1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2018

Suddenly my vehicle had a strong gasoline odor when I walked up on it in the morning I smelled it 3 feet away from my vehicle. It happened just like that all of a sudden. I scheduled my inspection with my mechanic and I told him I suddenly was smelling a strong odor of gas. My mechanic called and informed me there was a crack in my gas tank and it is leaking so that is why I was smelling gas so badly. We ordered another 2002 Chevrolet Venture gas tank from a salvage yard. They shipped the gas tank and when my mechanic opened it it was broke in the same exact place. This is why I thought looking up for possible recall. I found recall 07v349000. Stated the fuel tank inlet check valve can crack and leak. Stated affected Chevrolet Venture 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. I have 2002. My problem is it's VIN specific according to Chevrolet the number that I was given to call about the recall. 18006302438. My VIN number was not included. My problem fits the description perfectly but they claim they can't help me. This is a serious safety problem for anyone. I now have to pay over 1,000. 00 for a new gas tank or have no car. I do not have any transportation now. My Chevrolet Venture is sitting at my mechanics.

Each time the vehicle was parked, a puddle of fuel was seen on the ground. The contact's brother, a certified mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the tank was cracked at the inlet check valve and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07v349000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no open recall per the VIN. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

Icv (in line check valve) housing on fuel tank has started cracking and leaking fuel. Chevrolet says this unit is not affected by recall 07v349000. It appears to be the same as my other Venture we had the recall performed on leaking at same spot. This is a fire hazard and gm should repair this on all Venture vans. I have run across hundreds of people in discussion with same issue and not within gm's VIN breaks. I think gm needs to look at this again. I have pictures to prove what is going on.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Venture. Upon refueling the vehicle, fuel started leaking from the fuel tank. The contact mentioned that the failure progressively worsened. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed a small fracture which may have allowed fuel vapors and small droplets of fuel to pass through. The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07v349000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 214,000.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

I noticed fuel mileage being really off and a very strong gasoline smell and had it checked @ our local repair shop and was told gas tank weld had failed; we were also told we were very lucky that we got it in as soon as we did. Very dangerous! was also told by mechanic that there had been recalls on this very thing and also even more service bulletins. I contacted gm and was told yes there had been recalls but not our VIN number group! now it's time to do this before someone dies or is maimed. They told me they were very sorry but glad no one was hurt! I was also told to save all my paper work just in case @ which time I told them I save everything! they were more concerned about why I had taken it to our repair shop rather than one of their dealers; I told them that the only thing I ever got from their dealers were that they could not ever replicate the problem; then our repairman would fix what they couldn't even identify.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2011

The fuel gauge either shows full or empty. It will show full while driving, but when sitting still, even if you just filled up the low fuel light will come on and the gauge will drop to empty. Other than setting the trip, you have no way of knowing how much gas is in the tank. When you get to half a tank or so, the light will come on constantly and ding. Have tried many things to fix this problem but nothing seems to work. I have heard this on a lot of this same type vehicle.
