Was under vehicle and noticed a stress crack in the frame on the passenger side under the motor mount. This looks like it can be a potentially serious issue and looks as if it has been there for a while. The crack is approximately 6" long and on the very bottom of the frame directly below the engine mounting bracket.
My gas gauge reads empty after I fill up with gasoline.
My speedometer displays an extremely inaccurate reading, or doesnt work at all.
The fuel gauge was giving false reading saying empty when it was not or full when it was empty and sometimes in between. This cause the engine to stall when driving on a public road making it very hard to pull over and stop because the power steering and power brakes quit working. I have searched on this issue and it is a huge problem with Trailblazers.
With only 55,000 miles, the exhaust manifold cracked. Seeing all of the complaints online and talking to my mechanic, this seems to be a default part. Chevy should be recalling these. My mechanic had to order the part through the dealer and they had the replacement manifold in stock. Exhaust manifolds are not normally stock items unless there is a real high need to replace them. . . . . . .
Blower fan stays on constantly even when is cut off. Only way to cut off fan is to pull out module in fuse box under hood. :(.
Panel cluster failed with red blaring emergency light stays on and causes vehicle lights to stay on. Also causes vehicle not to shift properly. All dashboard component indicator fails which hazardous to safety of individual.
Love the vehicle except the fact all my gauges stick. . . . Gm had told me this has to be safety issue in order to be recalled. . . I'm pretty sure not knowing how fast I am going on the highway is a saftey issue. . . Especially with little children in the car. This is unacceptable. I refuse to pay for a defect that is happening in many gm vehicles. . . If I can find all the complaints I'm sure gm can as well. How do we get gm to fix these problems and try to keep customers????.
Speedometer jumps to different speeds . Whem you shut off the truck it will stay stuck 110mph, or when you restart the car it will just jump down a little 100mph. Other chevy models have had recalls on the same problem but not chevy Trailblazer? why.
There is a potential safety issue related to the spare tire winch of gm vehicles that have an underside mounted spare tire. I used my winch for the first time and found it difficult to lower the tire from the underside of the vehicle. Yes, I had to break out the owner's manual in order to figure out the secondary release! when the service station went to put it back up, they told me the winch was defective and needed to be replaced. I took it to the dealership and they agreed. I'm claiming that this is a common issue and a design flaw. Gm is saying it is "normal" wear & tear. I'm having a hard time swallowing this since it has only been used once. Now they are claiming "environmental" factors and rust, caused by salt in my state. They are pointing to some loophole in the manual to deny responsibility. Understand that I'm outside of the 3/36 warranty, but still believe the company should stand behind their product and take ownership for this flaw. If this area is prone to rust and has a history of failing (as indicated on my automotive forums), what is to keep the spare tire from flying off during operation of the vehicle. If this spare will not snug up to the underside of the body, it seems that hitting a bump could cause the tire to break free or one of the "rusted" components could cause it to drop expectantly. I have tried numerous times to get this resolved through my local dealer and gm's customer care division, but they refuse to take responsibility for a poor design.
I started my vehicle to leave a parking lot and as I put it in reverse, it made a very loud screeching noise. I applied the brake and immediately turned off the vehicle. I looked under the hood trying to see if there was anything noticeably wrong, nothing. I restarted my car again and put it in reverse and the screeching noise started again when I put the vehicle in reverse and it would not move. With the help of another person, we pushed it back then, put I it in drive and it did move forward and the noise stopped after awhile. I spoke with several people and I was informed that it was the transmission. I looked online, spoke with several mechanics, and they all informed me that it was a common problem for the Trailblazer that the sun shell failing. I also found several discussions regarding the transmission problems of the sun shell failing all with varying mileage. I have received several quotes and they all vary in range. I also called the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from and they denied any knowledge of the transmission failing. I was told it was because of my high mileage. They quoted the highest of everyone with $2868 for a replacement. If it is common knowledge among the mechanics not associated with the dealership, I don't understand why the dealership denied any knowledge of the problem. The amount of money paid for these vehicles, gm should acknowlede all problems of their product and fix the problems.
Two weeks ago we put new tires on my Trailblazer at 28,700 mi. We were leaving for a trip and took it to have the front end aligned to be sure the new tires wore properly. We did not go to our dealer as there was no time before the trip. Upon checking the car, they discovered both my front struts were leaking badly and they no longer gave a firm ride. We had no choice but to have them replace both struts at only 28,700 mi. The repair shop was quite surprised that both struts were bad. My Trailblazer is garaged, has extremely low mileage, is driven only on city streets or freeway and never carries any loads. Even though we were past the 36 mo. Portion of the warranty, the repair shop told us that they felt the struts should have lasted far longer than 28,700 mi. And that with the excellent care of my car, it was far too early for them to have to be replaced. I ck'd with some friends who had their cars for far longer than me and many more miles on it and they had never had any issue with struts. I decided to contact gm to file a complaint. They contacted me and the interviewer told me that she completely understood why I would be upset. However, today I was called and told that they would not help with any of the cost for replacement of the struts. My concern is for the safety of other people that own chevy vehicles with the same struts. We were told that we should not drive our car with the bad struts on the freeway because it was not safe. I want to file a formal complaint so that others can be made aware of the possible dangers of the struts failing at such an early mileage. I plan to contact whatever agencies necessary to make sure the public knows about the problem.
Trailblazer was parked in driveway on a 72 degree day and the rear windshield simply exploded.
Abs kicks in at low stopping speed between 5 to 10 mph.
With a full tank of gas the fuel gauge stoped working and now reads empty all the time. The check engine light comes on and off depending on how much fuel is in the tank. This Trailblazer had only 36,500 miles on it when this started. I beleave the dealer should pay for all the repairs as this is a safety hazard.
The bearings on the alternator are wearing and need to be replaced, the vehicle only has 29,000 miles and according to my mechanic they should not be worn this early and should be replaced as soon as possible; this is definately a safety issue and a faulty part that I should not have to pay to have replaced. The fuel level indicator has stopped working over 2. 5 years ago. I did receive a letter saying that the part may wear out prematurely and they are willing to pay 50% of the replacement but if it wears out prematurely then the part is faulty and I should not have to pay to replace the part. The backup light panel is bad, I tried to replace the bulb but the problem lies with the panel, fauilty part again.
I was at work on 8-18-2011 when CO workers told me that asked me if I had a black chevy Trailblazer because someone saw my rear window explode. I went outside and there was glass all over the ground outside and my window was broken in little pieces. I came home and searched the web for similar problems. I found this had happened to other people and there was a number to contact the manufacturers. I called them but they told me there aren't any open recalls pertaining to this type of problem.
This vehicle had been been parked in the driveway from 7:45 pm, (August 10, 2011). I was awakened at approx. 3:55 am on 8-10-2011 by hearing a muffled boom. At 4:00 am (Aug. 11, 2011) I heard a loud bang type noise. I immediately got up and went to investigate. I went outside and found my 2004 Trailblazer (ext) on fire from the engine bay and just beginning to flame inside the vehicle's passenger compartment at the dashboard. . It only took minutes before the vehicle was fully involved. The fire began in the engine bay. The fire marshall report is still pending and I was informed it would take 6 to 8 weeks before it was available. Approx. Two to three months prior, I took the vehicle to a repair garage to fix the low beam headlights (they had failed and changing the bulbs was no help. It turned out that it was a failed relay, which was replaced. It was a couple of weeks later that I had to replace the vehicle's battery as it had gone dead and would not take a charge. The old battery was about three years old. There were no other battery/headlight issues after these repairs. No tools or other parts were dropped into the engine bay, or left in the bay. I was an aircraft mechanic and old habits of keeping rack of my tools never die and all tools used were accounted for. The roads were dry where it was driven there was no rain at the house all night. I reported this to Chevrolet that day. As a result of the fire, the eaves of the house over the garage caught fire, my wife, son and myself had minor carbon monoxide poisoning, my work truck was damaged by the heat of the fire, so I cannot work (self employed) until I get a replacement (no rental company will let me use a truck to work from as I need to carry large quantities of chlorine in my pressure cleaning business. There have been no other problems of this kind before with this vehicle.
Gas gauge shows empty, then full then empty again check engine light always on, also cable holding spare tire, rusted while driving tire hanging.
The passenger side exhaust manifold cracks. Once manifold cracks exhaust fumes make there way into the cabin of the car. Also the extra heat causes wires to melt and could be a possible fire hazard. After researching the failed part I have realized it is an extremely common problem with the Trailblazers and gm has done nothing to correct this failing part.
Temperature gauge reads higher than it should and gas gauge fluctuates.
Stepper motors in the instrument panel all went out in three separate gauges. Speedometer, alternator and oil pressure gauges. Items failed and gauges became erratic and then pointed either straight down or pegged left or right. Giving incorrect or no reading.
Fuel gauge shows random indication of fuel level. After filling the gas tank to full, the fuel gauge falls to empty and triggers the fuel light and dings. Later on it will show a random indication of fuel level.
Pretty said to know that Chevrolet makes all this makes all this money and wont reopen their recalls when they didn't replace parts on vehicles to begin with maybe next time should have went foreign instead of american for all these years.
Driving on the interstate I noticed a pop and upon further review of the vehicle, I found that the third tail light assembly has broken free from the clips that hold it on to the vehicle. It is still attached by 1 bolt but this is very dangerous if the assembly breaks free. I have seen several complaints on this particular vehicle that could cause severe damage to oncoming traffic and potentially cause an accident. This needs to be addressed by the manufacturer immediately.
First - relay resistor module for manual heating/hvac. . . Certain blower settings do not work in 2006 Trailblazer. This same problem is a recall for 2004 chevy silverados. Will this be a recall for the Trailblazer as well? second - gas guages have failed and do not work. I know of 3 others that have the same problem, is there a recall on this?.
Speedometer goes erratic. When idling at stop speedometer is sitting at approx 90 to 110 mph and when moving from a stop continues to the 6:00 position.
I feel that even if you have had a recall issue once and the situation continues to happen then it needs to be fixed until the problem is solved I have contact gm several time and nothing has been done to ratify my problem with the windsheild wipers and the 4 wheel drive and several other recall issues this is sad I say we need a class action law suit I am not one to to take legal action but for people that have this kind of money and to not fix their problem that they put out on the roads for us to drive safely is shameful.
I started the car first thing in the morning and noticed as I backed out of the garage that my speedometer wasn't working. As I drove down my street, I watched it, and it never moved. The needle was not pointing straight down, but was significantly below 0. Later the same day, it began working again, though the needle movement was jerky. Two days later, it stopped again and has not worked since. I contacted gm and they said there isn't an active recall on this problem, even though they have recalled practically every other SUV they made that year for a problem with the instrument panel. This is more than an annoyance, it's a safety hazard, and I think gm should step up and repair the problem, especially since a cursory google search turns up many, many other Trailblazer owners with the same issue. I would appreciate any help the NHTSA could offer.
Driving home on the interstate the speedometer on our 2004 chevy Trailblazer suddenly started to climb and then decend done to well below -0 mph and stayed there even though we were traveling at 75 mph. The speedometer is currently frozen at about 20 mhp making it impossible to determine how fast we're traveling. Dealer quoted repairs at appx $800.
Gas gauge jumps around. . . Especially when fuel is low. Sometimes at it's lowest, it will show half a tank. Now that my wife drives this SUV with my 7-month old son, it is particularly worrisome.
While driving, the speedometer will rise and fall erratically. I have been told by my mechanic that the instrument cluster is bad and needs to be replaced. Upon internet research, I have found this is a common problem with gm truck and SUV models in the years 2003-2006. Trailblazer is the only model that gm has not covered in a recall for this part malfunction. How can it be safe to drive and not know what speed I am traveling at? I have an appointment with Chevrolet tomorrow. They will not fix the problem until their technician can diagnosis it. . . And charge me an extra $99. 00, even though the problem has all ready been diagnosed by certified, experienced mechanic. At the time this first occurred, the speedometer registered 115 mph; my husband estimates he was driving 25-30mph.
Fuel guage defect; reads empty when the vehicle has gas in it. Also reads a higher level of gas than what is actually in it. Every morning when starting the vehcile the fuel guauge light comes on even when the vehicle has gas. I never know how much gas is in the vehicle, I am worried it will shut off when driving down the road. This began at 80000 miles, and has been constant ever since.
My instrument cluster malfunctions on a regular basis. The speedometer tachometer and gas gauge all go crazy and register information that is no where near accurate. The speedometer says 60 when sitting still, and gas gauge needle is at 5:00 when there is a half tank. If you start the vehicle and quickly turn it off enough times, the gauges will eventually get back to normal for a few miles,. Then go back to strange numbers and process has to begin all over again, don't know if the temp gauge is accurate or not.
About 2 weeks ago the speedometer in my 2005 chevy Trailblazer stopped working properly. The only thing out of the ordinary was the nearly 16 inces of snow that we got in the chicagoland area. At first it would not move, then it read that I was going 30 mph while the car was in park. Now it is stuck past 120 mph. I am unemployed, still trying to make car payments on this car and do not have the $500 + that chevy has told me they would charge me to fix this problem that I am sure they are well aware of with this make, model and year SUV.
Misleading information on the speedometer of the Trailblazer. The has stopped registering the correct speed during travel. While stopped at a red light the speedometer was reading 20 mph. This can be dangerous for drivers because they do not know what speed they are currently traveling. While traveling at 45 mph the speedometer was reading 75 mph.
After returning home from shopping, my wife and her friend pulled into our driveway and she placed our Trailblazer in park. There was a loud sound she said sounded like an explosion and the rear lift hatch window shattered sending glass flying. At the time of the glass shattering the outside temperature was close to 30 degrees. The rear defroster was not on. I came home from work and we cleaned all the glass from the driveway and the interior of the vehicle. There was no explanation as to why this happened. I contacted the insurance company and the window was fixed for a cost of $754. 70 by safelite glass repair. I looked on the internet and did a search of similar incidents and found quite a few. I contacted gm by e-mail and told them what happened. Gm thanked me for the information but did not offer any replacement or reimbursement. Fortunately no one was injured and our granddaughter was not in her car seat at the time. This could have been very dangerous if my wife would have been opening the lift gate when the glass shattered. Gm said this appeared to be an isolated incident and I offered to send them links to other identical complaints that I found. I would like the NHTSA to please look into this as this does not seem to be an isolated incident and there was no warning of this failure. The glass was in excellent condition prior to this happening and the vehicle has never been in an accident and is in excellent condition.
First the left side of my temperature control lighting went out, a week later I got a steady service engine soon light, it then went out after a few minutes, it then stayed steady for a period of 2 days, then went out. Then 3 days later my indicator light above my 4-wheel drive control went out, I attempted to change the fuse, then got a service four-wheel drive warning.
The oil level indicator in the dash panel is no longer functioning. A call to the dealer where car was purchased confirms that this is part of an "instrument cluster" that also controls the speedometer, and that it will probably malfunction as well.
2003 chev Trailblazer. Mileage is 95,000, speedometer shows misleading info, first started reading about 20 mph over actual speed, over the past month has increased, now at full stop reads about 100 mph, then when vehicle is moving the needle is pointed straight down, past 120 mph.
The speedometer on my instrument panel cluster malfunctioned. Problems included the needle sticking in one place, not moving down when decelerating, and even spinning to the "6 o'clock" position below the gague. I called Chevrolet to find out information and they were not able to offer me any help or reimbursement assistance.
Dashboard gauges on our 2004 Trailblazer have been failing one by one. No gauges except the speedometer have been operable for many months. Now, on Friday 11/11/11, the speedometer stopped working! this is a serious problem. I believe it must be caused by the same issues as the identical well-publicized problems on other Trailblazers. In addition, some of the dashboard lights (seatbelt light, etc. ) ramain on almost all the time. Chevrolet should be reponsible for immediate repairs at no cost to us, the owner. Thank you.
Instrument panel cluster stopped working--inclusive the speedometer and all accessory gauges (tachometer, oil pressure, temperature, charging system).
Not sure what to file this under, so I put it under unknown and other. About 4 months ago my service engine soon light came on. It stayed on for a few days then went off, a few days later it was back on, then a few days later went off, then it came on for a longer period of time and do the same thing, eventually it stayed on. Took it to the chevy dealership where I bought it and they said the gas tank had a crack in it and needed to be replaced. Said it was probably from the gas nozzle hitting the tank when filling it up. Don't see how that is possible, when it is only me or my husband filling it up & how hard would you have to hit it for it to crack? had it replaced the next month. Now the service engine soon light is doing the same thing. Haven't taken it back in yet.
Speedometer was reading 90mph on a trip and cars were passing me, when I stopped the speedometer read 35mph standing still. It did this for about 3 days, then went back to normal. The other day coming home from a trip it seemed like it was acting up again, but my husband was driving, he thought it was acting up too. It is back to normal, haven't done anything about it.
When I first purchased this vehicle I thought I had a great SUV. Little did I know that within the first month of owning it did I make a huge mistake. I am a single mother of 2 kids. I checked out the crash ratings and they were great!! I liked everything about my tb. Looking back, after the 4th problem within that first month. I should have ran away screaming from it, as I do now daily. The lights flicker when you drive at night. The headlights constantly go out. The check gauges light is constantly coming on. The oil pressure gauge drops for no apparent reason. The tach goes crazy. The "bell" for the lights (when you have the keys out and the lights are still on, or when you have the keys in and the drivers door open) works when it wants to. The battery guage works when it feels like it. The gas guage hasn't had a problem lately. I am wondering. . . Doesn't all of that constitue as a safety problem?? I have had the lights looked at and am told there isn't anything that can be done. . Really?? I am going to have to have the guages looked at now and from what I see it will cost about $600-$800. Where other chevy vehicles have had this covered under a recall. There are many other problems I've had, the O2 sensor, temp guage, other lighing issues that I have taken care of but this is getting to be a bit much. I see many others have had this problem. It can't be from normal wear on the vehicle. Please do something about this before someones family really gets hurt, if they haven't already.
The speedometer does not reset itself when the vehicle slows or stops. Insted, it resumes from a higher speed. For example, if you are travelling at 45mph and stop at a stoplight the spoodometer may drop to 40mph upon stopping. Then when you resume travelling it starts from 40 instead of 0 so the speedometer shows you are travelling 60 when you are going 20, 70 when you are going 30 etc. When you stop again it will come to rest at an even higher speed, until eventually the needle shows over 120 mph when the vehicle is sitting still! I have done some investigation on line and this appears to be a fairly common complaint from fellow owners. General motors apparently dopes not consider this a safety issue and as such will not pay for the repair which is $500 or more. I'm not sur how not knowing you rate of travel is not a safety concern for them, but it certainly is to me.
My 2005 chevy Trailblazer speedometer stopped working. This started as an intermittant problem and has progressivly gottan worse. There seems to be no corolation between outside temps and when it works. When it does work it displays inaccurate speeds. This seems to be a consistant problem in 2005 Trailblazers based a an internet search for the same problem.
Our 2005 chevy Trailblazer's speedometer just quit working. We can be sitting at a complete stop and the speedometer will read 50mph. It will randomly change and later will even drop below the zero mark. We have no idea how fast we are traveling when this occurs. Yesterday, while driving from OH to in, I had to guess how fast I was goin on the freeway. The speedometet started our reading 45mph, so I estimated that I had to travel at 110 mph to go 65mph. The problem became worse when I noticed that my speedometer was jumping from one speed to the next, not gradually climbing like it should have been. This problem is a random occurance. I never know when to excpect it. Obviously, there are serious consequences that can ensue. Speeding tickets, endangering others' as well as our own lives by driving too fast or too slow, or causing accidents in general. Nothing has been done to correct the problem since the car is out of warranty and I am underemployed and we cannot afford to replace the instrument cluster at this time.
I have had several problems with my power windows going up and down and then just not working at all. I smell smoke sometimes but can't locate the cause of the smoke. I have also had problems with the electrical connection to the radio, which also works sometimes but the majority of the time it does not work. I have had this problem for a long time now and need a resolution before my SUV catches fire. I also have problems with the drivers side power door lock which works intermittantly-whenever it pleases. I recently started having problems with my rear wiper blade-turn it on and it moves a little then stops. My headlights dim up and down while driving. . . I have replaced the alternator and the battery and still don't have enought power for some reason-dealerships want to charge a lot of money just to diagnose when it appears that this is obviously a defect in the electrical system of the SUV.
I own a 2002 Trailblazer which the transmission has failed twice since I have owned it. The first repair was September 2010 amount was $ 2000 and went out again in August 2011 costing me $1,500 the second time. This has been an ongoing problems with the Trailblazer and they have not yet chosen to recall this problem. Hopefully no one has gotten hurt or will get hurt. I was almost hit from the rear the day my truck just stopped in the middle of the road no warnings or signs. This is a serious problem and what will it take for gm to recall this I guess they hope the problem will just go away. Gm knows this is a problem if they changed the sunshell material on the newer models ones that are more heat resistant why make the part more sturdy if there is no problems or safety concerns. I am now trying to get rid of my truck and will never purchase another gm automobile.
Gas gauge does not work. Reads empty even after vehicle is filled with fuel. Check engine is always on because of gauge problem.
I bought my2005 Trailblazer new in 2006. The rear driver side door quit working and I had to use a bungee cord to keep it shut until I got it in to a mechanic to look at. I was told that somehow water got inside the door and damaged the components mechanic was able to get the door to shut but warned me if it was opened again it may not shut so it has been duct-taped up so my children won't inadvertently use it. I noticed rust on the top of the vehicle in front of the moon roof very early on. The rear passenger door has to be opened gently from the back portion of the handle as it appears it is going to break off in the near future. The rear hatch and also the glass portion of the hatch back has now stopped working. It was brought in for an oil change and I asked the mechanic to check it out he was able to get it unlocked a couple times by pressing the auto unlock on the key repeatedly (more than 3 times he said) I have not been as fortunate and have not been able to use the rear quarters now because of this.
Faulty speedometer and gas gauge on 2004 cheverolet Trailblazer.
Speedometer malfunctioning, mosst times reads 100-110 mph standing still or while moving.
The gas gauge on my 2006 chevy Trailblazer read incorrectly. The problem just started happening. The car was being driven like normal and no work had been done on the car. The problem is still occuring because I don't have the $800 dollars I was told it would take to fix the problem other probem was noticed in December of 2010. The heater stopped working. Prior to the heater stop working the blower stopped working on 5 then stopped working on 4 then it just completly stopped working. I pulled the blower motor resistor out of the carr and noticed that the connector to the blower motor resistor pack was melted to the connector. I removed some of the melted plastic and tried the heater again and one of the wires was glowing orange when the heater was running. I replaced the blower motor resistor and melted connector. On April 22, 2011 speed 5 on the blower stopped working. I pulled the blower motor resistor on April 27 2010. I noticed the same problem was starting to occur again. The two of the wires leading into the blower motor resistor were melted together. This car is not diven very far, putting less than 5,000 miles a year on it. Is the melting wires a problem that I should worry about? is this car safe to let my wife drive with the kids in the back?.
2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. Speedometer sticks and remains at last known speed or stops working completely. Only way to resolve is to turn the vehicle completely off and restart.
1. Normal driving. 2. The rpm gage works irratically and is never accurate. 3. We could not find a replacement part and it has not been fixed.
Product defect.
Im having ploblems with my speedometer and it works when it wants to work and most of the time I never know how fast im going do to this ploblem. I can't afford to be having these ploblems with my vehicle.
1. Normal driving, 2. The cd player will not eject the cd, 3. Attempted to get it out and then researched for how to's and found it was impossible to fix without getting a new stereo.
The speedomoter quit working and over the next year all the gages have stoped working and I have been told the insturment panal needs to be replaced. I feel this is a safty issue that needs to be recalled as do alot of other people. I contacted gm and have received no help.
First occurrence I smelt burning plastic and saw some smoke coming from the master window switches on the drivers door. The switches failed, windows stopped working and when getting them replaced the inside sound proofing was black and burnt. The second time I didn't smell smoke but the windows stopped working and the inside of the door is burnt. The switches failed and the drivers door window stopped going down. The switch needs to be replaced.
Our car was parked, the entire back hatch was open (not just the glass window) and I was unloading bags and boxes from car. The rear window exploded into tiny pieces of glass that rained down on me. Getting imbedded in my head, back and arms. Neighbors came running the sound was so loud. The car had not been involved in any kind of collision and there was nothing that hit the window. I had been to the vechicle several times since the door had been opened because I had lots of items to unload. Now I have been noticing many other Trailblazers that have missing components from the rear window leading me to think that their windows have had to be replaced also. Had we been driving that day when this happened, with the force in which the glass flew, I am sure that the children in the back seat would have been hit with the glass.
The speedometer quit reading correctly. At some times it would read 100 mph when doing 30 mph. It then worsened to the point where it is at now. The speedometer does not work at all. The tachometer has malfunctioned the same way as well. This has to be a safety issue since the driver has no way of truly knowing how fast they are driving. I have contacted Chevrolet about this issue, and they refuse to see that thousands of these vehicles are having the same problem. There should be a safety recall now.
Spedometer, tachometer not working and have not been for over 1 yr. Other gauges work when they want to. Will cost too much to take to dealer to get fixed and have heard that there are lots of other vehicles same yr having same issues. They should do a recall on these to fix.
Speedometer fails to function intermittently. May read 0 mph while driving at freeway speeds, or 100+ mph while at a dead stop. May read normally at other times.
I am failing compliant case of fire hazard on the blower resistor, have complained to the chevy garage about this they have known the problem was there since 2004 and never reported this, the wires burnt filling the Trailblazer hazard smoke causing my grandchildren to cough and nauseated, along with my wife and me. They will not cover to repair this . I am seeking help on this matter. Also there is a bad short somewhere causing a the battery to drain which may cause a fire . . . . . . . Not sure of what this is. I have contacted state representative [xxx] the congressman. Please contact me a. S. A. P if any more details needed . My wife uses this for work and I am very concern on the fire which may occur I am an auto mechanic for 40 + years and I know there is a server problem of a defect in this vech. My speedometer in my 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer stopped working, all the other instruments work. This is not safe. I did some research and found that a number of complaints have been filed on this very issue. Gm should replace this part. It appears they knew there was a problem.
The speedometer, fuel gauge & oil pressure gauge do not work. I've look this problem up and there are thousands of complaints regarding these issues - why hasn't this been recalled!!!.
I ran out of gas on expressway on way home from work while gauge showed 1/4 tank. This happened again months later with tank showing just under 1/4 tank. Gauge around the time of first incident started bouncing around off and on at any reading while SUV was running. It would go from empty to 1/2 a tank and bounce around back and forth eventually stopping at a random amount. The gauge would go to empty when it was full until it was driven enough that I was down to around 3/4 of a tank then it would give the correct reading until guessing around 1/4 of a tank when the incidents happened with me running out of gas. A few months later the gauge completely quit working and has yet to work since then. I started researching online about the gauge and found multiple incidents with same year and make and many people stating they paid over $700 to have repairs done and multiple people stating they had it fail again. Since reading those remarks I have yet to have it repaired and have had to keep track of my mileage so that I don't run out of fuel again.
In 2008, one day I started my vehicle and noticed the oil gauge indicator did not register. That day I continued driving without the gauge operating. Later that week I took it a mechanic, who instructed me to take it to the dealer. He suspected that it was the instrument panel. I did not take it to the dealer, because it was not major. However, in later months the tachometer failed. In 2010 I did some research on the instrument panel on the chevy Trailblazer and found many accounts of failure by others. I also want to mention that the gas gauge has failed on occasion. Currently, my tachometer and oil gauge does not work. I along with other drivers want Chevrolet to take responsibility for the failure of their product, which they know does not operate as it should.
Second incident dashboard: service brakes, antilock abs warning light. Says to seek service. Abs malfunctioning any time it goes below minus 10 degrees for the past two years. Assume that the abs system will not work, and it is a safety issue. Malfunctioning abs. The first event we paid to have service bulletin check grounding of wheel and body sensors. The next year it went away after a day of the car not being used. Why doesn't the govenrment get Chevrolet to repair permanently the malfunction before any accidents occur.
3rd brake light aplique.
My 2004 Trailblazer spare tire winch would not crank my tire all the way down I was on the side of the expressway and could not remove my tire so that I could change it.
Wench holding spare tire on 2002 chevy Trailblazer was stuck and would not lower the tire. Having a flat tire is bad enough but being told that they would have to cut and destroy the wench mechanism in order get the spare to put it on in place of the flat one was not good news. I told aaa to proceed and cut the cable and mechanism so they could change my flat tire. I found this is not under warranty and it cost $137. 00 to replace the wench. This happened in August 2006/ in October, my wife had a flat and guess what the wench would not lower the spare and again the mechanism had to be replaced. I put my spare on my wife's 2004 chevy Trailblazer so she could continue her trip to iowa. Her wench was replaced at a cost $143. 00. Obviously this is a problem with chevy Trailblazers as it happened with my 2002 and my wife's 2004. There is never a mention in the owner's manual about any maintenance on the wench. To find the problem when you have a flat is not the right time tom discover the wench doesn't work. I filed a complaint with general motors on Monday of this week and was told that all complaints are reviewed by supervisors. I simply replied that it was highly unlikely that I would ever hear from anyone at gm about this problem.
1) spare tire release defective and cannot lower spare. Found problem with spare release by belle tire when rotating and buying new tires at 58,000 miles. 2) no spare available. My child in the car stranded on a road endangers my family. 3) requested gm assistance center for assistance with no answer for two months. Was finally directed to dealer for estimate. Gm dealer indicated that the problem is common on the gm Trailblazers, and in need of repair. They did not know if the replacement part was redesigned. Gm assistance center could not answer if part improved , and would not offer any compensation for replacement of another potentially bad part that could leave a motorist in an unsafe situation .
When I pressed the accelerator pedal to the floor all the way, the floor mat trapped it wide open. This in return caused the vehicle to speed out of control. This is the third incident with this type of vehicle between my fiance and I that this has happened to. Because I was aware of this problem I just kicked the floor mat and the accelerator pedal was released. Very scary feeling if you don't know what to do.
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the floor mat trapped the accelerator pedal causing the vehicle to speed out of control. The vehicle crashed into a fence post and a power line guide wire. Seat belts were in use however minor injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for repairs. The manufacturer has been alerted. Updated 03/28/06. Updated 8/14/2006 -.
The spare tire release cable on my 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer became twisted and could have broke releasing the spare tire as the vehicle drove down the road. The spare tire had never been removed from compartment and so it would appear to be a manufacturer defect.
This is a bad truck.
My vehicle has a squeek sound in it. The dealer has replaced everything possible under the vehicle and is now at a loss as to what the problem could be. I am wondering what my next step is to do. This is an ongoing problem since I purchased this vehicle. It has been to the shop a dozen times or so for this.
While driving at 70 mph, the consumer pulled to the right to avoid hitting another motorist. The consumer over corrected the vehicle, which resulted in the consumer losing control of the truck. The truck went through 2 ditches and a service road before stopping. The truck went airborne. The driver sustained back injuries and the passenger sustained injuries to his/her side and knees. The console between the seats came loose and hit the passenger in the side. The vehicle was totaled.
The jack was installed underneath the passenger's rear seat. The consumer went to unscrew the jack when the pin from the jack shot up and hit the consumer in the left eye. The pin caused permanent eye damage. Manufacturer was not contacted at the time of this call.
Almost weekly we have to have acorns removed from blower in dashboard because squirrels get up inside dashboard from underneath the car and stash the nuts in the dashboard and the nuts get all caught in the fan and cause it to shake the entire dash board,. . . . Was told when I called to make appointment for blower motor problems the service department told me the problem was probably acorns in the dash and they were going to have to charge me for the service call and there was nothing they could do about the squirrel and acorns getting into the dashboard. In fact they were nuts and when I talked to chevy about fixing the problem I was laughed at and they told me to go to local hardware store and buy screen and stuff it in hole. . . . . I don't even know where they are getting into the car and I don't think I should have to pay for someone to fix this issue because it is a manufactures defect in the design.
Purchased a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer on 2/28/03 and within a few weeks the paint wore off the bottom of the right and left rear doors. Had the vehicle repainted. Within a few days it wore off again. Chevrolet will not repaint the affected areas stating it is an environmental issue. The dealer states they believe it is a manufacturer defect in design. They also stated I would need to put running boards and molded mud flaps on to prevent the problem from getting worse. They are however not willing to put them on at their expense. If this was an environmental issue than all vehicles would have the same problem not just me. In speaking to Chevrolet customer assistance I was told that they are aware of this problem with the Trailblazers however they are not willing to do anything about it.
It takes 3 times longer for the rear heating system to blow "warm" air then the system in the front. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times and still have the same problem. The last time I was told that "engineering" was notified of the situation.
This vehicle is equipped with "memory" mirrors that are supposed to return to the last stored position when the remote keyless entry is used. Instead they drive to an extreme position, make a loud clicking noise, and stay that way. Many times I've been trying to make a lane change and found the mirrors pointing toward the pavement. The manufacturer is aware of the defect and has fixed it in the 2003 model. However, they refuse to fix my vehicle. This problem exists in all 2002 Trailblazers and GMC envoys. There is an internal service bulletin at Chevrolet that explains it.
Not your ordinary safety defect but an unsafe condition nonetheless. I live in arizona, a place that tends to get a little warm. When the vehicle heat soaks in the sun the remote keyless entry fails. The dealer has replaced the main receiver board and the ( 2 ) entry transmitters with no effect other than modifying the failure characteristics. The ( 2 ) key transmitters also do not operate the entry system in an identical manner. One will operate all entry system functions, the other ( transmitter #2 ) will not. This will create a severe problem if immediate access is required to the vehicle and you cannot rely on the system to have the vehicle unlocked when you get to it. My brother, also the owner of a 2002 Trailblazer, is complaining of the same problem.
Entire dashboard continues to "blank out" third time/ all needles not working/cannot tell how fast traveling/which gear/how much fuel/engine temp/ now airbag warning lamp stays on.
Operation of remote control to unlock vehicle causes outside mirrors to move from preset position. This creates a hazardous situation, especially is view from inside mirror is restricted. Dealer says no fix is known.
2003 Chevrolet trail blazer extended with plastic piece that flew of vehicle. Customer states that it was replaced once under warranty but that was a year and half ago* the consumer stated on the back of the window, on top of the rear hatch there was a piece of plastic that held the middle brake light. The plastic piece flew off the vehicle.
The interior and exterior light control failed. The switch did not function which caused the lights not to illuminate or go off.
