37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2024

I purchased this vehicle in 2022 of October after about a year. I started noticing the car beginning to jerk back. Also, I noticed that the shift the handle when I would put it into park. It would not stay in park. It kept giving me a beeping noise. It kept slipping. At the time it wasn’t doing is it as much but lately I’ve noticed that it’s been happening more frequently so I took it into a mechanic to have it checked and they said it is a defect on the transmission. When I searched it up under NHTSA website I seen that there was multiple defects for this 2018 chevy Traverse.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

The vehicle will not shut off and vehicle information screen states shift to park. When this happens we have 2 options. 1st to sit and wait for the vehicle to turn off(takes over an hour on average), 2nd disconnect the negative battery connection. The vehicle shuts down nearly instantly. Then reconnect the battery before being able to use the vehicle again.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted into park(p); however, the “shift to park” message was displayed. The contact was unable to turn off the vehicle and left the vehicle running until the battery died. The vehicle needed to be jumpstarted the next day. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to technical service bulletin: pit5616 (vehicle displays shift to park message on dic when in park); however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2024

Third instance of failure on this vehicle. Vehicle does not recognize that gear selector is in park. "shift to park" warning is displayed when shift selector is firmly in park.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2024

After I purchased the vehicle in 2021 I noticed there was a shuddering feeling when accelerating at speeds below 40mph. I found the service bulletin and the dealership flushed the transmission fluid and reprogrammed the transmission. Issue seemed to be resolved, but on 11/4/24 I was pulling my car out of a parking lot after being parked 4 hours and when shifting from park to drive the car lurched forward and made a loud clunking sound. There were no lights on so I drove onto the highway and shortly after the check engine light came on and I could not accelerate above 50 mph. I limped the car to a nearby dealership and they indicated that the transmission was shot and needed to be rebuilt or replaced. It is currently in the shop waiting to be rebuilt. The total cost is around $5,500. Between both transmission incidents I also had an issue with the shift to park and service stabilitrak warning lights. That was fixed before warranty expired, but I am now out of warranty and need to pay out of pocket. Called Chevrolet corporate and was told they'd look into offering financial relief but still haven't heard back from them despite the case being escalated. This is a known issue and is a risk to driver safety. There should be a recall and all expenses should be reimbursed!.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2024

2018 Traverse. 70k miles. We purchased it brand new at the end of 2017. On September 22, 2024, we were driving home from michigan the car sputtered and would not accelerate. We were almost hit by a semi that was driving behind us. We were able to pull into a gas station and put the car in park. While sitting at gas station the car shut off and wouldn't restart. No warning lights came on prior to the vehicle shutting down. We had it towed to our mechanic (vip automotive- new lenox, illinois). The mechanic went through the car and advised that the engine had seized. All fluid levels were fine, no leaks, all scheduled maintenance completed on time. He found metal chunks- not just shavings- in the oil pan. He said he's never seen anything like this and that the catastrophic engine failure had to be due to a defect in the engine. It ended up costing us almost $6,000 to have another motor installed in the car. I contacted chevy, and was basically told too bad, and that they would not cover or assist with anything. The car was extremely well maintained and I provided a copy of all service records dating back to 2017 when we purchased the car. There are numerous groups on facebook that have same/similar complaints on the chevy Traverse (3. 6l v6) and chevy trucks/suvs (6. 2l v8). I believe they are aware that there are numerous issues with these vehicles and continue to sell them, despite the risk to consumer safety.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2024

The vehicle was struggling to pick up the gears and stalled in the road. After having it checked at the chevy dealer stated it was the transmission that needed to be replaced. The vehicle is unable to reverse due the the transmission issue. Unable to drive. There is no active recall for this issue which is concerning, considering I've read multiple drivers have the same issue with the 2018 chevy Traverse.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in park(p), the message “shift to park” was displayed even thought the vehicle was in park(p). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the contact was informed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,900.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

Experienced slipping and shuddering while driving and a sudden loss of power. The vehicle also would not accelerate while driving. The vehicle was towed to a chevy dealer as it was not drivable. The gear shift is malfunctioning. When parking keep getting shift to park message when in park. Have to tap shift or turn car off and on several times and shift gears for it to register the car is parked. Has not been inspected yet. No warning messages at all.

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

The transmission will not go into reverse. While in drive, the transmission will completely stop, thus jerking the car to a stop. Prior to this, there was difficulty putting into park.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2024

The shifter or gear selector does not sense when it is in park. So it will not fully let the vehicle power down. Example. . . . If I park, place the vehicle in position park, the "p" on the dash is illuminated, the "p" on the center console is illuminated, the doors unlock, but system information screen will continue to alert, ringing, with an alert to place vehicle in park. This is happening now everyday, sometimes take 10 plus minutes before the car senses it is actually in park.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Every time I turn the vehicle off I get a warning “shift to park” but it is in park. I’ve called the dealership and was told there is no recall or bulletin for my VIN but it is a known issue on other chevy Traverse’s. The dealership is going to charge me to run diagnostics and repair but since this is a known issue it should be a recall.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

Shift assembly has failed twice - April 2021 and April 2024. For this latest occurrence (April 2024), the vehicle spontaneosly stops registering when I shift into park. When I shift, the vehicle sends a warning to shift into park. There is a safety concern because I cannot determine whether or not the vehicle is actually in park. The gm dealer has determined that the issue is a faulty shifter switch and harness and a faulty shift knob. The issue occurred and was repaired in April 2021. The issue began occuring again, intermittently, in January 2024. Issue became consistent (inability to shift to park) about March 2024. At the same time, the parking brake/stabilitrak began engaging each time the vehicle stops (e. G. , at stop lights, etc), which has caused premature brake wear. In April 2024 the following parts were replaced: shifter switch (part #84955381) harness (part #84733196) brake rotors brake pads.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted into park(p); however, the “shift to park” message was displayed. The contact shifted the gear shifter back and forth and then firmly shifted into park(p) before the proper gear was recognized. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2024

The transmission on this year/make/model has a bad track record as shown by numerous technical service bulletins. Car will repeatedly not shift throughout 9 speed transmission TSB: pip5546c 17-na-317 pip5621d 04-07-30-013e 20-na-138 06-00-89-031 21-na-201 pip5697e 18-na-298.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2024

The transmission on my 2018 chevy Traverse went out per the mechanic that recently inspected it. It was just purchased from a chevy dealership not even 8 months ago. I first noticed the problem a couple weeks ago when my car hit about 25mph getting on the highway then wouldn’t go any faster as I would try to accelerate speed, then it was jerking and was harshly engaging from time to time. Then it finally felt like someone crashed into the back of my car it jerked so hard and then accelerated but only went up to 40mph and wouldn’t go any faster. It would hit 40 mph and then idol at the speed when you would hit the gas to accelerate. No engine light came on or anything at that time. Then a couple days later the shifter would be put into reverse and then not go in reverse when you hit the gas to go. Having two young kids, my husband told me it wasn’t safe to be driving it at all. We had it towed to a mechanic shop to be inspected since we depend on a car for our job. The mechanic inspected it with a diagnostic code reader as well as looking at the transmission. The overall condition is that the transmission is not working anymore. I have done research and for this specific make, model and year there are tons of recalls for the transmission.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2024

It has a leak and having electrical issues. Everything else unknown.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2024

Shift to park error occurs everytime I put my car into park. It does not turn off and the vehicle remains on until I jiggle the shifter. This has been "repaired" 2x under warranty. Now that it is out of warranty the manufacturer refuses to cover any of the expenses on this known issue with a bulletin per your website (18-na-297).

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

9t65 auto transmission failed at 115,000 miles. It won't change past 3rd gear, and engine has reduced power. Towed it to the chevy dealership where we bought it in york SC. They told me it needed a new transmission and it was not covered by any warranty. I then took it to a transmission repair place and was told it needed a new transmission and the cost was estimated at $7300. I've read lots on the internet about numerous people having the same issue. There was even a very short term trial program to repair or replace the transmission on some vehicles. . . . Had to be low miles and fairly new. Meanwhile, our Traverse has been sitting for about a year while I continue to make monthly payments on it.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2023

The car shifter doesn't detect that it's parked and keeps displaying "shift to park" message not allowing you to turn off the car completely. This problem happened before and was only fixed by replacing the shifter but it happens again after about the same time driving the original shifter.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2023

I was driving on the highway and without any warning, the acceleration did not work in my car. I coasted to the side of the highway and waited for over an hour for a tow truck to arrive. Chevrolet replaced the transmission. I was told Chevrolet would consider rebates if I go through a Chevrolet dealership to fix it. They charged $2,000 over other shops, but only offered $200 off. They also took over a month to repair my vehicle. I wish I did not use them for repairs. Also, during heavy rains, the car leaked water through the electrical components in the roof. We intervened several times, but water persistently came through. Finally, we purchased the car at under 30,000 miles and immediately needed to replace the exhaust and shift to park feature. The car would not recognize when I was in park and could not turn off.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2023

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the failure began a year ago, however the failure has become persistent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2023

"shift to park” message displays despite vehicle being in ”park”. This prevents the engine from being shut off. Consistently need to move vehicle gear shift back into other gears, then shove gear shift into park with force allowing me to shut off ignition. Apparently there was a recall about this same common issue many others are experiencing. My vehicle report shows no outstanding recalls, despite this exact issue being a documented, previous recall.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

N222385510, the exhaust system separated from the car. There are current recalls from gm for 2019-current Traverse models with the exact same issue. Our 2018 has the exact same problem and our local gm dealer verified it, but they will not cover this expense. We were quoted $2,000 + for the fix, gm customer care has been no help.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

When I put my car into park and turn it off I’m shift to park error code. So the car stays on and won’t turn off. I turn the car on and off shift the gear and nothing happens. I have to sit in the car a hope that it goes into park. See photo.
