Failure Date: 12/16/2019

Less than 150,00 miles we needed a brake job done on our van and was told by the repair shop and I quote"the vehicle is so rotted and needs to be junked. The brakes are not unsafe. It seems to me that my 1995 chevy c1500 would have fallen apart a long time ago. I have over 250,000 miles on it.

4 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

On 05/31/2016 called Chevrolet to ask why stability control light went on when going over a bump in road. 06-02-2016 called local dealership about stability light problem, was told that is was a loose connection most likely. After looking online, we ignored the light. On August 28, 2017 we brought the Uplander into another dealership for an estimate on the fuel service. That evening when we went to pick the van up, the service tech said that the transmission was "gone". He gave an estimate on a new transmission. We had been driving the van without problems but for losing power going up hills, that's why we wanted the fuel service, previously that was the problem. We have serviced this vehicle all the time from when we purchased in December of 2008. When we picked the van up we didn't make it more than 4 blocks when it stopped moving. Now the transmission mechanic says the transmission has overheated and needs a complete rebuild for $2,600. 00. Online the chevy forum says that the module goes and the transmission overheats destroying the transmission, but also states a light comes on. This light has not come on if its not the stability control light.

5 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

Clicking, squeaky, clunky noises in rear suspension. There is a jerk at 20mph, as you drive it keeps jerking as you pick up speed. Stability control system light keeps coming on even after I changed the wheel bearing.

6 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Transmission has shifted hard occasionally. Now the transmission when shifting from first to second delays the shift almost as if it is in neutral. Eventually it finds seconds and continues driving fine. Chevy dealer says "everything is within specs" but to replace the "possible problem" part it is $2000 plus. I have read hundreds of other complains about the same issues. However no recall to be seen.

9 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

This van has fairly low mileage when the transmission stopped working as we drove on the highway. It was a busy highway and we just barely managed to get off the road. We were so lucky we were not hit by other cars when this happened. The mechanic said the inside sheered off inside the transmission. He showed us the parts (which I still have as proof of the issue that is a problem of gm. ). The parts were weak and just ripped apart. Luckly we were not hurt, but this could have been catastrophic. It cost $3800 to repair, and the car was only 2 months out of warranty. Chevy was very uncooperative in getting help.

10 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 09/28/2013

I am at a stop light and put my foot on the gas to go when the light changed and it wouldn't go. The car was sputtering , shaking really hard . . . I was able to eventually get home. Now I can't even drive the car my Uplander at all because the transmission is out completely. The dealer verified it is the transmission. They are taking it apart to see exactly what went wrong inside the transmission. My powertrain warranty just expired July 31st of this year. I feel that at 55k miles , this is a manufactuar's issue. They must have put a bad transmission in the Uplander from the beginning. I feel they should take ownership and make it right. I have 4 kids and need my van to pick them up and so I can get to work. I don't have a lot of money for a huge repair when I trusted that Chevrolet was a good reliable car maker.

11 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

My transmission is starting to stutter at high speeds I was told by two different mechanics that this is a common problem and I shouldn't have to pay for it! that chevy knows about it and should fix the problem as a recall! I owe way too much on the van to put 3000 dollars into a transmission overhaul because of a problem that they knew about a while ago but did not recall it!.

12 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 09/15/2012

Engine cut off with result of loss of power steering and brakes. It happened and continues to happen in wet road condition, especially when going through the smallest of puddles. Resulting loss of any control over vehicle. Engine has kicked back on after a few seconds of uncontrollable coasting. So far I have avoided an accident. But now I do not drive this vehicle in rain or threat of rain.

13 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 05/20/2012

A driver parked her vehicle such that the rear of her vehicle was facing downhill. She thought she placed the vehicle in park and turned the ignition off. She left the key in the ignition and began to clean the interior of the vehicle from the front passenger side. Her two year old son was standing on the driver¿s seat. While she was cleaning the interior, she heard a ¿click and the vehicle began to roll backwards. She was unable to stop the vehicle from rolling backwards. She was injured by stationary objects located outside and along the path of the moving vehicle. A review of the operation of the gear shift lever found the following: in this vehicle, it was possible to position the gear shift lever between the park and reverse positions. In this intermediate position, the gear shift lever engaged the parking pawl in the transmission system which prevented the vehicle from moving. However, the gear shift lever was not locked in position, and the lever was movable. A force was necessary to overcome the resistance holding the lever in the intermediate position. The force could have been caused by lever contact or vehicle jostling. The lever moved, and the parking pawl released the wheels allowing the vehicle to move. In normal park mode, the operator may place the gear shift lever in park and the lever will lock. In order to take the vehicle out of park, the ignition key needs to be in either the accessory or run position and the brake pedal must be depressed. A driver may then move the unlocked gear shift lever out of park. The vehicle cannot be taken out of park without first intentionally depressing the brake pedal. It was possible to bypass this process in this vehicle. The gear shift lever could be placed in an intermediate position between park and reverse where the wheels were locked, but the lever was not locked.

14 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 02/04/2012

I was hit from behind on February 4, 2012 on campcreek pkwy in college park GA, because my vehicle stalled when I pressed the gas to take off from the red light, it clunks when making turns, it sounds as if something is loose on the front end, and has made these sounds since I've had it, I have had to repair the brakes frequently, the vehicle stalls when driving on the highway, the temperature gauge goes up and down, the transmission stalls. The dash light sometimes goes out, it runs out of gas when parked on an incline.

15 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The vehicle will hesitate to take off after engaging a forward gear. Sometimes it will take off normally, sometimes it will shudder and buck before, or while attempting to go, and sometimes it will just sit there and do nothing but increase the engine rpms, when the rpms are back to normal it might take off or it might not. The transmission has been serviced, fluid change, not sure if the dealership changed the filter.

16 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 06/07/2010

I purchased my 2007 chevy Uplander van in 02/2010. If you are stopped and go to take off, the transmission will jerk into gear, so severely at times that it feels as if you have been hit in the rear end. In 06/2010, not completely sure of the mileage (getting that info from dealer who couldn't find the problem) I took it back to the chevy dealer I bought it at and they said it was the Cadillac converter, they changed that but I still have the problem. Now my manufacturer warranty has run out and the problem is so bad that I took it to another dealer and the said I need a complete new transmission. The input clutch is leaking internally. Now it is at a cost of $3200. 00 to fix. This is a real problem and needs to be address. I have family members with the same type of chevy Uplander only it is a 2004? and they are dealing with the same problem.

17 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 04/20/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander. He stated that intermittently the brakes and traction control activated; which caused the engine to shut off. He was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired six times; however, the repairs have not remedied the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 61,000 and the current mileage was 68,000.

18 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

I own a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander which displays a "service engine light" when driving in rain or snow, on trips more than an hour in length. This problem has occurred on more than twelve occasions, and has been taken to three dealers under warranty for repair. Diagnoses include wrong gas cap, wiring harness short circuit, maf failure, fuel injector fouling, air filter blockage, etc. None of these diagnoses have proven correct, and the problem still exists. The last dealer I took it to told me the problem isn't serious, "the engine light just means that it doesn't meet smog requirements. " my state requires echeck before I can register the vehicle, which means that I can't get tags for the vehicle when they expire this year. General motors refuses to consider any other options for resolving the problem. They have told me I have to go back to the dealer 50, 100 times, as many as necessary to fix the problem. I cannot continue to take time off work and lose use of the car if they cannot fix it. I have made at least twelve trips for these two problems and despite general motors opinion, I think that is more than reasonable opportunity to fix the car. I also have a noise in the suspension which poses a safety risk but does not prevent me from registering the car. They have also been unable to fix this problem or determine the source.
