Vehicle wont start at times: after driving for an hour or so and making several stops such as shopping starter will not engage opening the hood to allow motor to cool down seems to help. Trying to start vehicle takes up to 15 to 25 tries. All battery connections seem to be secure. Starter was replaced thinking that was the problem, but the problem continues. Other issues power steering leaking from under carriage. Problems started shortly after I bought the vehicle February 2019.

And this year on 03/05/15 I have the same lights appear on my screen again (abs & traction control) and I did the same thing took to Chevrolet dealer (jim barnard) the tech diagnose the same issues occur again. I refuse too have them fix and would like gm start recall all 2008 chevy Uplander due to hub/bearing assembly and wiring harness problems since the cost of fixing these issues are between $650 - $700. Is pretty expensive for person that live on paycheck by paycheck each week.

A deer ran across the road. In an effort to avoid a collision, my wife swerved but the vehicle began to spin around and she could not control it by counter steering. My wife struck a post sideway on driver side. The vehicle was declared a total lost by California insurance who has the vehicle.
This last October 2012, I had an opportunity to drive my wife's vehicle and noticed a floating sensation in the steering when driving straight making it somewhat difficult to maintain lane position due to over steering back and forth when trying to compensate for float. I then noticed a clunking sound when turning the steering wheel to the left or right when stopped and at slower speeds. I took the car to my mechanic he said that it seemed to be the steering intermediate shaft. I then brought the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer we bought it from to have them inspect it. They confirmed it was the shaft. I was told that the part was around $350. I then contacted gm headquarters questioning the safety of this problem and was told that this is a normal wear and tear item and they would not be able to provide any assistance with the repair. This is the first vehicle of owning many various manufacturers has ever had this issue. Are intermediate steering shafts normal wear and tear parts? does this part need to fail and cause a fatal accident before a recall is necessary??? recently Toyota recalled millions of their vehicles with similar problems.
When driving my Uplander the steering wheel has locked while I was turning. System charging failure light has appeared. Service center tested alternator and everything they could think of and were unable to figure out why steering wheel is locking while driving the vehicle. I was informed to drive the Uplander back to the dealership if it locks again. I am unsure how I'm suppose to drive it with the steering locked. I have had it lock numerous times while at an intersection. I have to put the vehicle in park and turn it off then wait a few minutes. When vehicle is restarted the steering wheel will then turn. I asked chevy service dept about the safety issue and they stated I could rent a car for $35. 00 a day but they couldn't tell me when or if they could solve the problem. Unfortunately I only have one vehicle so I must continue to drive the Uplander and pray I will not be injured in an accident or anyone else. I also had problems with the abs brakes and traction control coming on while driving. I had to take it to the dealership several times. They kept telling me they could not find a problem and reset the controls. The abs and traction got so bad when I took it in the last time they deemed my Uplander unsafe to drive and refused to give it to me. 1 month later they changed out the electrical box and returned it to me. When I read the paperwork on the repairs they stated the passengerside airbag had been replaced.
Engine cut off with result of loss of power steering and brakes. It happened and continues to happen in wet road condition, especially when going through the smallest of puddles. Resulting loss of any control over vehicle. Engine has kicked back on after a few seconds of uncontrollable coasting. So far I have avoided an accident. But now I do not drive this vehicle in rain or threat of rain.
This is the 4th time the vehicle shuts off in the middle of turning.
I was hit from behind on February 4, 2012 on campcreek pkwy in college park GA, because my vehicle stalled when I pressed the gas to take off from the red light, it clunks when making turns, it sounds as if something is loose on the front end, and has made these sounds since I've had it, I have had to repair the brakes frequently, the vehicle stalls when driving on the highway, the temperature gauge goes up and down, the transmission stalls. The dash light sometimes goes out, it runs out of gas when parked on an incline.
On December 15, 2011, a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander was driven on a side street at approximately 25 mph. Without warning, the wheel jerked out of the driver's hand and the vehicle struck a parked vehicle and came to a stop. No one was injured. A forensic engineering investigation revealed that the failure of the right steering knuckle was the sole cause of this incident. The part number on the front of the bottom portion of the steering knuckle is "intermediate 0472 98 u/w r". The casting number on the rear of the bottom portion of the steering knuckle is "0800 561 220". Nhtsa campaign id number: 09e005000 refers to failure of steering knuckles manufactured by dorman products, inc. This recall states that, "a potential material or design defect could result in the steering knuckle breaking in the hub area. " the hub area is also the area where the intermediate steering knuckle fractured in this incident.

Ignition switch will not start engine periodically. . . Stuck in key switch. Have to start vehicle inbetween drive and neutral. Have to roll backwards in vehicle while trying to get gear in drive can only park with vehicle front end at upward slant or vehicle will not start at all. Abs light on and off all the time. Do not know if Uplander van is a suburban or not, so not sure if on list provided on this form. This been going on for years, and I was told it was a known problem by others, but have not had the ability to get it fixed purchase vehicle in pinehurst north carolina thank you.
1st the check engine light keeps coming on and when put on diagnostic code came back po463. The van wouldn't pass emissions and when you fill up with has it would say it was empty. There's a loud popping noise sounds like at axle. It does this after you stop at red lights. I was told this had to do with axle and could break and cause fatal accident, the abs light keeps coming on and the braking system scared me to death. The doors constantly chime or ding and the doors will open going down the road. I was so upset because I have to transport my elderly aunt and and two children and before I was about to pay to have all this fixed I decided to check out recall. I am so shocked that you can look this up online and they are 1000 documented complaints on all the same problems but yet no recalls. Is it gonna take people getting killed to do this. Im praying for something less tragic and trying to save these precious lives. There is research and lawsuits that the Chevrolet Uplanders have alot of these problems from 2005 to 2008 especially with the doors and like me everyone gets annoyed and unplugs them and have to use them manually but why should we when are still paying for automatic doors. This van is truly unsafe and a lemon. I pray to god everyday to keep me safe while driving and have told my husband if I die while driving this vehicle he should sue!!!.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. While the contact was backing out of his driveway at an unknown speed, he heard a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the steering shaft needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 20,000. Updated 07/14/09 updated 07/16/09.
There has been several times I will be driving and with no warning the steering locks up and it makes a noise like the traction control does when it comes on and its like I am slamming on the breaks but I am not. I took it to a certified chevy technician three times now and I am taking it back tomorrow for a fourth time. I have two children and it is very dangerous I feel it should be investigated and recalled before some one gets hurt or worse dies. I also replaced the sensor. That did not do a thing other than cost me a lot of money.
I was driving my Uplander when the vehicle jerked to the left. It resulted in my driving over a concrete median and causing $4000. 00 of damage to vehicle. I did not realize until I picked the van up from repair that this may possibly not be my fault. Driving home on the day I picked the van up from repair, the van again jerked to the left and I almost had another wreck. I have owned the van since June and have not had this problem, however, I have had the van in the shop for numerous other complaints, such as the power doors malfunctioning, a shake in the front end, loud clunking noise when accelerating uphill, squeak in the steering. I am now very concerned about the safety of this van.
Vehicle drives satisfactory within city limits. Highway driving appears to be highly unstable. Vehicle has excessive swaying and poor handling. Incident is not isolated, it continues to be a problem with each circumstance. I do not feel that my passengers nor myself are safe while driving on the highway with this vehicle. Problem was reported to the dealership and gm immediately but issue was dismissed. This vehicle is a 7 passenger minivan. This is not a truck.
