Electronic Stability Control Problems of Chevrolet Trax

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle had experienced a loss of motive power. The vehicle did not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. On several occasions the vehicle stalled while idling. Additionally, while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, with the stabili-trak message displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the turbo charger and exhaust flex pipe were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The first major repair I had with my vehicle happened shortly after I serviced it for it's regular oil change at the end of 2018. I notice my ac was going in and out and I checked my coolant, the reservoir was empty. When I made an appointment at the service department they discovered a leak under neath the turbo. In 2019 a valve was replaced that was sticking as "courtesy" at one of my oil changes. This year my vehicle stalled out on me at the gas station. I turned off my vehicle to pump gas and it wouldn't turn back over. When I finally got it to start again it was jerking very hard even while idling. It was difficult to get my vehicle running again. I got it to the dealership and they replaced the purge valve and I paid for an induction service since my vehicle is slowly approaching 50k. After a couple days of having my vehicle back I noticed my vehicle is still shifting very hard and is especially noticable in 30-50mph range, I drop my vehicle back off at the dealership 05/02/2020. The check engine light is not on it but, hey're getting a reading that there is a problem with the stability.

I've had nothing but problems from this engine. I bought brand new in 2016. 2017 I had to have the whole radio system replaced as it quit. 2018, I was driving and check engine light came on . Took to shop and two spark plugs and iginition coil was bad at 32,000 miles. 2019, engine light came on in June and I loss power, engine made high squeal noise and it was just sputtering. Took to shop and they said it was camshaft seal and cover so that was replaced and of course warranty was out. Just this month, Dec 2019, it started doing the same thing again and this time they said it was the camshaft cover again (which they would cover under shop warranty) and it was also the intake manifold and gasket. Which ended up costing me $500. For a car that is only 3 yrs old. I've paid out $1500 in repairs because for some reason it only happens as soon as warranty has expired. This is not right.

While driving the service stabilitrak light goes on, the engine will go from whatever speed I am going then lose acceleration completely and automatically jump back up to the speed I was going making the car jolt and the power steering freezes up for no reason. Once the power steering freezes the warning light will go on. The vehicle has been in the shop 3 times for this issue(11/27/19 12/14/19 & 4/23/20). The car is still at the dealership and they cant seem to figure out the issue.

On 11/23/19 I'm just leaving home early on Saturday morning and on timaquana rd while I was driving my 2016 Trax locked up on me and my Chevrolet Trax motor just stopped in the middle of the road , this could have been fatal and thank god I didn't get crushed in the middle of traffic. As I was driving all the lights and pictures started to flash on the dash board. The car wheel didnt want to turn and hot very hard to steer. The service engine light keeps flashing on and off. Its riding crazy. It was in motion.

Started 2015 chevy Trax in driveway and it started idling very rough. Car was working fine the previous day and had not been started / driven since. Left for work and car was jerking, loosing power and would not accelerate. Turned around and returned to house so dad could look at it and sister drove me to work in her car. Dad's comments: drove car to advanced auto parts, approx. 2 miles, where they checked the battery, starter and alternator. Battery / starter checked ok, alternator checked out as bad. *attempted* to drive back home and experienced same problems as daughter. Car was idling rough, was unable to accelerate, traction control light came on, check engine light came on. Pulled off the road, shut off car, waited a few moments and restarted. Check engine light stayed solidly on. Turned onto main highway and was unable to accelerate. Car started shaking and smell of burning oil was present. Check engine light was "flashing" since I was 1/4 mile or less from the house, I was able to limp the car home and called dealership. Vehicle was towed and is currently sitting at mcclusky Chevrolet in kings auto mall, which is where the car was purchased used in Jan 2019. Onstar sent 4 messages: one was service interlock braking system, two were regarding the traction control system and one was for the exhaust emissions system. Note: this is the 5th time the car has been taken in for major repairs since January 2019 (when purchased) and the 2nd time in 2 months it had to be towed in. Last time was Jul 29, 2019 for failing brakes. Others have reported these exact same issues here on the NHTSA. Gov site so there are obviously issues with the 2015 chevy Trax that gm is not addressing.

I've received two notices from gm, once that has an actual recall. Both notices were received after my 2017 Trax had been taken to the dealership for check-ups/repairs because of presenting symptoms of both issues of the notices/recall. The first being an evaporaive emissions purge valve that may not fully close, causing the engine to run cold, hesitate or stall at idle speeds. I experienced idling and jerking when my car was in lower gears, jerking so badly, with running in high rpms. I did not know if I would make it home and had to drive with my hazards on. This was experienced on sept. 2, 2019 (labor day) and I had my car towed from my parking garage to the dealership on sept. 4th, 2019. They could not replicate the problem or address it and were not aware of the notice gm had sent out. They did find a tear in some arm on the vehicle, caused by a defective ball bearing which was replaced but unrelated to why it was there. Late October, I experienced other issues with clicking on my breaking system, with my stabilitrack and check engine lights turning on, but then off when I went in reverse. At this time, I knew about the recall (# a192261870) and brought my car back in on Nov. 1, 2019. Again they couldn't "replicate" the issue, but inspected the car with regards to the recall and returned it with no immediate resolution. They ordered a speed-control part and all the recall parts. It's now December 4 and they still do not have the replacement control arms & the bolts that go with them (page Chevrolet service dept; alexandria, va 22312; 703-349-4011. My vehicle continues to have braking/idling/spudering issues on occasion, it is not constant. I have had to call regularly to get updates, and have attempted to call Chevrolet's customer assistance center to open an inquiry but am getting the run around of rover a month. I do not consider this timely.

Bought car on 7-26-2019. Car drifting off the road to the right back doors don't shut flush water leaks . Car in shop 7-27-2019. No fix problem still the same. Back in shop 8-5-2019 to 8-8-2019. No improvement . Took car to another dealership on 9-5-2019 to 9-12-2019. Found door molding bad replaced them . Doors still not flush. Car is still pulling off the road to the right. Going back in shop on 9-23-2019 for same problem water leaks happen while sitting still pulling happens all the time no improvement.

Been at shop 4 times for steering problem. Can't keep car driving straight.

Service stabili trak warning and engine light came on with no prior warning. The vehicle would not reset, have to take it in for service. The roads and conditions were completely fair. No improper use of vehicle to cause these error lights. Vehicle engine sounds horrible and handles terribly.

Chevy sucks. Bought my 2016 chevy Trax in September 2015. It's been well maintained. At the 59,000 mile mark, the steering wheel locks up and the engine powers down with no warning, esc lights comes on and the car loses acceleration. Took it to 1 dealer who keeps it for 4 weeks when they figure it's a module. I brought it to my regular mechanic who has a relationship with another chevy dealer so I could save on labor, they have it for another 4 weeks. And still with the savings, it cost me $1120 for this repair on top of the $218 I paid for the original diagnostic. I finally get the car back, have it for a day and it's the same problem! they replaced the battery, and still the problem is still occurring and the dealer cannot figure out what is wrong. This is chevy's crappy product! nothing in the normal wear and tear of car ownership should have me shelling out all this money when I bought it brand new and have had it for 3 1/2 years. I've made 3 car payments in the last 90 days and still don't have a car to drive. I will never buy a chevy again!.

I was driving on a suburban road and my engine light, and stabilitrak light came on and it was suddenly driving as though I was on huge boulders and rock and shaking and having a difficult time gasing. I had to get it towed and barely made it home a couple miles away. The dealor mechanic said my cars driveshaft broke, only after 25k miles. Then less than a year later I am driving on a flat road normal conditions and my engine light is on and its driving rough, having a difficult time getting gas it felt like. Come to find out the coil pack was misfiring. The coil pack was corroded and burnt out. The spark plugs in turn were no good. My car was leaking gas and was running on 3 fuel injectors as the 4th was broken. This occurred right before or at 40k miles! it has been to the mechanic shop 6 times in 2 months. I bought it brand new.

While driving at around 40 miles the 2016 chevy Trax loss power to 5-10 mph, the steering wheel got stiff, the transmission and engine got idle. I took it to the chevy dealer. For fortune I was not driving in the highway. I am very concern as I don't feel this car is safe to drive. The car has currently 38k miles, I bought it used with little under 36k miles. I noticed about 7-8 similar complains is different websites. I think somebody from NHTSA should look at this issue. Driving a car with these problems can result in major accidents and potentially death.

Power steering, traction control system, and check engine light came on while vehicle was stationary. And steering column locked up. After 20 minutes the power steering and traction control lights went off. Check engine light was read and p069e code was read back. After 4 days the check engine light went off on its own.

This car is been having problems since months of me buying it frustrated just beacause have to be alot in the dealer and long hours waiting.

On August 30, 2017 I recieved an alert from onstar (via email) stating my 2016 Chevrolet Trax (with 14,000 miles on it) was having numerous safety issues. That same day, I drove my Trax on the highway on my way home from work and it stalled out twice while going 70 mph almost to a complete stop in rush hour traffic. It continued to sputter the entire drive home, and my check engine light was flashing. I got it home, then the next day drove it to a dealership for repair. While driving it there, the vehicle was struggling to operate, and barely pushing 1000 rpm. It felt as though it would stall again if I accelerated too quickly.
