Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Chevrolet Trax - part 1

Driving on a main road on news year eve on my way home from work in a snow storm, my vehicle decides to only drive 9mph or less indicating that it has gone into limp mode. Unable to go up hills of any incline caused panic from the drivers around me. Luckily I was able to pull into a parking lot and sit and call for help. My vehicle was showing a code for the accelerator pedal position sensor indicating an issue with the voltage difference between the app and the throttle position sensor. The computer was able to be reset and my car then drove fine but the next day, it did it again. And without the scanner being plugged in the entire time, my car was not drivable.

The manual parking brake system (hand lever) failed to adequately restrain the vehicle when fully engaged. The component is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk because the vehicle failed to remain securely parked with the parking brake fully engaged. If parked on an incline, this defect creates a risk of the vehicle rolling and causing an accident. Additionally, a fully functional parking brake is a critical emergency braking backup system, which is compromised by this malfunction. I have not gotten to a dealer to get it checked yet. There was a warning light eventually. After a couple of times, I pushed on the accelerator once I realized the parking brake was on. I turned it off. It was only when I noticed it was a bit jankey when attempting to reverse is when I noticed it.

When putting shell premium gas I noticed my cars rmps is way lower than usually and my acceleration is a lot slower/delayed I never had this problem when I put regular and midgrade (plus) gas furthermore I noticed I got a weird b3935 error check code but I don’t think that’s related to the gas though.

Had to have the turbobooster on a 2017 chevy Trax LS replaced under 120,000 miles $3722 was the cost of repair.

The contact’s parents owned a 2018 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while a parent was driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the accelerator pedal was also simultaneously depressed the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The failure caused the contact’s parent to veer off the side of the road, which caused the vehicle to roll over several times before landing on a construction vehicle. The contact stated that all the air bags deployed during the rollover. The contact’s parent suffered several injuries and was taken to a local emergency room. The contact’s parents suffered back, neck, and rib injuries. The contact stated that a police report was filed; however, the report number was not provided to the contact. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was deemed destroyed. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

The vehicle check engine light came on. Engine light is for a repair to the turbo charger. After looking online I noticed some of the 2017 and 2018 chevy Trax cars are afftected however the VIN for my car is not included. I want to report the problem to see if my car can be checked to see if it's a faulty part.

The contact owned a 2025 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated while driving 35 mph with cruise control mode disengaged, and approaching the red traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the vehicle responded temporarily, and then the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he shifted to park(p) in the hope that the vehicle would stop, but the vehicle failed to stop and the engine revved louder, causing the vehicle to crash into two occupied vehicles in the intersection of a highway. The air bags deployed. It was unknown whether there was a warning light illuminated after the crash. The contact sustained injuries and the emergency units transported the contact to the hospital, where he underwent a CT scan. The contact was informed that he had sustained two broken ribs. The contact was hospitalized for two weeks, and the contact was admitted to a rehabilitation center for a week and a half. One of the other drivers sustained three broken ribs, but it was unknown whether the driver received medical assistance. No further information was available. The vehicle was towed and totaled. The two other vehicles were totaled. A police report was filed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

The touch screen on the front dashboard and the interior lights get so hot sometimes that you cannot touch them. Definitely an electrical issue causing both of those issues. Part of the air vent next to the touch screen has actually melted from the heat! also, you cannot drive with the air conditioner on. The car gets no power at all. Just to go 30 mph, you have to go all the way up to almost 5 rpms. The only way to cancel this out is to pull over, turn the car off and than back on (with no ac on). All summer long it has been doing this… possibly a transmission issue. I’ve personally only owned the vehicle for 2 yrs and the year of the car is a 2020, so there’s no reason it should be doing this. There is no exact date. It happens all the time, so I’ll just put the beginning of the spring.

I had the car diagnosed and this is the issue.

Truck has code p0299. Turbo underboost. Reduced acceleration, lack of power, and a check engine light.

I turned on the vehicle and the check engine light came on blinking* for the first time. The traction control light also came on after a few minutes of driving. About a minute later, the vehicle began to slow from 40 to a near-complete stop in the middle of a busy road. No blinking lights or alerts. I pulled the vehicle into a parking lot and parked. The vehicle began shaking slightly. I turned off the vehicle for about 15 minutes or so and was able to drive back home with the check engine light still on. I called to have the vehicle towed to a dealership.

Stabilitrak keeps coming on along with 3 other warning lights. I lose speed driving is off and it's hard to maneuver. Had 3 tests ran no response lights went off. Then back on on a consistency that is getting annoying and now 3 shops can't diagnosis whats wrong. I don't have thousands to send to dealership for what was supposed to be a brand new car and this is driving like it's a 25 year old car. I think you need to check that a majority of your Trax 2020 customers are also experiencing the same and this issue needs to be a recall. Especially since mechanics can't diagnos this.

On tues 11/19/24, my son left home about 10 mins prior headed back to school in our 2024 chevy Trax purchased in 5/2023. On his way to school, he and his friend heard a loud pop sound, followed by all the lights on the instrument panel flickering like crazy, smoke coming from under the hood, and then the car slowing to a stop, still in the road. Luckily they were able to get out because all the doors, except the driver door, locked including the trunk. The smoke got worse until it caught on fire. Good samaritans stopped to help my 17 yo son and his friend and there was an off duty responder that turned around to put out the fire with the extinguisher he had on him, ahead of the fire department arriving on scene. This could have been very detrimental and had a very different outcome and gm/chevy need to make sure this doesn’t happen to another family. This car was serviced and had very low mileage of less than 12k in 1. 5years.

My car’s engine started to get loud one day and would run roughly as I drive. I got it check and the service center couldn’t find the issue as the car was good on all its fluids and there weren’t any leaks anywhere. Then some days passed and my vehicle started to slow down drastically on a highway (speed limit of 65) and my car would struggle to accelerate and so I was forced to switch from the middle lanes on the left to the lane all the way in the right, it was very difficult to do so as cars were passing me at high speeds. My car was struggling to accelerate and the engine started running rough. The engine light then came on. So I got it checked ant a local service center and I was told my turbocharger had to be replaced as it malfunctioned somehow. I can’t drive my car as it would be traveling way below the speed limit. I did not bring it to my dealer yet.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the codes were cleared, and the electrical system was updated. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. While driving, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to another local dealer, shakopee Chevrolet (1206 1st Ave. E. , shakopee, mn 55379). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Power steering locks up while driving, service stabilitrack warning comes on, transmission drops and car will not drive, car will not reverse.

Water has been pooling in the wheel well under trunk of my car undetected due to the covering overlap. Water has been leaking due to the rain from outside in. My back seats were wet, my spare tire was flooded, and a smell has began to set in my car. My cars speed has been slower to increase which can put my response time to dangerous situations slower. I have an appointment on the 10th of January to have my car looked at and I have began a claim with Chevrolet. No warning signs were made present. I had cleaned out a few gallons of water from my trunk last night and again this morning my car was filling up with water due to the rainy season. This website is not letting me upload files.

The affected component is the design of the cruise control engagement button, and yes it is available for inspection. While the vehicle is below a certain (unknown) speed, if the cruise control engagement button is pressed, the cruse control engages at a relatively high rate of speed, and the vehicle lurches forward. This is especially problematic due to the design of the switch, which is a protruded lever-type mechanism that is easily swiped while the steering wheel turns. Due to this design, a significant risk is posed for injury and fatal accidents. I have had several instances where this has occurred and I was forced to react quickly to avoid an accident. And I've only owned the vehicle for 9 months. This problem seems to be inherent in the design, and is likely reproducible on any 2024 chevy Trax, and perhaps other chevy models with the same design. This vehicle has never been inspected. There are no warning lamps or other symptoms, besides the design of the cruise control system. This has happened since I bought the car brand new from the dealership.

Numerous problems with engine overheating light coming on, leaking coolant, going up hill, car hesitate, car shakes at times.

Just financed this car on the 18th of February the engine light is constantly coming on and staying on now also the stable light keeps popping on the car is sputtering and shaking and can barely get up speed when driving it's making a funny noise.

The issues with the car happen when attempting to go over 40mph. After maybe 10-15min of driving, if attempting to go over 40mph, the car starts making a clinking sound, a lot of exhaust smoke comes out the back and there is a general inability to accelerate without the engine sputtering which even happened at lower speeds once it has already started to happen. The check engine light come on when this occurs. Our safety does seem to be at risk as we cannot seem to keep up with traffic speeds and would likely cause an accident if we remain on the road while the car is exhibiting these conditions. After I told the dealership about how long in driving it takes to recreate the problem, the dealership that currently holds the car(jennings Chevrolet in glenview, IL) were able to reproduce the problem. My parents and I went on Feb 16th, 2023 to napleton Hyundai in glenview and bought the car used and after 2 days of driving, my parents were having issues with the car and being able to accelerate. At the time it was diagnosed as a catalytic converter and flex pipe problem. Those items were backordered and were not able to be replaced until 2 months after our original complaint. During those 2 months of waiting, my parents were instructed not to take the highway and not to exceed 40mph. Upon getting the car back on April 26th, it took merely 4-5 more days for the problems to come back again. We also found that on Dec 17th, 2022, the previous owner took the car in with the same problems and after getting an estimate, declined service and took the car back Dec 28th, 2022. The vehicle has been looked at by napleton Hyundai in glenview, jennings chevy in glenview and prior to our ownership, anderson chevy in chicago. Anytime the vehicle exhibits the above mentioned problems, the check engine light does come on and usually in addition to the issues listed above, the car seems to be low/out of oil. At this time, we are told the cars issue is the turbo.

2017 Chevrolet Trax mileage 35,703 November 20, 2022 ( second incident)while driving 50 mph on a highway, I lost power steering, acceleration, and dashboard instruments( speedometer & tach) failed. Dashboard message advised of loss of power steering. I was able to drive about one mile before I could safely pull to the side of the road and after stopping the issue resolved itself but check engine light came on but turned off within a 24 hour period. Later found out my son had experienced the same issue with my car one month earlier. December 6 th- took it to dealer who could not replicate the problem and was unable to provide explanation or solution. This was a frightening safety issue- luckily there was not a lot of traffic when the problem occurred. I am very concerned about driving this car and having this happen again.

You be driving down the road in the vehicle will make you feel like you hit somebody which is a big safety issue and the vehicle only has 42,000 miles on it should not be doing that this is a safety issue and needs to be resolved and fix my Chevrolet.

The vehicle looses power and jerks like the transmission is failing. It happens almost always when when going up a hill and also if the air conditioner is turned on the car can barely get out of its own way. I've almost been hit or rear ended several times trying to merge onto the highway because the car is jerking and barely wanting to move. I have now come to the point that I have to turn the ac off in a brand new car for for my own safety and to be able to get up to a normal speed when merging onto the highway. It has been doing this since I first got it but I didn't think there was really much I could do about it. I plan to call the dealer as well to have them look at it. There have never been any warning lights or any diagnostic issues detected but believe me a problem is there! ive recently learned that the issues im having with the jerking and barely any power when trying to accelerate has been a big issue in the Trax since 2016. And I can confirm its still happening! there were also a few instances with a warning light on the dash and it will tell me it can't detect something in the key and I couldn't start the car until I was able to get it to read properly after a few tries of removing the key. If my vehicle is needed for inspection, it is available at anytime!.

Traveling about 25 mph I took my foot off the accelerator and tried to slow down but the gas pedal was stuck and the brakes were very hard to stop I actually had to throw it in neutral to make it come to a stop our thoughts were gas pedal was still at accelerating when I wanted to stop.

The digital information center goes off and on randomly. This has been reported in forums but no resolution.

Driving in cold weather. . . The car just completely had no power when pressing gas pedal. . . Seems line fuel system froze or turbo freeze. . . . . Car then shut off with no check engine light. . . No warning light!! started right back up and still had no acceleration. . . . . Very upset with this vehicle and no recalls. . . . . Ive seen many post's with this same issue!!.

I brought this car as is bical auto mall. (the dealership), I took the car to get checked out the first time and it had a weak battery and I had to constantly get a boost to drive my car 2 weeks later I was advised to go to a gm dealer because my engine light was on, the mechanic explained something was wrong with the valve and it was a leakage. A few day later my engine light turned on again and I had the same problem but only this time the car started surging and stalling out every time I stopped. I returned to the gm dealer again & the problem is still ongoing.

My car loses power and will not accelerate up hills, in the cold on the freeway in the morning (6:00am pst). Check engine light comes on. It has been to the shop 6 times since Feb. 2019 for the same issue of check engine light comes on, loss of power, emissions-air leaks which cause loss of power. I will have to upload documents at a later date as I do not have them today. Sending car back to Chevrolet dealership for another check engine light, loss of power on the freeway while passing a slow moving truck.

When the car was in motion and I was trying to turn it would go. All the lights came on the dash board and this is not the first time it did this. This is unsafe and help is needed!.

Vehicle accelerated when brakes were applied combing to a stop light.

Vehicle was at highway speed when systems began to fail and vehicle abruptly lost acceleration. Warning lights and messages began to appear abruptly without warning. Rpm, and mph digital dial/ number jumped to 0 and back up to a random speed and then back down to 0. Accelerator pedal did not have any bearing on speed control. Uncontrolled stalling at highway speed without any warning. Vehicle was driven off active roadway at next available exit and parked. Vehicle maintained error codes. Dealer contacted for tow. After waiting for tow and engine off, all error codes cleared. Driven to dealer and currently in service. Vehicle fairly new and repair under warranty. Problem uncertain but technician pointed to a grounding problem. Error lights during incident: power steering warning light (steady on), tcs/stabilitrak warning light (steady on) and check engine light (steady on). Plus, vehicle service messages: service power steering and service stabilitrak. I have taken pictures of the instrument cluster. Cluster errors began around 13:42 est and cleared around 15:42 est after parking and cutting engine off for some time (maybe 20 minutes) then restarting. Also, �. � in place of �p� in bottom right corner next to odometer reading. Also, after initially parking and the first restart, power steering seemed completely inactive.

Experienced severe mechanical issues, such as the engine overheating, temperature gauge breaking, coolant system malfunctioning, battery having to be replace twice, brakes overheating, brakes unable to come to a full stop, brakes squeaking, vehicle squeaking when backing up, throttle jumping, and the stability track also breaking.

When I first purchase the car it was fine a couple of months later my tires started to buckle when there was no snow because the car would slippery on the dash board. . Also the speed of the great couple months later it would not pick up speed.
