The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving approximately 55 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the timing chain was stretched and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine while attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. The VIN was not available.
Timing chain. Vehicle has service stabilization system and traction control messages come up on display. Vehicle very sluggish and will say "reduce power" on display. Driving down road at 55 mph and car goes completely limp. Have to pull over to side of busy road with wife and kids in car and have to come to complete stop, no power to wheels. Loud noise from engine compartment. Vehicle was driving down the road.
