillo Chevrolet on grand island, where the problem was diagnosed as a faulty ignition switch, code number c0379. Total cost of repair was$222. 66. It would be nice to be reimbursed for this expense. Though no visible fire was observed, the smoke was a clear sign of problem that was so hot it caused oxidation of material into visible smoke.
I was driving to go get pizza with my 15 year old granddaughter. Once at the pizza place I pulled into a parking space and proceeded to put my truck in park and went to turn off ignition switch and it wouldn't turn off. I became frightened because that was the 4th time that my car would not turn off. A nice man in the parking lot came over to try to assist me and he could not get it to turn off either. I was about to call 911 and I sat back in the drivers seat and the switch finally turned off. It stayed on 20 minutes before it cut off. Each time it has happened it has stayed on at least 10 minutes or longer. I have called the 1-800 number for Chevrolet each time this has happened and no one will help me. I am to the point where I am afraid to drive my truck but this is my only means of transportation. I understand that my vehicle has not been listed in the recall yet however, something is visiably wrong with my switch and I am requesting assistance with this. I fear for my safety driving my truck.
The car takes off as if it doesn't want to allow shift change. It automatically changes on it's on. Transmission starting to slip.
I was at a drive thru pharmacy when my gear shifter cable (broke) and was stuck in park. It would not move. I had to get towed to my mechanic's garage, luckily about 1 mile down the road. Prior to this happening, I had noticed the gear shifter very loose for atleast a year!! the mechanic told me there had been alot of people with the same issue on their Chevrolets. The Chevrolet parts dealer told my mechanic the same thing. There should be a recall on the defective gear shifter cable. I could have been at a major intersection when this happened. Luckily, I was in a parking lot.
The transmission shifter cable came off the lever connected to the transmission thus leaving me stuck in reverse during this recent event. I had to drive the car in reverse to park it safely out of the way of traffic. The problem resulted from a plastic bushing that connects the cable to the lever, see gm # 15785087. In my opinion this bushing was not designed to withstand the normal life of the car due to the degradation of the bushing which essentialy snapped in two pieces and allowed the cable to disloge from the transmission and leaving the driver stuck in whatever gear they happen to be in. Luckily the car was able to be turned off after safely being removed from traffic. I had to tie wrap cable back to lever to place in the proper gear ie. Park. Gm should have designed a more rigid linkage connection with a safety pin to prevent this dislodging. The other issue is that the console has to be removed to replace the cable thus leaving the average owner stuck in having to take the car to the dealer and incur the cost upwards of $300. 00 to replace it.
We own a 2003 chevy Trailblazer which keeps going into reduce power mode, I pulled the codes at various time and different parts, I replaced the crank, cam, and accelerator position sensors. I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator, fan clutch, starter, alternator, spark plugs and coil packs to avail. Gm knows about this issue and refuse to address this issue. What will it take to get this issue address, lawsuit and or death. Ashamed on you gm. This issue is an accident waiting to happen.
The speedometer has stopped working and I have seen this on a lot of chevys but the Trailblazer is not on the recall list. It should be!.
I have been smelling gasoline in and around my vehicle for about a year. One mechanic told us to replace the gas cap, which we did in November 2012. It didn't help. Now we are being told that the gas tank needs to be replaced which will cost hundreds of dollars. I am very concerned for the safety of my grandchildren that I pick up from school. .
My spedometer broke on my 2003 chevy Trailblazer. Sometimes it is parked & I am going 50 mph -- sometimes 70. . . . I haven't had it fixed yet - but has heard of several people having the same problem. I feel gm should do a recall -- this is a dangerous thing.
The instrument cluster on my 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer fails to register the actual readings for speed and/or rpms.
I have a 2003 chevy Trailblazer that I have been having problems with the a/c since the date of purchase. I have taken the vehicle back to the dealer and the continually advise me nothing is wrong with the a/c. The a/c blows hot all the time, for that matter the blower vents omit hot air continually. I have made every effort to have the problem fixed without any assistance. This seems to be an ongoing problem with the 2003 model.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 5 mph the vehicle began making a loud noise. The contact pulled over and noticed that the rear driver's side tire was flat. While attempting to remove the spare tire the hoist failed to crank to release the spare tire. The serial number for the crank was not visible. The mechanic stated that the wires for the hoist were crossed. The current and failure mileages were 48,000.
The instrument panel goes crazy. I never know what speed I am going . One day it will work and the next it does not.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle she smelled a foul odor which she described as mildew. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who installed a delayed blower. Approximately 2 years later the odor returned and the battery began to drain rapidly due to the delayed blower which continued to function when the vehicle was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a module within the delayed blower was replaced twice. The contact stated that a few months later, the blower stopped working. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to replace the module inside of the blower. Approximately 2 years later the contact stated that the wiring within the delayed blower burned out and it was replaced. The failure had become progressively worse over time. The failure mileage was 5,457 and the current mileage was 140,000.
The consumer stated that the on- star system was defective and indicated that there was no connection to a dispatcher. 8nlm.
