Hatchback/liftgate Hinge problems of the 2002 Chevrolet Venture

The vehicle is a rental vehicle. Cusotmer rented the van and went out to the lot to put his belongins in the vehicle. When he pulled on the handle to close the hatch, the plastic housing broke and the handle came loose, there is a metal bold that was attached to the plastic, that piece cut the customers hand right hand, between his thumb and index finger.
