Body Problems of Chevrolet Trax

My check engine light went on and stayed on while I was driving. I called blaise alexander, altoona, PA. Reported and scheduled a checkup on Dec. 11. I drove to the garage, arriving at 10am. And noticed a smell of fire and saw smoke billowing out around the hood of the car. I ran into service area and told them the car must be on fire. They called the altoona fire dept. The police gave me a number, which I gave state farm insurance. I drove approximately 23 miles along rt I 99 to reach the garage. Apparently there is a history of 2024 and 2025 Trax models having fires in the engine. Possibly associated with the fuel system.

When it rains and or I wash my car, going down the road after at about 35-50 with my sunroof vented or window cracked about an inch, the car makes an awful sound like im gurgling out of a straw. Just completed a buyback with a 24 Trax 2rs and got a 25 2rs with the same sunroof issue. Engineers say its the drain lines being pinched in the pillars but still have yet to get a solution and have to start all over with my new lemon.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the vehicle’s rear structure and frame were compromised. After a low-speed rear-end collision (approximately 5 mph), the frame bent, and the vehicle was declared a total loss by the insurance company. The car is no longer available for inspection as it has been taken by insurance, but documentation including photos, insurance reports, and repair estimates is available upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the fact that the frame sustained significant damage in such a low-speed collision raises concerns about the overall durability and crashworthiness of the vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, the damage was confirmed by the insurance adjuster and an independent collision repair shop, both of whom concluded that the vehicle’s frame was bent. The repair facility stated that the vehicle could not be repaired due to the extent and nature of the frame damage. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, the vehicle was inspected by an insurance adjuster and an independent body shop. The manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle, and police were not involved as it was a minor collision without injuries. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, there were no warning lamps or messages prior to the incident. The issue only became apparent after the vehicle was rear-ended, at which point the structural damage was assessed.

I was forced to sell my Jeep and buy a chevy Trax at friendly Chevrolet back in 2020 because supposdely there was a pandemic and the economy shut down. It has been giving me lots of problems. I have taken it to friendly Chevrolet, young Chevrolet and lakeside Chevrolet several times since 2020 and they always say: leave it here, we cannot loan you a car, it will take 5-7 days to repair it. It jerks when I drive it, every time I get gas, the car doesn't start unless I push the speed pedal and drive. The worst and recent incident was 2 weeks ago when I was driving in [xxx] , and the car turned off completely as if they had turned off the light of your house, it blacked out. I stayed on the road and I could see my death nearby. The cars that were driving behind me almost killed me and a multiple fatality accident is almost caused. Fortunately, I'm fine and the others are fine because they managed to slow down their speed in time or Dodge me to avoid a wreck. I took my car to lakeside Chevrolet to get it serviced and this is what the advisor told it will take 5-7 days to get your car only diagnosed and it will cost you more than $200 for this step. I begged for a car loaner and he said that the owner of the dealership doesn't have money to give me one. He also mentioned that because the pandemic, he had to spend money from his savings to get his business-dealership going. My car is still there and they called me last Friday to tell me that they cannot fix my car because global company is out of miles range. They told me that is was safe to drive my car to friendly Chevrolet and take it there to get it fixed. I called friendly Chevrolet and they said they cannot bring my car to them because they do not pay for towing. (what kind of stupid person they think I am to tell me to drive a unsafe car from rockwall to dallas?) these dealerships are not helping me, they are just [xxx]! On October 22, 2025 I drove 10 miles from my home. I turned off and parked the vehicle at approx. 8:58 am. Within 2 minutes I notices quite a bit of smoke coming from under the hood. I called the fire department and within 10 minutes the entire front of the car was on fire. The vehicle from front bumper through the dashboard was completely destroyed. There were no warning lights on. I purchased the vehicle on June 5th 2024. My insurance CO. Did the appraisal and deemed it a total loss of course. The dealership and general motors refuse to do anything to investigate. I have documentation of all calls. General motors told me they do not put anything in writing.

The issue involves the upper corners of all four door frames on my 2024 Chevrolet Trax, which are extremely sharp. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. On approximately may 13, 2024, and again on August 16, 2025, my passenger in the front seat was struck in the face by the sharp door frame corner, while exiting the vehicle. In both incidents, the corner cut my passenger's cheek below the eye, resulting in small open wounds, which needed to be cleaned and disinfected. The problem has occurred twice under normal use. I reported the first incident to general motors (gm) on may 15, 2024, but did not receive a response. On sept 22, 2025, I reported the second incident that occurred on sept 2, 2025, to gm, at which time they asked several questions and requested photos of my vehicle, which I provided. On sept 22, 2025, gm requested I take my vehicle to my dealership, j. B. A. Chevrolet, for inspection. I took my vehicle to jba on sept 29, 2025, and was told that gm wanted photos of my vehicle, as well as photos of another 2024 Trax on the lot for comparison. At that time, jba had to wait for another vehicle to come in. Unknown if jba or gm attempted to reproduce the issue during an inspection. On oct 24, 2025, gm telephoned and issued a final determination, which I requested in writing and received on Nov 11, 2025. Gm stated that because the design was consistent across Trax vehicles, and based on the facts provided, they were unable to assume responsibility for damages and suggested I resolve the issue with my insurance company. I did not ask for damages, I asked for corrective measures to avoid future injuries. I submitted a request for reconsideration on Dec 2, 2025. On Dec 16, 2025, a totally different gm office contacted me, which did not yield any results. Although the injuries were minor, the repeated nature of the harm indicates a foreseeable risk to future passengers and to other Trax owners. Uploading 10 pages in pdf format.

Water has been pooling in the wheel well under trunk of my car undetected due to the covering overlap. Water has been leaking due to the rain from outside in. My back seats were wet, my spare tire was flooded, and a smell has began to set in my car. My cars speed has been slower to increase which can put my response time to dangerous situations slower. I have an appointment on the 10th of January to have my car looked at and I have began a claim with Chevrolet. No warning signs were made present. I had cleaned out a few gallons of water from my trunk last night and again this morning my car was filling up with water due to the rainy season. This website is not letting me upload files.

The paint is peeling off. It started as a bubble and then popped. There is no rust to indicate this being from wear and tear. The back and two spots on the hood are affected by this issue.

Numerous problems with engine overheating light coming on, leaking coolant, going up hill, car hesitate, car shakes at times.

Bought 2016 Trax January 2019 with 19000 miles. In 2022, with only 31000 miles, I have had multiple issues. First, my dashboard display suddenly went black; no radio, backup camera or sound with directional signals. Before I could take car to dealer my battery died and when a new battery was installed all issues were corrected. Then in March the water pump needed replacing, at which time I was told that the compressor also needed replacing. I also have peeling paint on the hood. The car is bright blue and other people have reported this peeling paint problem with their blue cars. Windshield wipers are not efficient and leave streaks. I’ve replaced them and they work well for about a year only. The wipers must be purchased through the dealer. And now, at 33000 miles my dashboard display is black again, and battery is at 100% charge. I replaced the water pump ($1,000), but don’t know how to proceed with the compressor and black screen. Don’t know why dealer has high rating with aaa as I have had nothing but unpleasant interactions with them. Staff is rude and dismissive.

Unknown. On July 16, 2021 as I was about to enter my vehicle, I pulled open the driver door, and it scraped across my left calf. It definitely hurt, but I didn't think anything more of it. When I arrived at my destination I noticed a blood spot on my jeans. At that point there wasn't much I could do. So, when I got home (about 3-1/2 hours later) I looked at the wound (certainly not serious), put some disinfectant and a band aid on it. This was not the first time for this to happen. My greater concern is for children who may be standing too close to the vehicle when the door is pulled open. Thank you for your anticipated attention to this matter. Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to attach the photos that I took.

My car smells like a strong fume that is wanting to knock me out. I pharmacy something in the car that was wrapped in foil and the foil started crackling. Since then it looks like my car is pulling apart, and the suspensions shocks have gone out. When making turn it comes off as if the car is going to buckle under me.

The paint is pealing off.

The lower control arm is very loose. When we accelerate to low speeds (20-25mph) we hear a loud thumping noise that eventually stops when we get to higher speeds. Sometimes we have to let up off the throttle to make it stop and then reaccelerate. We looked underneath for the problem and we can physically shake the lower control arm.

I wrecked my car and the air bags didn't deployed the fire department was worried why they didn't the wreck totalled my Trax. I was a main highway.

As I was driving all the lights and pictures started to flash on the dash board. The car wheel didnt want to turn and hot very hard to steer. The service engine light keeps flashing on and off. Its riding crazy. It was in motion.

I have been sent a pretty egregious recall by gm. I made an appointment with the dealer I purchased the car from. Dealership told me they had to order the part. It's been a month. When I went to the dealership, they said the part was not in. Meanwhile, my friend had her recall fixed there. This is regarding a joint in one or both front lower control arms that can separate your tires from the vehicle. Pretty scary, but I am getting nowhere with the Chevrolet people. I call every day. How can you help me ?.

Suddenly starting to receive "hood open" warning while driving; hood is completely closed. When parked, alarm started to go off, to alert that hood is open while car is sitting in driveway; again, hood is completely closed.

Bought car on 6-26-2019 . While driving in city going slow seemed fine. Got on freeway car pulling off right side of road , have to hold consistent hold to the left on steering wheel while driving. Called salesman that night ,was told to bring car back next morning. Got there 9:00 am 7-27-2019 . They took it back and made me wait . They said they realigned it and rotated tires. Said to drive it 500 miles and see if it gets better. Drove 500 miles no change. Took it back on 7-5-2019. Dealership kept it 4 days. Said they test drove it and said it was road crown. Took it home no change. Took it to tire discounters on 8-16+2019 . Confirmed pulling to right. Said alignment is good but still has pull to right. Took it to jerry haggs gm dealership. They refused to check it. All this time the back doors don't shut flush and the seals leak the original dealership refused to do anything about the doors the car is now at mike castucci gm dealership in milford ohio it's been there since 9-5-2019. They are trying to replace the back door seals to try to flush doors with the body but hasn't checked front end yet. You have to hold the steering wheel to the left with a constant tug. Driving in rain is worse . Haven't owned car long enough to see what snow is like. The car was sitting in driveway during a rain storm when doors leaked. Car constantly drifts right while driving speed limit.

Bought car on 7-26-2019. Car drifting off the road to the right back doors don't shut flush water leaks . Car in shop 7-27-2019. No fix problem still the same. Back in shop 8-5-2019 to 8-8-2019. No improvement . Took car to another dealership on 9-5-2019 to 9-12-2019. Found door molding bad replaced them . Doors still not flush. Car is still pulling off the road to the right. Going back in shop on 9-23-2019 for same problem water leaks happen while sitting still pulling happens all the time no improvement.

Been at shop 4 times for steering problem. Can't keep car driving straight.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that the passenger side roof molding fractured. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who re-attached the molding piece, but the failure recurred three times. The roof molding became completely detached after the last failure. The contact called hoselton Chevrolet at 585-662-2800 (located at 909 fairport rd, east rochester, NY 14445) and was informed that the part needed to be ordered. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the warranty was expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.

I purchased my vehicle on November 22, 2017. I was in an accident on December 14, 2017 where I hit a dog and my car caught fire. The fire department and police didn't believe that I hit a dog and it caused this damage. I contacted gm to see if they would investigate but they told me they would not investigate unless my insurance contacted them and they also told me to read my manual on seatbelts when I let them know the airbags did not deploy. I believe whole heartedly that this car is unsafe if it caught on fire from hitting a dog and they dog was not large at all. Please be careful id considering this vehicle.

My radio stopped working and when I took it in they said the amplifier needed to be replaced because it got wet from water that had pooled in the wheel well due to a leak. They took the car to ss auto body and they found multiple leaks and have had my car for 24 days trying to identify them all.
