Vehicle: 2020 Chevrolet Traverse VIN: [xxx] mileage: 50,100 miles ownership: original owner the driver’s seat belt intermittently fails to latch. This is a primary safety restraint system, federally required, and critical for occupant protection. The failure occurs randomly and cannot be reliably duplicated. The dealer inspected the seat belt buckle and confirmed no debris or obstruction. The dealer was unable to duplicate the issue during their inspection. Video documentation from the owner of the intermittent failure is available. This appears to be a premature mechanical failure of a safety-critical component. The vehicle is only 50,100 miles and properly maintained. Failure of the driver’s seat belt could prevent proper restraint in an accident, creating a serious safety risk. There are no open recalls related to this issue, and the vehicle is out of warranty. I contacted the manufacturer about goodwill assistance for repair. They confirmed that, since there are no open recalls, the issue cannot be duplicated, and the vehicle is out of warranty, they will not provide reimbursement or cost assistance. The driver’s seat belt should not fail during the expected life of the vehicle. At 50,100 miles on a 2020 Traverse, this appears to be a premature mechanical failure of a safety-critical component. I am submitting this complaint to document this issue for this vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My seat belts do not click when fastened or stay fastened. Sometimes I have to try several times to get the seabelt to click.
I purchased a 2019 chevy Traverse brand new off the lot as single owner and kept up with maintenance. The transmission just went out while I was on the highway and abruptly begin reducing speed and I was unable to accelerate. This was dangerous as no warning lights came on prior to this happening to warn that there were any engine issues. This could have caused an accident on the highway due to me not having control to accelerate and vehicle DE-accelerated without warning. Also the passenger seat belt stop working and would not click. There was a shift to park warning that kept coming up on the car about 1. 5 years ago that should be a recall as the car would not go off when turned off. The radio and lights in the vehicle would continue to run while the engine was off. I am concerned about all of the issue with this car that makes me question the quality and build of this vehicle. The first 4 years this vehicle was great and then all of a sudden it begin to breakdown in parts. The dealership confirmed all of these things and I asked if warranties were on these items and it was not.

Name: [xxx] •address: [xxx] •phone: [xxx] •email: [xxx] date of incident: October 7, 2025 description of problem: while driving our 2025 Chevrolet Traverse on October 7, 2025, our son was sitting in the third-row seat and somehow managed to buckle two seatbelts at once—one from the right side and one from the left—crossing them over his chest and neck. Once both belts were latched, they locked in place. When we tried to loosen one side, the opposite side only tightened further, causing him to be choked. We tried multiple ways to release the seatbelts, but the locking mechanism prevented any movement. Several adults tried to help, but no one could free him. We ultimately had to cut one of the seatbelts to safely release him. He was left with visible red marks on his neck, and the incident caused significant fear and distress. The seatbelts were crisscrossed, which explains why attempting to loosen one side made the other side tighten. This appears to be a dangerous design issue, as there was no safe or quick way to release the belts in this situation. We are deeply concerned that this design could pose a serious strangulation hazard to children or other passengers in the future. Attachments: •photos showing the crisscrossed seatbelts •photos showing the red marks on the neck after the incident we request that NHTSA review this complaint to determine if this is a vehicle safety defect and take any appropriate action to prevent similar incidents from occurring. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Regarding the vehicle's functionality, the horn activated unexpectedly on or around may 2, 2025, sounding continuously for approximately 10-15 minutes while the vehicle was occupied. Subsequently, the horn has ceased to function. Furthermore, on or around may 10, 2025, the powertrain system indicator illuminated, leading to a diagnosis on may 18th that identified code p0455, indicating an evap system leak. Concurrently, the driver's side seat belt buckle has exhibited a tendency to detach and fall between the seat components, failing to remain in its intended position.

The front passenger seat belt does not work. I dont have anyone in the front passenger seat. When I did the seatbelt did not lock.
On this 3 row SUV, the middle row has a bench seat vs captain seats in some models. In order to let passengers in the 3rd row, you must lean the middle row end seats up. When doing this from the left side of the vehicle, the middle seat in the middle row's seatbelt buckle falls back a little. So then when you lean the seat back after leaning it forward to let passengers in the 3rd row, the buckle gets caught up and over time, internal mechanisms inside the buckle break to where you can not fasten the seatbelt into the buckle any more. This happened while we were in a trip and had no choice but to ride back home with one passenger who didn't have a seatbelt to wear.
Veh continues to display service stabilitrak when coming out of auto stop at a light or stop. Service restraint likely keeps coming on unable to buckle seat belts sometime seat get stuck when moving forward or backwards on driver side shift to park light keeps coming on service parking break is coming in as well for no apparent reason.
My front passenger seat belt has started to not latch. I have to push the button and insert the seatbelt in order for it to latch. Sometimes it will release on it’s own.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle with a front seat passenger with the front seat passenger’s seat belt latched, the “fasten front passenger seat belt" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who serviced the vehicle but after retrieving the vehicle, the failure immediately reoccurred. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 3.

1)the air conditioning unit line has caused a leak. It was determined this line needs to be replaced by an independent service center. This a/c line is located from under the front of the hood all the way to the rear of vehicle. This line constantly rubs and there is friction with other lines/hoses (power steering), and other components under the hood. No rubbing should occur. The rubbing and friction cause holes to form causing not only for it to leak out but also potentially leak on other components under the hood which could cause other issues such as breakdown of the vehicle or fire. It has affected us not only by not providing a/c under extreme heat, but also has caused hissing sounds and for white smoke vapors that has omitted from the vents inside the vehicle. It has also caused us to breathe in the vapors which are toxic. There was cold a/c felt through the vents and we were not aware of any issues until now (7/19/2024). This is a very costly repair, over $1500 and up for the average consumer to pay out. 2)park assist & sound that are unable to hear & works intermittently. The radio display & speakers work intermittently. The park assist is connected to the speakers. When the speakers and radio/radio display do not work properly; it causes the park assist to not function correctly when backing up. This is a safety issue due to blind spots and areas one cannot see and depending on the park assist to aide them; something can get hit or run over. There is an issue with engine fuse box wiring & terminals gm knows of. 3)driver seat belt lap anchor pretentioner. Only special coverage adjustment which states dealers are to inspect & replace. They failed to send out the notice to me. I was told I have to pay the dealership a diagnostic fee to inspect it then fix from there. I shouldn’t have to pay the fee to have it replaced like it states in the documents. Nor worry about safety of seatbelt & components going to fail to protect in the event of a crash.

My airbag warning light came on and the system reported a seatbelt issue. There was a recall for my vehicle in 2014 that wasn’t repaired. Over time my vehicle has had insurmountable electrical issues as well.
Second row seat belt is stuck in the seat adjustment lever arm. Causes passengers or children to ride home without seat belts. The belt locks up and can not be freed from the adjuster arm.

Drivers seat belt not able to click and stay also passengers seat belt is hard to get it to click in. The second row on left side seat belt won’t stay clicked in.
Middle seatbelt will not retract. This vehicle has not been in any accidents.
In sept 2022 my airbag light came on and dealer charged me $1,200 for a senor issue to fix, then in December 2022 it came on again they said it was a different issue related to vehicle safety and charged me for part. Then in June 2023 I received the recall notice for my airbag - I've tried multiple times to see when this can be fixed hopefully prior to shards of metal impaling me - told parts not available. In October 2023 the airbag light came on again and this time they said it was the seatbelt anchor and want to charge me $487. It appears they need to figure out a priority to fix what can harm people - if they have parts to make new cars. Also it is obvious this vehicle has safety issues making money for dealer and costly both time and money (dealer doesn't offer loaners). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, he became aware that the front driver's side seat belt lap pretensioner had detached. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the remaining pieces of the lap belt pretensioner harness needed to be removed. The contact was informed that a new front driver's seat belt lap pretensioner needed to be installed under gm campaign number: n192219480; however, the parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and denied vehicle rental assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
Drivers side seatbelt, wont stay latched. On several occasions seatbelt just released. Seatbelt button was not engaging.
The driver's seat belt would not "buckle up" or latch into the buckle. This issue started a couple of months ago but it just seemed to be stiffer than the other belts. Then suddenly it started to release while driving. Then we were not able to get it to work at all. The dealership was able to get the vehicle in immediately and replaced the seat belt assembly. My safety and the safety of any of my family driving this vehicle was a risk of a malfunctioning seat belt. I don't know if it would have held if I were to get into an accident and I'm concerned about the passenger seat as well. Other than it being a little difficult to buckle up there were no other warning signs. The dealership replaced the part on 5/15/23.
The backseat seatbelt is not working. When you insert the metal part of the seatbelt in the clip, it won’t clip. You have to push the button numerous times then it clicks. However, I’m not sure if it’s safe enough to trust since it’s faulty at the insert. Also, the passenger seatbelt is faulty. When seatbelt is on, the seatbelt stays in a lock position and doesn’t loosen, it stays tight although brakes weren’t applied, to promote it to lock. I can send a video ob both faulty seatbelts.
Seat belt buckle had outer case fall apart now buckle doesn't stay latched and is unsafe. Cannot keep buckle properly latched and snug.
The center row passenger side seat belt buckle plug cover fell off. No accident took place. We tried to plug in the buckle and the cover fell off which made the plug ineffective. Could have been harmful had it disassembled during an accident.
My driver side seat belt cable snaped. All I did was go to put my seat belt on. There was no warning no warning lights no nothing. This is a recall (recall no. 14v266000 recall date; 05-20-2014) for these vehicles manufactured June 6, 2008 thru may 14, 2014 but as I was told by GMC not for my vehicle VIN number. I was told by them I may have special coverage but I would have to have it inspected by a dealership. The dealership told me it would be $195 for them to look at it. I then called GMC back and spoke with someone else who told me that special coverage would not cover the seat belt and basically I was out of luck. This is obviously a problem with their seatbelts and had I been in an accident I could have been seriously injured they should have to replace it at no cost to me.

3 major issues—1. The driver side seatbelt does not latch any more. This started happening 11/1/2022. 2. The "shift to park" message continues to appear while the car is in park. The vehicle at times will not shut off due to the message even thought it's actually in park. This has been happening for over a year without a fix and now we're over our 3 year warranty. 3. The car has 45 miles on it before it needed to refuel, however, it stalled and completed shut off in the middle of traffic causing a jam behind us! we had one of our toddlers in the car too which could have ended much worse. The car was towed to chevy ($160 bill for us), and chevy said it stalled and turned off because the fuel was empty even though it the dashboard said 45 miles on it.
This is a 8 seat SUV. The second row center seat belt is not working - will not latch. This is caused because the buckle is positioned between the 60/40 moving seats. When people are in the third row seating area and the second row seats move forward to exit it crushes the buckle. After repeated crushes it now does not operate. The second row center seat person can not keep the seat belt latched and is not restrained.
I got in the car to put the seatbelt on and it just snapped at the floor, the lap belt cable which runs down to the left of the drivers seat. That braided cable just snapped. Shoulder harness still works, but no lap belt.
The component that failed or is not functioning properly is the passenger seat seat belt component where the seat belt inserts into. The seat belt cannot be inserted into the component and lock/secure in place. This poses a safety hazard to the front seat passenger as they are not able to easily and safely buckle the seat belt. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they acknowledge the malfunctioning seat belt component and stated they will not cover the replacement of it even though the vehicle is less than 5 years old.
We bought the chevy Traverse from eagle pass, texas autoworld dealership. We test drove the vehicle and made the car dealer aware that some of the seatbelts were not functioning and also that the breaks were making a screeching sound. The car dealer made notes and said he would have the seatbelts and brakes looked over at a later time. We. Still bought the vehicle and followed up with the dealership only to be told the car sales man no longer works there and that we would be charged a fee for having the seatbelts looked at totally disregarded the break issues. Now we have a newer vehicle but with faulty seatbelts and breaks.
2014 chevy Traverse driver side seatbelt broke at the cable while putting the seatbelt on. There is a recall for 2009-2014 chevy Traverses about this issue but mine isn't a part of that recall and it still happened too me. Chevy will not fix it free of charge. This is a safety issue since my seatbelt does not work properly now. The same year Traverse have the problem but my VIN isn't in the recall list.
The seatbelt buckle in the middle row jams and makes the seatbelt unusable. I took the vehicle to the dealer and was told I had to pay for this repair when this is clearly a safety issue that Chevrolet should take care of. There is a defect in the seatbelt buckles for this vehicle. When I first purchased it in July 2021 they had to replace one seatbelt buckle and now a second one stopped working.
