36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 25 mph. The stabilitrac warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was not available.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2016

In January 2016, my vehicle started having stability track issues. It got so bad I had the car sit up for a month then called a mechanic out to diagnosis the car. They sent me to the chevy dealership and they fixed something within the steering, but that did not stop my stabilitrak from malfunctioning. While driving the stabilitrak light turns on and says it needs servicing. Then it makes the engine slow down and it starts stalling so we have to pull over and turn the car off and turn it back on for it to do the same thing again within minutes. If the cruise control is on it turns it off starts to stall and puts my family and I in danger, I just thank god we've been able to alleviate major accidents. It's been one minor accident but because we were already going slow it didn't affect either car, so we let it go especially because our vehicle was at fault not the people behind us.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

Timing belt issues and power steering pump leak and issues needing replaced.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving 25 mph and approaching a red light, the brake pedal traveled to the floor and failed to stop the vehicle. As a result, the contact's vehicle rear ended another vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure. In addition, the contact stated that when the vehicle was parked on incline, it would roll backwards when the gear shifter was placed in drive. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 90,622.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

The car just completely stopped. No warning no lights no oil light no service engine. Just quit going down the road at 60mph with my children in the car. Now I am being told it is the motor. I have serviced the car I should have and treated it very well. There is not one reason a 2011 should just quit. I also had a issues with traction control in the dead of winter the car would flash traction control off engine will lose speed service stablitrack and the car would drop from 65mph right to 25mph in 5 seconds flat which was extremely dangerous any time of year not just winter. Get those 2011 Chevrolet Traverses off the road.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer because of a grinding noise emerging from the engine every time a turn was made. The technician diagnosed that the power steering unit was faulty and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,300. Pam.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

Engine overheated, reduced engine power came on and car shut down. Had to have it towed. Water pump had to be replaced, car is only 4 years old. Doesn't make sense.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2015

Car became very sluggish speed dropped down to 40mph the check engine light came on followed by two messages "traction control off" and "service stabilitrak" car barely moved after that. I pulled onto the shoulder of the road turned the car off, attempted to turn it back on the car wouldn't start after 3 mins the car started and I was able to make it home however the check engine light is still on and the error messages are still being displayed. I googled the problem apparently it's very common and a recall need to be issued.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2015

I was driving to work and luckily had already gotten off the freeway, driving aprox. 35mph the vehicle started to loose speed, a couple of msgs were popping up "stabilitrac off" "service stability control" "reduced engine power". The speed dropped down to about 5 mph, I had to pull over in order for the vehicles behind me to pass me. I put the vehicle on park and while idling, it started vibrating. I turned it off and then turn it back on. After this it seemed to be doing good. , enough for me to get to work.

45 Power Train problem

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

Daughter was driving, with kids in car. 6:45pm 1/25/2015. Traction control warning light came on and acceleration dropped instantly. She pulled over and turned off vehicle. Restarted and still could not get past 45mph. Pulled over again and turned off for 5 minutes. When pulled back onto highway was able to proceed normally, edmunds forum and chevytraverse forums stated this has happened repeatedly.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2015

Stabilitrak warning light engine losing power down to 20 mph. Went online this is an on going problem with many gm cars and should be fixed at the cost of the manufacturer.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

I was driving down the expressway going 70 miles an hour and my car all of a sudden went into safe mode and dropped to 10 miles an hour in a matter of seconds. I came very close to being rear ended by the car behind me and I had to swerve off the road into loose gravel and almost lost control of my car. I took the car to hank graff Chevrolet where I purchased it and they said the throttle body had went out along with the rack and pinion. I was told that it was not covered under warranty and I would have to pay $2500. 00. I called the detroit zone office and chris told me that everything would be covered under warranty except for the alignment. I then received a call from the service writer a few days later and was told that gm would not cover it. I talked to the zone office again and asked why wouldn't this be covered, it is a safety item and other Traverses have had recalls for the throttle body. I was told sorry mine was not one of them and I would have to pay. I feel that you need to know about this as it can cause some major accidents or even deaths if this happens to someone else. I was very lucky that this did not result in a serious accident. My car has only 69000 miles on it, why would these parts fail at such a low mileage. The car has never been in any accidents and there has never been any previous repairs done on this vehicle. Thank you.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

I was entering onto the freeway when my stabilitrack turned off by itself and my engine power was reduced. I was very nearly rear-ended as my car couldn't safely accelerate (accelerate at all really) as I was coming onto the freeway. A search on problems similar to this appears very prevalent within the chevy line of vehicles, especially the Traverse. This is a very serious issue and was very unsafe where it occurred. It almost caused. It's very disappointing to see how many people are experiencing this same issue and chevy hasn't issued any kind of recall to try and fix it.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I was driving home from work one evening. I just came off of the highway, then there was chimes coming from the 2011 chevy Traverse. Then on the dash read traction control off stability control off service traction control service stability control engine power reduced. I went form 40 mph to 20mph in less than a second. Contacted the dealership was told to stop driving immediately and have it towed to them. I get a call the next morning regarding the Traverse and an estimate of $230. 00 for a diagnostic and cleaning the throttle. Not even a month later it happened again right before I was about to enter a highway, I called the dealership again and they told me to have it towed and they will perform another diagnostic and give me another estimate for the exact same problem. They called back later that day with another estimate of over $500. 00. I told them I was not paying another cent to repair the exact same problem that I brought the truck in for the first time. He gave me some story about it could be 1001 problems that causes this problem and I told him that is the purpose of a diagnostic to find out what the problem is the first time. Long story short I did not pay the $500. 00 to fix my Traverse a second time for a repeat problem. The worker made it seem like he did me a favor for not charging me. Thank god I was not onb a highway when this happened or that I did not have my children with me. Chevy needs to fix this problem ASAP before a very bad accident happens and they will be sued.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

Wife was on the highway when the stabilitrack turned off and the engine went into a safe mode dropping her speed instantly. Luckly, she was in traffic and not going full highway speed or else she would have been a major accident hurting many people involved. . Read more...

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2014

Have had two incidents where the stability track has come on and had to pull over and turn vehicle off wait 10 minutes and restart and finally it goes off. The last incident was I was driving the light comes on saying engine power reducing and it drops speed down to where I have to pull over not to get hit. I pull over turn the truck off and it starts but reduces power again and turns itself off this happens about three times before I give up. I then have to call a tow truck when they arrive and tries to start it it does start now. I have been having this vehicle for 6 months.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

Traction control turned off, stabilitrak trak turned off and then it said they needed service, immediately after it then started down shifting and quickly slowing itself down. It is a real hazzard on icy roads and on the interstate in traffic when the vehicle quickly slows itself down. Many posts on the internet with this problem repeatedly occurring with multiple repair attempts at dealerships. I'm starting on my 2nd trip to the dealership. This is a definite safety issue when the car takes control and slows itself down. By shutting off the car it will reset the system and then it will work properly for a while. But this problem keeps reoccurring after it has been driven for a while.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

I was driving the truck on the main street when the truck just turned off, everything shut down even the radio. . . Checked the ignition and the key was still on, luckly when the car stopped the cars behind me stopped. I was then able to turn the key again, and the truck turned on. . . This has happened one other time but don't remember the date exactly. . . I also had the water pump replaced after being told by the dealer that it was ok. . . I am looking to get refunded for that repair. . . Bulletin no. 13079.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

This vehicle and many other general motors cars like it have been on many post and forums on the internet at least in the hundreds. I have purchase this vehicle used and therefore the date of the incidents are recent. I would describe this a design problem. If the vehicle is stopped on a slight incline and the transmission is in drive and you then take your foot off the brake pedal in order to proceed (as you would do when stopped at a traffic light), the car will roll backwards until the gas pedal is depressed enough to overcome the incline. This could be a danger if a pedestrian is walking behind your vehicle or you could roll back into a vehicle behind you. If you are on an incline (facing downhill) in reverse gear, the car will roll forward until the gas pedal is depressed enough to overcome the incline. This requires the driver to step on the brake so as not to roll with one foot and depress the gas pedal with the other so as not to roll. The Chevrolet dealer ship describes this as normal and is due to the 6 speed transmission and the standards for fuel economy. I was told their is no cure for this such as raising the idle speed for the engine, reprogramming the ecm (control module or other fix. General motors does offer a feature on some models which is a hill hold assist so it must be a concern to many customers. I feel this could be a potential safety problem and is widely known although I am not sure how many complaints NHTSA has received. Thank you in advance.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2014

It has to do with power to the engine being reduced. It has happened to me three times. Each time, I received three error messages ("traction control off", "service traction control", "service stabilitrak"), each time power reduced to my engine, and each time I paid substantial sums to the dealer to have it fixed, but each time it happened again. The first time I paid dealer #1 about $150 (if I recall correctly) to have them clean carbon from a sensor on the throttle body (which, coincidentally, I've had several problems caused by "carbon", according to the dealer #1). The second time, same thing, but paid only about $45 (to dealer #2 because I was out of town). The third time, I paid $600 for a completely new throttle body, including all of such sensors, from dealer #1. I am not confident that it is any safer now than it was before, since the track record is so poor (neither of the prior fixes solved the problem). Two of the three times (time #1 in January 2014, and just now for #3 in January 2015), I was on the highway at a high rate of speed, and fortunately the cars behind me were able to swerve and avoid rear-ending me at the last minute.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

Multiple times without warning, traction control off light turns on followed by service stabilization system and engine power reduced to 10 %. This happened while going 60 mph on a highway with a tractor trailer behind me, I suddenly went down to 20mph and had to swerve off the road. I was nearly hit by the truck as it passed me. Very dangerous situation that multiple Traverse owners have complained about. When will this be a recall? only after someone is killed or seriously hurt! dealer replaced the throttle body at a cost of nearly $500, a 3 year old car should not be having these issues, gm should be paying for the fix!.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2013

Vehicle intermittently loses power steering. So far this only has occurred at low speed. I have had it to the dealer 4 times and am going again this week. They have replaced ps pump and rack and belts. Problem still persists.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2012

I was driving on a state highway with nowhere to pull safely off the road when the throttle body failed. This failure caused the engine control computer to set the engine to "reduced power mode" where I could not drive the car past 20 mph with the engine barely running. I had to drive the vehicle for about 1/2 mile in this condition before I could get the car off the road. This happened on a dark winding stretch of road where traffic normally moves at around 45 mph so there was a significant potential for a rear end collision with a car speeding up behind me.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2012

While stopped and positioned facing uphill, the vehicle, when placed in drive, will roll downhill unless the accelerator is pressed. While stopped and positioned facing downhill, the vehicle, when placed in reverse, will roll downhill unless the accelerator is pressed. The rolling is not limited to inches or a couple of feet. The rolling was stopped by applying the brake after rolling over 10 feet. The 2011 Traverse is an all wheel drive with automatic transmission.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2012

Purchased 2011 Traverse on Monday, by Tuesday evening the traction control and the stabilitrak service soon codes were showing. The present mileage is 440 and this started around 350 miles on odometer. Also, while backing out of driveway on incline put car in drive and let off brake began pressing gas, the car continued to roll backwards until I pressed the brake and got on the gas at the same time.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2011

My chevy Traverse rolls back when stopped at a stop sign on a hill before applying the gas, when you attempt to take off, you really have to rev up the engine or leave your foot on the brake while applying the gas or it will roll back. This happens on any incline no matter size. The dealer stated this is how the car is designed. What manufacturer would design something unsafe like that? I fear for my safety in the snow and ice. My second incident envolved backing out of my garage, I backed approx 4 ft and then had to go over a 3" speed bump, but my car wouldn't continue to go backwards, until I reved up to 2000 rpms. Then if finally made it over the 3" hump. They say this is normal for the 6 speed transmission I have because of the "green' environment changes made to give it more fuel economy. Green environment over saftey what is our government thinking, if this is really the truth. I am now concerned I will not be able to keep my car in my garage, when the snow and ice fall as I won't be able to rev it that high or I will wreck my vehicle into the side of my gargage. I would like for gm to make this right and if not and I have a wreck they pay when my insurance goes up due to their poor design!! I do love the style and room in my SUV. That's probably what I was sold on as well as the color. However, the room in the vehicles means nothing, when I'm afraid I am going to crash into someone behind me. This is absolutley an unsafe vehicle. Gm needs to do something about it.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the vehicle rolled backward and forward on an incline with the brakes engaged. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who noticed the failure and stated that there was no repair available. They vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 27,154.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

While in the drive position on a hill at a stop sign or traffic signal, I removed my foot from the brake. The vehicle began to roll back almost hitting the vehicle behind me. It startled me and almost hit the car behind. In the second incident, my wife was pulling back from parking spot which has a slight incline (ground level in front is a bit lower than that in the back). She removed her foot from the brake after trying to park out with the gear 'r', the vehicle now began to roll forward almost hitting a little stone. My wife was terrified. We further tested the vehicle on various hills/inclines both in drive and reverse and it continued to roll in the opposite direction of the engaged gear. Apparently, this is a characteristic of the automatic transmission on this vehicle, and it does not have "hill-hold" or "hill assist". However, since this family SUV carries is being driven by mothers, and this might cause the serious safety issue. I saw there are a lot of complains of the same case, this issue should be brought up and Chevrolet should do some action on this.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

The Traverse was parked in the lot of the local grocery store, when started and placed in reverse it backed up just fine, however putting it in drive it broncoed up and would only go 30 miles per hour. This has happened 3 times . Now the power steering unit whines, the seats in the back do not recline well and the middle seat belt in the middle seat locks and I am unable to secure my 2 year old in his carseat. I am not pleased at all with the 2011 Traverse, I should have stuck to my first thoughts and bought the suburbon that I know. The Traverse is the worst vehicle I have ever owned, while it was being repaired at the dealership, they offered me another one to drive. . . . I laughed, I went and rented a yukon. Now when I go out of town I rent a vehicle my $40,000. 00 Traverse sit in the driveway as a lawn ornament. Chevrolet in florida got me real good, now they state I am upside down in this vehicle and am not able to trade without a big down payment. Funny they sell me a lemon and I can't even make lemonade with it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

When stopped on any type of grade from approximately 2% or greater, with transmission in drive, the vehicle will roll backwards when moving the right foot from depressing the foot brake to the accelerator in preparation to continue in the forward direction. When the vehicle was taken to the dealership for service reference this complaint, we were advised that this is common in the newer four and six cylinder travers and malibu and that they are still functioning as designed. I feel this is a safety issue even though it may not result in reportable crashes or injuries, the number of incidents related to this issue could be in the hundreds, yet due to most damage not being of a reportable nature it could be years before enough people report this and Chevrolet takes notice. Thank you for your time and consideration reference this issue. Fyi, your system did not recognize my listed VIN, but I copied it straight from my VIN plate.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated the vehicle lost power while shifting into third and fourth gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that indicated the failure was located in the transmission module. The dealer replaced the transmission module, but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to lose power while shifting into third and fourth gear, and the stability control light illuminated. The VIN information was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated the transmissions was equipped with six speeds and was designed to lose speed. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 9,081.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicles speed decreased to approximately 40 mph independently while the check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the throttle body sensor needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was tuned up and the mechanic stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. Mf.
