Tl- the contact owned a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the charging system failure warning message would flash on the instrument panel as the vehicle would simultaneously reduce its power. Soon after the warning light dissipated, the vehicle would resume normal driving operation. The contact then stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle began to emit a black smoke from the engine without warning. As the contact began to make a left turn, a flame ignited from the driver side of the engine and the contact immediately parked and exited the vehicle. The contact then called the authorities and the fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed at the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of fire. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was destroyed. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 189,363.

My 2007 chevy Uplander has become unsafe. Multiple mechanics have given different guesses as to what the problem may be. When driving, if I stop at a stop sign or red light, or even during stop-go traffic, the van will suddenly jerk when I go to accelerate. Sometimes the jerk is incredibly forceful as if I have been hit from behind. Two mechanics have recommended a complete transmission replacement but say that they have had similar complaints from other owners of the same make/model vehicle. Because the van does this, it is hard to accelerate immediately from a stopping point. This causes unsafe driving/traffic conditions as I can not be certian my van will immediately accelerate when needed.
My van hesitates between 2 and 3 rpm's. Especially going up a hill, the engine light will blink for a few seconds. Then engine light continues to stay on. . The drivers side door is malfunctioning. . Wheel bearing in the rear need replacement. . And there does appear to be an electrical issue. . Radio skips, interior lights don't work at all. . The drivers side seat doesn't heat. Theres barely any heat even when gauge reads the engine is normally warm. .

I purchased this vehicle from a private owner on 2/14/14. The dashboard lights do not work which is a problem at night, which means I can only drive it during the day and without it lighting up there are no codes available. I do not know how fast I am going on the highway, or if I am low on fuel, or in any other kind of danger. One evening I was on my way home from a family members house at night and it was raining and I was so afraid. I had no lights on the dashboard, so I had no idea how fast I was going. Also, a new battery was put in the van on 2/14/14, and on 2/17/14 the entire vehicle died on me in the hospital parking garage. I had to have it towed to a repair shop. They said that the battery was not supporting the electrical system in the car, even though it was the battery that was recommended by the vehicle manual. I travel a lot with my church and am so afraid that this vehicle is going to leave me stranded on the highway or worst. The wheels at times seem as though they are about to come off. I put two brand new tires on it when I purchased it. The tire company said the other two were okay, so why does it shake and feel as though they are coming off? the sliding door on the driver side does not open, and the radio lighting works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I was told not to use the radio because it causes the battery to run down. . . There are just too many problems with this fairly new vehicle. I am concerned about having an accident when the car suddenly shuts off, or the dashboard suddenly stops working in a rain storm or at night when I cannot see, or worst, being involved in an accident and trapped because the only way out is the passenger door on the driver's side that doesn't work. . . Or the wheels coming off while driving at 70 mph. A recall of this vehicle is definitely needed!.

I was driving to work and the service traction control system flashed on the screen followed by a message saying reduced engine power. Then the engine bogged down. I pulled over and shut the vehicle off and waited about 30 seconds. Started up and it was fine, messages and engne back to normal. However, it gives that message and the engine bogs down almost everytime I drive the vehicle. Most of the time twice each trip. Sometimes its snowy but sometimes the roads are completely clean and dry.
Several times now I have received a reduced engine power message, as well as periodic service stability trak and service abs. This seems to happen when I make a tight turn or hit a rough patch in the road. The most recent time this happened, I could not get rid of the reduced engine power and consequent reduced speed. I felt that it was dangerous to drive the van to the dealer so I had it towed. Now they cannot replicate the problem. I am scared to drive it until I am assured that it is fixed. I can see online that many gm cars seem to have this problem, yet when I called the gm customer support line, she was not able to find a bulletin or recall for this issue. This is dangerous - I am so worried that this will happen on the highway.

Engine cut off with result of loss of power steering and brakes. It happened and continues to happen in wet road condition, especially when going through the smallest of puddles. Resulting loss of any control over vehicle. Engine has kicked back on after a few seconds of uncontrollable coasting. So far I have avoided an accident. But now I do not drive this vehicle in rain or threat of rain.
The vehicle will not heat the interior cabin when the engine is at idle. This causes the windshield to fog or fail to defrost and the passengers to be cold and uncomfortable and distracted while driving. This problem is common among Uplander vans.
My van will cut off while sitting still in park and also when I try to crank it sometimes it won't crank and then if it does it will cut back off.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. When the ice begins to defrost in the winter, it falls directly onto the windshield and hinders visibility. As a result, a crash could occur. The contact stated that the ice should roll off the sides of the vehicle. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The failure mileage was 12 and current mileage was 12,000. Updated 11/24/08 the consumer also stated the vehicle cut off while making a turn. Updated 11/26/08.
