13 problems related to latches/locks/linkage have been reported for the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the driver side door lock malfunctioned and the driver was unable to open the door from the outside. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that a clip inside the door locking mechanism fractured. The clip was replaced and the failure was remedied. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 156,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While parked the contact attempted to unlock the front drivers side door but the door lock would not open. The front passengers side door was able to unlatch but would not close. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The contact used lubricant on the front passengers side door but the door would not latch. The vehicle was not repaired. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 05v494000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch) that may be related to the failure. The manufacturer stated the recall was only for the 2003 Trailblazer ext models and not the 2003 Trailblazer. The approximate failure mileage was unknown . Ds.
While changing lanes on the freeway, my tailgate window shattered on my 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext. There were no warning signs of this event. There were no chips in the glass, the road was smooth. Since the glass has shattered the tailgate lock mechanism is now malfunctioning as well.
The door locks have stopped working and the key fob. Doors will not lock or unlock.
Rear driver side door would not latch. No indication that door was opened. I have filed a complaint (odi 10335683) about the passenger door that I repaired previously. This was the exact issue for recall 05007. The vehicle was brought in spring 2006. Obviously g. M. S "fix" is not working. Luckily this time the vehicle was in my driveway.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt model. The rear hatch latch fails to lock or unlock due to corrosion. I found online that there is a recall covering certain GMC vehicles. The site I found listed the 2003 Chevrolet vehicle as part of this recall. The campaign # is 05v494000 and the gm recall # is 05v494000. The recall stated the following:certain sport utility vehicles have a rear side closure latch that may not latch or unlatch due to corrosion caused by road splash, such as water and road salt. These vehicles were originally sold in or currently registered in the following states: connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. Consequence summary: if the door is not latched properly and it goes unnoticed, it may open while the vehicle is in motion. If an unbelted occupant fell out of the vehicle, personal injuries could occur. Recall notes: gm recall no. 05077. I contacted Chevrolet 1-800-630-2438. I spoke with a representative there and gave him all my information. He informed me that he could not find any recalls on my vehicle. I gave him the campaign # listed on the website and he looked it up and found the recall and said that maine was not a state involved in the recall. I informed him that the recall I was viewing on line clearly listed maine as a covered state. He then said he noticed it. I gave him the gm recall # and he said that the recall only covers GMC envoy and Chevrolet Trailblazer ext models. It clearly is the same problem. I checked and the latch is corroded due to salt and water. My complaint is that this is the same safety issue as the other vehicles and should be covered on this recall. The only difference is the trim its lt as opposed to the ext.
My rear passenger door opened while I was driving. The car was recalled in 2006 to supposedly fix this problem. We brought it in the spring of 2006 as per the recall. If my 9 year old daughter was not buckled in she would have fallen out of the vehicle. The recall was 05007.
Raised rear lightgate heard a crunching sound. On inspection the plastic piece on the top of the lightgate was cracked & lifted up. It was a fairly warm day & I had washed the truck early in the day & it sat in the sun all day. Ice build up was not a possibility. Took the truck in for repair of this piece, bodyshop states that there are 2 bushings missing from the hinges where the rear glass pivots on the hinges. Dealer parts dept. Confirms that bushings should be there. Parts dept. Had conversation with gm customer service these hinges & replacement bushing are only services able when the rear liftgate glass gets replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The vehicle was repaired according to a recall, but the failure has recurred. The contact stated that the doors close and open intermittently. In addition, the latch does not lock properly on the rear passenger and driver's side doors, leaving them to remain unsecured. She placed her son in the child seat and closed the door, but it remained open. The contact had to push the door closed several times. Four months later, the failure occurred with the other door. The dealer and manufacturer stated that they could not assist. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 113,000 and current mileage was 120,000.
Three of the four door latching mechanisms had to be replaced in this truck. The doors would look like they closed but they would open as you turned a corner. This occurred twice when I had my kids in the truck, first on the passenger left side then a few months later the passenger right side. I am glad gm didn't screw up the seal belts too. This is dangerous.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. After the contact stopped at a stop sign, the rear passenger side door opened and would not shut. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and purchased a new rear door lock component. On two other occasions, the driver side and rear doors would not remain shut. The dealer stated that there were recalls available on the defects. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000 and current mileage was 350,000. Updated 07/29/08 updated 07/29/08.
