1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became inoperable. The contact stated that while attempting to make a turn, the contact heard a loud clanking sound coming from the steering wheel. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power steering module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2023

Steering wheel randomly gets tight and difficult to turn. Eventually gets to a point where it won't turn. This doesn't occur all the time but randomly. No warning lights go on. Took to mechanic. Didn't happen to them when tested. But they flushed steering fluid and refilled. Taking the car back home. Again steering wheel got tight and difficult to turn. Got to a point where you couldn't turn again.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2023

The steering pump is faulty and the car only has 56,00o miles on it. I have read other people’s same issue on the internet. It is extremely dangerous because you cannot control the steering on the car and you could possibly injure yourself or someone else. 04/08/2023.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2022

The high pressure power steering lines in this vehicle are leaking due the proximity of the power steering lines to the coolant lines. Over time they rub against each other and eventually fail resulting in a loss of power steering fluid and a loss of power steering. Gm has known about this since technical service bulletin 13-02-32-001e was issued in December 2017, but has failed to notify the customer. This is a safety issue that gm needs to take care of.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

I was driving down the road when suddenly I could not turn my wheel and then the car completely shutoff while in motion. I was on a city street. Going straight. I was able to put on my hazards and then restarted the car. The dealership ran diagnostic tests and test drove it and could not replicate the problem and found nothing the matter with it. The car was purchased new and has less than 40,000 miles on it. This is a major safety hazard. Thankfully no one was driving right behind me or I would have been hit.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2017

While driving my 2017 Chevrolet Traverse at interstate speeds, the vehicle, without warning, shut down. When I say shut down, I mean shut off completely. This was a complete loss of all power to the car. The engine shut off, the lights (internal and external) shut off, there was no power steering, the brakes where difficult to push down, etc. As I am now coasting down the interstate with no power to the car I put it in neutral and turned on my flashers. With no power steering and brakes that are stiff, I somehow was able to slowly force the car to the side of the interstate and get it to stop. I tried to restart the vehicle and it would not start. I put it in park and sat there for a few minutes before trying again. Once I tried, the vehicle started and I was able to drive home without further incident. The morning after this incident, I started up my Traverse and noticed that the fuel gauge is showing empty, but the car had a half of a tank when I got home last night. There is something serious going on with this Traverse and Chevrolet vehicles in general. This is the 2nd different vehicle that I have owned that has shut down while driving down the road. The 1st car was a 2016 Chevrolet impala.

7 Steering problem

As I was driving on a city street the steering became very hard and difficult.
