1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2024

The contact owned a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact discovered that the driver's side door, the driver's side seat, and the ceiling had caught on fire and was burned; the windshield was also cracked. The vehicle was unoccupied during the fire. A fire department report was filed the following day and the fire department inspected the vehicle and determined that the wiring was hot to the touch and could have possibly caused the fire; the vehicle was deemed totaled. The local dealer was not contacted. A police report was not filed. The vehicle remained at the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

Two items: item 1. Transmission switched to neutral by itself traveling at 65 mph. At about 5-6 seconds after the incident, transmission resumed with no further problem. This has happened 3 times. First time was mid 2022. Second and third times happened in late 2022. Appeared to be an intermittent problem. Took to dealership. It happened to a mechanic who drove the vehicle. Dealership thought they fixed the problem. A dealership mechanic, while addressing item number 2 below in 3rd week of April 2023, experienced the motor going into neutral. They had replaced the ignition switch to possibly fix item #2, and were test driving the car, when during the test drives, the motor went into neutral by itself two separate test drives. Item 2. While driving at highway speeds on a freeway in mid February 2023, the engine stopped (speedometer and rpm gauges went to zero). The whole dashboard went black. Power steering was lost. Was lucky to be able to pull over to side of road and stop. Turning ignition key off and on did not restart the car. Took ignition key out, replaced the ignition key, and the car started right up and we were able to continue our journey. This has happened 3 times total so far since February 2023. It has happened at random times. The dealership has not seen any computer feedback to indicate what is wrong for item 1 or item 2 here. So now, there is a new ignition switch, and we are hoping item 2 will not happen on a freeway, or on a crowded road, or anywhere!. I feel fortunate we had a way to pull off to the side of the road. If I was in a middle lane, I don’t know what could have happened. It could have been a pileup accident.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2022

The airbag light on the dash keeps coming off and on randomly. Stays on for a period of time or goes off after a couple seconds. Also for electrical, I was driving down hwy and the vehicle died and turned back on within 5 seconds. Had to jiggle battery cables for it to come back on. I had two small children in the vehicle and I don’t feel it’s safe to drive any longer.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2022

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the electrical plug was damaged by the previous dealer who performed maintenance work on the vehicle. The contact also stated no warning lights were operable on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2021

It happened 2 yrs ago in may. My kids and I were waiting in the vehicle and it cut off all of a sudden. My boyfriend checked it out and wasn’t sure what the problem was. The vehicle got towed. Mechanic said it was a bad ecm. Whomever sold me the vehicle had an arcadia ecm. The mechanic from the dealership I took it to said it’s on back order. 6 months later he said there’s nothing they can do for my vehicle. So it stayed in my yard for so long. We bought a used ecm from a used auto part. Today my boyfriend had to go on youtube just to figure out what’s wrong. He was under the hood almost the whole day and now it’s fixed. The only problem is the check engine light is on.

7 Electrical System problem

I keep having to get the air conditioning fixed. I had all of the electrical work done and replaced and a few months later it went back out. I replaced the condensor. I had more freon added and it still blows out warm air. This is the 3rd time that I have had the air to not work. Very frustrating! when the car is in motion, it still does not work.

Me and my wife own a 2010 Traverse and 2 days ago the engine just shut off while driving down the highway and she was almost hit several times in the few seconds it took to turn the hazzard lights on, im not understanding why all these complaints about engine issues are being submitted but no actions ive been a life long gm owner and this is a turning me towards looking elsewhere my wife could have been killed or my 3 children had they been in the car at the time this needs to be addressed before someone dies due to poor craftsmanship by a good car manufacturer please investigate this.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2019

It's drivable just I noticed the interior lights like dashboard radio go dim occasionally after driving for a while maybe take a half hour to an hour for the lights to go regular and if I have the radio at high volume while driving and I decrease speed the volume lowers itself just a concern that it maybe an electrical issue and my service airbag light is on but no recalls for it.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

The biggest issue is intermittently going into "low engine" mode, warning blinks for only a second then the car will not go more than 10 miles an hour. This is quite dangerous to me, my family, and other drivers- imagine this happening on the freeway? does this issue need to result in a death before it is looked into by the company? the car will not shift out of gears- happens intermittently with no warning signs whatsoever. The issue happens when I go above 40 mph, the the rpms goes to 9+off the charts and I cannot go into the next gear. Since it happens only randomly mechanics have a hard time finding issue since it does not always do this for them. Our last visit suggested to replace the transmission, but at a price that is more than the value of the car, that is hard to stomach. Lots of complaints of this issue and considering the 2009 recall, my two cents is the 2010 model most obviously has similar manufacturing issues and a deeper investigation needs to take place. Other issues, car lurches/jerks when put into drive from park. Please back your company and in good faith take care of your customers as some of us work hard for our money, this should not be the result of something anyone takes pride in!.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

The check engine light has been on for two years in my Traverse and my local mechanic doesn't know why. For about the same amount of time, when filling the tank we have to turn all electronics off and then after the fill we have to pump the gas pedal and coax it into starting. Again, local mechanic doesn't know what to do that won't cost a fortune, so advised to continue driving if what we do works. For the last month or so the stabilitrak warning light has come on periodically and then the reduced engine power light also comes on. This happens when it is really cold. At first nothing else happened, but the last three times we did lose power. I went down to 40mph while driving on the interstate and then at 21 below last night we couldn't go over 10-15 mph. After turning the car off for a while it normally re-sets which it did last night and we finally made it home. This engine power reduction and stabilitrak issue happens while driving. The check engine light is always on when the car is on.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

It stop running while driving and keys get stuck in the ignition multiple times . Accelerates itself or fails to pick up the speed on the highway. I had many fixed and they go right in the same problem.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2018

Door locks unlock/lock and then the car seems to go into neutral and the rpm goes to about 7,000. This has killed the engine twice. Gm has assigned a case number 8-423-8930914. Tcm, catalytic converter and neutral switch had been replaced and no change. Happens at various speeds - 75, 55,40,8mph and stopped. This has happened at least 30 times in the 34 days that we have owned it. It has been into the dealership four times.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2018

Alarm sounds for no apparent reason. No one attempt to get into vehicle. Happens several times weeks. Also hood latch light on dash comes and goes.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2017

My check engine light appeared this evening in my 2010 Traverse as well as service stabilitrack and traction control. As I accelerated my fuel level indicator went down and when I hit the brakes it would shoot up to full. I am one of many to deal with the issue with specifically a chevy Traverse.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

I bought this Traverse used with only 7,000 miles. After about a year, the radio and screen would not turn off after turning the car off and opening the door. It would remain on even after turning the ignition on and off or opening the drivers door several times. The front passenger window does not go down using the driver side controls, despite multiple attempts to fix it. I have learned to live with the issues when recently addition problems have appeared. For some reason it feels like I am driving with the emergency brake engaged or pulling a heavy trailer. Most of the time I have to press harder on the gas just to make the vehicle go. As a result, the gas mileage has dropped significantly. Also, suddenly the air conditioner for the driver blows only warm air while all the other vents blow cold. There is a constant clicking sound behind the dash and I am about to replace a second actuator. Finally, there is a loud noise from the engine like it is still running after it is turned off and the key is out of the ignition. I have to turn the ignition on and off again for it to stop. Even then, the engine fan remains on, which it never did before. All these started just as it was about to hit 80,000 miles.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

Gas tank does accurately show how much gas I have left. The fuel gauge constantly fluctuates. I was driving and my mile range showed I had 54 miles worth of gas left. I made a stop and the car was idling and when I got back in the car it showed I had 89 miles worth of gas left. When I got to my destination I got the low fuel warning message. I have watched my fuel gauge and mile range go up incrementally while in park. This issue is the same issue as a recall with later models and it can cause a terrible accident if my car stalls or shuts off because there was not as much gas in the car as the gauge states. Similar recall below with same exact issues. Recall subject : inaccurate fuel gauge reading report receipt date: Apr 30, 2014 NHTSA campaign number: 14v223000 component(s): electrical system , fuel system, gasoline potential number of units affected: 51,640 manufacturer: general motors llc.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2016

I have an issue with the electrical system when the vehicle gets wet from rain or any kind of moisture I lose all warning chimes, blinkers on occasion, and the lights will flicker at times. Defective timing chains in a vehicle that was manufactured in 2009 where an extended warranty was issued for vehicles having faulty timing chains but since my vehicle was sold as a 2010 I don't qualify for the special extended warranty. While driving around a bend with the defective timing chain I have encountered a loss of power on the highway which almost caused a wreck while my kids were in the car on a trip.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving 5 mph and after clicking the driver's seat belt in place, the seat belt icon remained illuminated for at least ten minutes before it went off. The dealer (autonation Chevrolet, 3707 west colonial drive, orlando, FL 32808) informed the contact that the mileage was too high on the vehicle to make any repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

On the way to longview texas, we were driving on the loop in palestine when the stabilitrak light came on, the check engine light came on, and park assist light came on. The vehicle lost power quickly and we had to cross two lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. I am pregnant and my 3 year old was in the car. Vehicle was towed, I had to pay for a rental car. The bacon Chevrolet in palestine charged me $150 to run diagnostics and give me an oil change since that was due up. They fixed three recalls that were due on my vehicle I had owned for 1. 5 yrs, then none of the lights came back on. Again on may 12th, yesterday, my vehicle stabilitrac light came on, check engine light came on, and the vehicle rpm's would go to about 3,000 only driving 40 mph. I was able to make it home and parked the car. My husband came out to check on it and the stabilitrak light had gone off but check engine light is still on. I called local dealership tom light chevy and was told "there have been no issues with this", they must not get the internet there. This has been a huge problem with multiple owners of both the Traverse and the equinox (my sister has one that has the same issue) from the 2009 all the way to 2013 model from what I have seen. I want to know why there has been no recall and why we are paying to run diagnostics or to fix things when the lights come on again and tell us the issue is something else?! gm needs to do a recall or they are going to lose many customers with the way it is being handled. If these lights come on again soon, this will be three times in six months! I am looking at trading this vehicle in and telling everyone I know to stay away from gm if this is handled improperly.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2015

Me & my family were driving on the highway, doing 65 mph, & suddenly the chime in my vehicle goes off, & in the display window it reads service traction control, service stabilitrak & park assist off. Also the engine light & I believe the stabilitrak light come on. Then the vehicle just slows down & when I try to push the gas to go, it will not go over 20 mph. I put my hazard lights on & luckily I was just a few minutes from home. The next day I take my vehicle back to greg may Honda where I purchased it, they put it on that machine & they said I would have to take it to a chevy dealership. That same day I take it & they tell me it's the throttle body. So I drive my vehicle home & try to come up with the money to make the repair & I take my vehicle to my personnel mechanic on Feb 27, 2015, they replace the throttle body for $521. 79 (I do have receipt). 3 months later on may 23, 2015 the same problem happened again while I was out of town. 3 months after that on Aug 7, 2015 it did it. And again on sept 1, 2015. I purchased this vehicle used on Nov 29, 2014, I only had it 3 months when it began to mess up on me. Each time it happened I am either on a busy city street or on the highway. I have 5 children in my vehicle & this is extremely dangerous for my family.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

2010 Traverse. Displayed showed traction control off, service stabilitrac, engine power reduced. The car suddenly dropped to 10mph. I see these problems all over and it seems as if my VIN isn't covered. This could have caused serious harm to my family and others. Could have caused a major accident.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

Wife was driving the kids to school this morning on the highway and all of a sudden the displayed showed traction control off, service stabilitrac, engine power reduced. The car suddenly dropped to 25mph. I see these problems all over and it seems as if my VIN isn't covered. This could have caused serious harm to my family and others. This is not the only issue, I also have a complaint about the steering problems.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

Chevy Traverse 2010 with 74k miles. Driving vehicle on highway during morning traffic. Vehicle check engine light came on, service stabilitrak warning, traction control off warning, and reduced engine power warning. Vehicle suddenly reduced engine power from 65mph to 25mph. Pulled vehicle over and shut down engine. Turned vehicle back on and check engine light remained on and vehicle would not go past 25mph. Had vehicle towed to dealership service department. Codes were p0221, p0121, and p2176. Repairs done at dealership for faulty throttle position sensor. Not covered under warranty. Parts $270. 82, labor $322. 50, after taxes total was $614. 99, prior to this incident it had occured on two other occassions; however the dealership service department was unable to duplicate the problem until this incident occured giving them the codes for the throttle position sensor. After reading post online it appears that my vehicle isn't the only one that has had this issue. Strongly recommend a recall be issued due to safety concerns since reduction of power engine can potentially result in a vehicle getting rear ended /hit from behind due to the sudden loss of power.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

While at a stop sign our 2010 Traverse shut off. It powered down everything, it would start up again but would shut down several times again. My son was in the passenger seat and noticed when he pressed down on a certain spot on the passenger side floor the car shut off. We have our car at the Chevrolet place now and they were very skeptical until my son placed his foot on the spot and the car shut down right in front of them. They will be looking at the car Monday 10/13/14 to see what the problem is. This car in no longer under warranty, I would think this is Chevrolet problem with the Traverse. (?).

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving on an incline, the transmission would shift from drive to reverse independently. Also, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road and towed to the dealer. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure on 3 separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to two additional independent mechanics. However, the technicians were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 41,000. Pam.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

Dash lamp backlighting goes dim intermittently. Dealer could not duplicate. No repair performed. Also complained about a one-time incident where, when entering a dark garage from sunlight, headlights did not come on. No action taken.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

July 1st 2014: I was backing out of a parking stall at work and heard 3 dings, looked at my dash, saw the traction control off light flash, and then the car powered down. I could not get it to restart and called for a tow. After a few days in the shop I got my car back and all seemed fine. They cleared some "codes". August 23rd 2014: I went grocery shopping - went to start my car and guess what happened again. Same as above, called for a tow. A few days later I got my car back. They cleared some more "codes". August 28th 2014: I had my car home for less than 24 hours and it happened again. As you can probably guess - I got it towed and it is currently being worked on. I'm so happy I'm making car payments on a car that I don't even get to drive. My husband has a 1997 Ford f150 with over 215k miles - it starts everyday. My car has 67k miles. I guess the most irritating thing is that there are tons of complaints about this and nothing is being done in the form of a recall. That is pathetic!! you are losing loyal customers. You are screwing the middle class families that purchase your vehicles. Do you think any of the major shareholders and ceo's are driving chevy's??? maybe if there BMW's or Volvo's didn't start. . . Oh wait gm doesn't make those, so they probably work just fine. This is a huge safety issue. Someone is going to die from this. . . Someone with a conscience at gm do something!!!!!!.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

Air bag warning light for passenger air bag came on. We received a recall notice about this issue and took the vehicle in to the dealer. They completed the required repair for under tyhe recall but that did not correct the problem. Dealer advised of additinal fees to diagnose the issue. We contacted gm and received authorization for the dealer to conduct a diagnosis of the problem. The result concluded the "sdm" had failed. The daler could not tell us if the recalled connector could have caused the failure. We were required top pay $300 to fix this safety issue that we feel should have been covered under the recall. Essentially, to make the vehicle safe to operate and correct a problem identified by recall it cost us $300.
