Failure Date: 01/06/2026

Hello this particular vehicle often gives us a message stating that side detection is temporarily unavailable and the main issue is the transmission seems to have severe shufdering issues and sometimes gives a shift to park message ive read others having this same issue being recalled but my VIN is not listed! the car is available upon request for any inspections necessary.

2 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 11/25/2025

A car approached my blind spot and the blind spot detection did not alert. I tried to change lanes assuming the system was functioning and nearly ran someone off the road. Shortly after this the “service blind spot detection light” came on. Following this failure the vehicle telematics went out rendering the paid on star safety system useless. Parts to remedy the issue on indefinite back order per gm on 12/8/25.

3 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 08/04/2025

My 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, has unresolved safety defects that endanger occupants and other road users. These include transmission failure with loss of acceleration, “shift?to?park” malfunctions preventing engine shut?off, inoperative blind?spot/cross?traffic sensors, faulty tire pressure monitoring, and an active oil leak from the timing gasket cover. These issues occur unpredictably during normal driving and parking, creating an immediate risk of collision, roll?away, or engine fire. All of these issued happened within a very short time frame. June 2025 and I took my car into crews chevy, they want over $15,000 to repair. All of these items I have mentioned have numerous class action lawsuits (that they have won) for the year of my vehicle. I have spoken with gm (and have a case number) however, they are unwilling to repair, at no cost to me. I have an [xxx] daughter and work 7 days a week. I have been with out a car since [xxx] due to these issues. I do have the estimate for the repairs if needed. I do not have an actual repair invoice, as I wasn't able to afford the over $15,000 repairs. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

5 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The 2015 chevy Traverse ltz that I own is presenting with the same problems as many of its body style and year. The water intrusion has caused wiring to corrode in the side detection system & the drivers door wiring harness is presenting with open circuits. The lh side object module is throwing code u0233:00. They tested circuits at rh module. Found water intrusion in module, & corrosion on terminals & harness. Due to nature of location of modules, they recommend replacing lh & rh modules & harness. Dtc b0085:05 current. Tested circuits & found open circuit internal to drivers door harness. Recommend replacing harness. The air bag code threw 2 days after I bought the veh 04/01/25, I attempted to contact the dealership I bought the vehicle from, autocredit in hayden, id, who admitted to the dangerous code being present, and that they were going to do nothing about it. Some time late April, my veh threw the code for side detection. On 05/27/25 I took my veh into taylor & sons chevy in ponderay, who dx my codes, and advised the above was needed. They also confirmed the fact that when that airbag code is present, that none of my airbags would deploy at time of impact if a collision occurred. This is a huge safety risk as much of my daily commute is on the hwy, and the influx of drivers in my area not familiar with the roads is increasing daily. My side detection system is a safety hazard as well due to the Traverse’s blind spots. Thank you for your time. I did not know what to do until I contacted chevy directly who advised me to contact the NHTSA.

6 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 02/27/2025

The blindspot modules are put behind the wheel well in the bumper exposed to the elements. Water gets in these modules and cause them to swell and fail. Each module is sold at the dealer for $340 a piece and gm recommends you replace both along with the wiring harness. This job if done at the dealer is costing consumers $1300-$1600. If you replace the modules yourself then the dealer charges you a programming fee of $195-$215 in my area. This is a design flaw and other gm vehicles like the acadia have a recall. Why doesn’t the Chevrolet Traverse have the same?.

7 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 06/20/2024

When driving my vehicle with the air condition on after about 25 minutes, the audio system completely goes out. No sound from the stereo, the backup camera alert, the blind spot alert, the "clicking" sound from the blinkers, all chimes, everything. The mechanic looked at the car and stated that this is a result of the condensation from the hvac system entering the active noise cancellation (anc) module through the module vents. He stated this should have been a recall as it is an extreme safety hazard as it prevents any audio alerts of the blind spot or backup camera warning systems. He states the anc module should be replaced and a secondary shield should be installed to prevent this in the future. The sound eventually comes back once the condensation dries up but once the air condition comes back on again shortly all the sounds go out again.

10 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/24/2023

Side detection unavailable alert keeps coming and off on, when car is started. The alert comes and goes.

11 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 06/10/2023

Passenger side mirror blind spot detection started flickering and then remained on while the vehicle is in park and in motion. Shortly afterwards it stopped working all together and began receiving a service side detection warning light on dashboard. While backing up the camera still working but there is no sensor working that detects close people or vehicles. Extremely dangerous for little kids that almost ran behind vehicle. While driving down the highway, I was almost involved in accidents while attempting to make a lane change and did not see vehicle in next lane as it was in blindspot. Issue seems to be very wide spread with this model. A service bulletin was issued for acadia (same design as the Traverse) for same detection warning. Gm dealership reported that the issue is also common which is why the parts needed for repair are on a backorder status with no eta. Nhtsa needs to take action.

12 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

Gm issued a warranty extension/ service bulletin for the rear blind spot modules for water intrusion which can cause the airbag light to illuminate as well as shut off other features of the vehicle on the GMC acadia and other models while excluding the Traverse, which is essentially the same vehicle as the Traverse. The vehicle listed above is currently experiencing the blind spot module failure, which in turn is causing thee vehicle to stall unexpectedly, blinkers do not function intermittently, remote start does not function intermittently, door locks do not function unless locked from inside the vehicle intermittently and will not start intermittently. All of these concerns are alleviated by replacing the blind spot modules.

13 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 02/08/2023

Blind spot side detection modules failed due to water intrusion / corrosion (known design defect). As a result, the computer system shorted out, which caused the computer to go into a type of fault mode. While we driving down the road, the blinkers stopped working, the gauges (including speedometer) stopped working, the screens turned off, and the airbag and tire pressure warning lights activated. This is a known issue, according to the dealer repair department. A basic google search indicates that many people are having this problem. This is a big safety issue because all of these things happened spontaneously while we were driving the vehicle. Repairing the faulty blind spot side detection modules fixes the problem--a $1,900 repair bill. Gm should be made to recall these vehicles. Gm should be made to reimburse customers for these repairs.

14 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

For over two months now I have been dealing with gm as well as different dealerships and auto mechanics to try and repair a safety feature on my 2017 chev Traverse. I have been told by all of them the same issue or needing items replaced yet there are no parts. They have been on back order for 1+ years with no eta in sight. This is now causing the computer in the vehicle to malfunction to cause more damage that also cannot yet be repaired. New issue while driving my vehicle - the entire dash cluster goes black (all still tied to the same issue). Speedometer and all gauges drop to 0 (zero) as if the car was not running or turned on. After a few minutes it came back on with every single service/ error light on the dash. This happened 4 times in the span of half an hour drive. Gm's aware and not backing their product or helping get parts to repair, yet I am out the money of the car and a car payment for a vehicle that is unsafe. What options do I have as a consumer? how are these safety features helping when they cannot be fixed, ordered, or repaired. Who's liable for this? why can't this be recalled and corrected? there are many articles as well as service bulletins from gm about this known issue involving not only my year, make and model but also the chevy cruze, impala, acadia (n172097060 - special coverage - side blind zone alert module water intrusion) and I would like to know how to file a claim, have this be investigated, and get the problem solved not out of my pocket so that I have a vehicle with features to keep me as well as other individuals safe on the road that I pay for. Why is it that gm is allowed to continue using these parts they know are faulty, and need a shield protector to protect against this exact problem but wont cover there own vehicle and product?.

15 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/01/2022

When driving during rain, the abs light came on due to wet conditions and reduced my driving speed ability, and created difficulty for traffic and for my family on the highway. This of which made me have to pull off to the side of the road and try to travel 40 minutes to a safe destination at a very slow speed while my vehicle was difficult to drive. Once parked overnight at a hotel it was okay to drive but created a very dangerous situation on the roadways. I wasn't sure that I could drive it in the morning and was hundreds of miles from home. Another situation is when my led dash lights go out or become nearly invisible. I can't read anything on the dashboard that displays mileage or anything else. Can make it difficult for driving and safety concerns. Also, my blind spot detection quit working and has caused problems detecting cars and anything else while driving or backing up. Another issue is my side airbag came open by itself but has not launched (thankfully). I cannot repair it on my own. These are expensive issues. I had already replaced all of my tires due to the tires that had been on it kept going flat and the sensors stopped working.

16 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/27/2022

I am getting a service side detection system alert along with service code.

17 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/16/2022

When sitting in a parking lot when the car was running, many different service now lights flashed across the dashboard. The lights on the side mirrors were on and still on. We turned off the car and the heater engine was still running even without the key in the ignition. When we tried to restart the car, it did absolutely nothing. Would not turn over or even click. It was worked on in the parking lot for 3 hours to get it to start. We had to disconnected a cord on the side of the dash and door locks, all wheel drive, driver side windows and the rear door would not work. A day later we plugged the cord back in and all the components worked except the lights on side mirrors were still on. After taking it to a dealer they confirmed that they had serviced other Chevrolet Traverse's that had the same problems. If this would have happened in traffic it could have caused an accident. No warning lamps, messages or other problems prior to this incident.

18 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

Side blind zone detection system reported service required in the driver information center. Upon further investigation drivers side model pn 22844861 was swollen with corrosion. This eventually led to other issues on the vehicle including the turn signals dash information and air bag warning and remote key fob not working. Gm issued service bulletin 16-na-178 for repair. I initiated a case number with gm 9-7646907751. I also found gm n172097060 special coverage for the same issue for the 2013-2014 GMC acadia, which uses the same system as the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. I would like to get this resolved by gm and I’m unsure why they do not include the Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick enclave for this special coverage for side blind zone alert module water intrusion.

19 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

General motors is not notifying gm vehicle owners of electrical defect malfunctions that has been on-going for a number of years; leaving vehicle owners with alarming operational occurrences and unexpected repair expenses. While driving our 2013 Chevrolet Traverse fall 2021, we experienced the passenger airbag light coming on and staying on, along with the blind spot detection system lights coming on and staying on for both side mirrors. Also, the key fob wouldn’t work—manually lock and unlock the vehicle. We disconnected the negative battery terminal to reset the computers, resulting in the key fob to work and the passenger airbag light to go out. The blind spot detection system continued to malfunction so we scheduled a repair appointment with our Chevrolet dealership. Prior to the appointment, we endured a frightening experience while driving our Traverse; the entire instrument panel went out along with the radio. This electrical malfunction occurred on two separate occasions. In addition, the engine light came on and the engine temperature gage did not work properly. The dealership performed two diagnostic tests 11/5/2021 determining the engine coolant sensor malfunction and blind spot detection system modules/hardness malfunction. The dealership service manager explained other electrical malfunctions such as steering wheel movement and passenger seat movement that could occur while driving our vehicle should we continue to operate our vehicle without repairing the blind spot detection system and the need to replace both modules and the electrical harness. The video showed both modules were severely corroded. He also explained there is nothing a vehicle owner can do to prevent the corrosion because the modules are placed in the rear bumper—susceptible to moisture penetration and system malfunction. The repair costs was $1664. 11/30/2021 customer assistance center stated by phone call, no action or reimbursement unless a recall is issued.

20 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/05/2021

We noticed an alert on our dash display saying service side detection system and we asked a mechanic he said the blind spot warning and side airbags are not functioning because of this alert and we just only bought this car less than 5 months ago and stuff like this is failing.

21 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 02/20/2021

No sound from vehicle. No blinker, no back up, no bluetooth, no radio. No sounds! this is a danger to myself and others! while driving, the sound went out.

22 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The surround vision system not working. It was occasionally, now it does not work at all. We only get a dark screen with a red hazard triangle. It started the day we bought the car and the dealer claims they have another car like mine ahead of me with the same problem. Since the last week of December they have claimed that gm does not have a fix for this issue. I made a complaint with my Chevrolet customer service case # 9-6485705057, but I don't get any answers from them either. I am not sure if this system is tied into the adaptive braking/cruse, but I have yet to have the vehicle take action in that regard. In checking that out. I got way closer than I felt comfortable with, I keep waiting for the car to react to the closing distance but it never did. I backed it off myself. I was well within two car lengths of the vehicle ahead (55 mph) and closing in at about 3 or 4 mph. If you have to be closer than that for it to activate then I will not be using it. I have been dealing with this dealership for several years, and have purchased 3 automobiles from them. They have performed the regular service and warranty work on all of them with no problems at all. For them to have an issue fixing it is not typical of the service I have received from them in the past. So, when they tell me gm does not know how to fix the issue. I have to believe them up to a point. With the small windows in the back of this vehicle. Visibility is extremely limited, and it is a safety issue. If they can't keep the basic surround vision system working. How are they going to maintain autonomous vehicles to a level that protects all involved?.

24 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

Purchased 3/1/2019 problems since 4/18/2019 electrical system malfunctioning. Remote left in vehicle warning when no key in vehicle, rear view mirror overheating (over 110*) cellphone charging port overheating, blind spot detection malfunctioning, forward collision detection malfunctioning, navigation and iphone audio connections malfunctioning. Mirror was replaced once. Rear camera was replaced twice. This was after a gm service person was sent down to rotolo to look into it. Since then nothing has been repaired. Service reps keep saying they can't get it to duplicate the problems. We have video and photos of issues. Matt wolf was the gm investigator. He never returns calls/emails. Yesterday after several phone calls to different gm departments, I was informed he no longer works with the company. The last thing I was told was to wait for a call to bring the vehicle into rotolo so another gm service person would be sent. That was over 2 months ago. Since no one has called I scheduled another service for sat. Vehicle cannot be driven and has to sit parked. It is unsafe to drive. Problems ongoing since 4/2019.
