The vehicle was parked. The button was pushed to open the passenger side sliding door, and my 3-year old son was standing still in the third row, waiting for the door to open completely. (I was standing outside, directly in front of the door as it opened. ) my son's foot slipped and his leg fell out of the van, and because the door was opening it pinned his leg between the bottom bar supporting the door, and the body of the vehicle. My son was injured. The door would not stop opening despite using manual force to stop the door from opening. The button was pushed to close the door, thus providing release of my son's leg, however in order to pull him out the door closed on us and we had to again push the button to open the door. This vehicle has no sensor for the side sliding doors opening. The space between the bar on the door and the body of the vehicle is approximately 2 inches once the door is fully opened. There is adequate space for a small child to completely fall out of the vehicle and potentially be crushed.
We have a 2004 Venture. The speedometer started being irratic for a time, followed by the temperature guage, and the gas guage. Now none of them work. The speedometer is stuck on 45 mph, the gas is over full (straight down) but sometimes moves around at the bottom, but it generally has nothing to do with whether or not I have put gas into the van. The temperature guage points down and to the left. None of the cluster has worked in over 2 years. I don't understand why this has not been recalled considering the amount of people that I have heard had the same issue.
: the contact stated the heater fans would not blow a significant amount of air. Upon inspection the contact found a mouse had built a nest inside the heater unit. The nest was removed. The dealer and manufacturer were alerted. Updated 05/22/06.
The contact stated airbag light illuminated intermittently, and the power door lock on the driver's side stopped working. He took the vehicle to an independent repair shop who performed a diagnostic test. No codes were found by the diagnostic test. Upon further inspection, condensed water from the air conditioning had leaked around the wiring and under the carpet on the front floor. The mechanic determined the water had shorted out the power door lock and affected the airbag wiring as well. The mechanic replaced the wire for the door lock assembly, however no repairs were made to the airbag wiring at that time. Updated 12/27/05.
I was pulling into my driveway when my spare tire fell off of its holder on the bottom of my 1999 chevy Venture van. The cable that holds it in place rotted away. I had someone tell me that they experienced a spare tire from a Venture coming at them on the highway. They barley avoided a serious accident! thank god mine didn't fall off on the highway!! I spoke to gm (customer care line) and they told me that this was normal wear and tear for the age of this vehicle and they would not cover it. Does someone have to be killed by this problem before something is done about it?.
While driving on the highway, the clip which held the spare tire underneath the van broke and the spare tire fell off onto the road.
I have a 2001 chevy Venture without power doors. A 10 year old child attempted to open the rear passenger side sliding door, when it completely came off of the tracks, pulling the brackets out of the vehicles roof. The door fell on the childs left foot, cutting off her big toe. Children's hospial had to reattach the bone where it was split in two and then reattach her toe.
In sept. '03 the rear cylinder brakes were leaking and needed replaced; in March '04 the front suspension went and had upper struts, mounts and bearings all replaced; in June '04 I first took the vehicle in for engine acceleration. The engine lunges and revs high but they could not reproduce the problem. I have had it in several more times since then; also in June '04 the lower intake of the engine cooling was found leaking. In oct. '04 the abs brakes went and it was verified the left rear wheel hub failed and replaced the left rear wheel hub bearing. Also in oct. '04, the transmission went. It was not engaging when the engine was cold and would not shift into gear. The dealership verified sun shell failed and replaced new srta transmission. Also at this same service visit, the dealership found the cam sensor leaking. They replaced lower intake and all related gaskets. In Nov. '04, I took the car in again for the acceleration problem, which they again could not determine. In April '05, I discovered my air conditioning did not work. They told me it was completely empty and that I probably had a leak and it would need to be replaced even though my van is still less than 4 yrs. Old and has only seen 3 summers and the air conditioning is barely used. In may '05, during a rainstorm my windshield wipers would not come on. Then all of a sudden they jolted on and nearly flipped off the sides of the windshield. I had to pull off the side of the road and wait for the rain to stop until I could drive again, all while my 4 children were in the van. I drove straight to the dealership and showed them the wipers. They looked under the hood and told me that the wipers came away from the support brace. They ended up replacing the wiper transmission, motor and crank. Chevrolet said they are not willing to help with any of the repair costs and told me that these things happen and I should have bought the extended warranty. This vehicle is less than 4 yrs. Old.
I bought a used 97 Chevrolet Venture from the norwood group in warwick, ri back in sept 2002. Approximately 5 weeks ago I began experiencing overheating problems. I took the vehicle to pep boys in warick, ri for a diagnostic thinking that it was the thermostat. They ran the test and came back with an engine problem and advised me to take the vehicle back to the dealership. I did this and the service dept at norwood informed me that there was a problem with the intake manifold gasket. After having my vehicle for two weeks they repaired that and when taking it for a test drive before returning it to me they decided that I now had a throttle body problem. Fixed that and two weeks later the vehicle started to smell strongly of gas. Again I took it to pep boys where another diagnostic was run and it was determined that the fuel injector, intake manifold and the fuel injector kit had to be replaced. Back to norwood I go. . . . Norwood assumed a portion of this repair but it still cost me a lot more money than it should have considering they had just done this work. Less than 48 hours after getting my vehicle back, while on the road and 120 miles away from home the vehicle caught fire from underneath. Oil is sprayed all over the vehicle's exterior, the engine and undercarriage. I had to pay to have the vehicle towed back to norwood. The engine appears to be seized up and will not turn over. I am extremely disappointed over the performance of this vehicle, the dealership and the cash outlay I am having forced upon me. I want to know what can be done in the way of recourse.
Water accumulates in the right front passenger floor mat, then saturates the added floor mat (by osmossis ???). Fitsr occurred August 1998, then again several years later, and has occurred repeatedly (four times) in 2003 during a trip of about 1800 miles (round trip). The Chevrolet service department has advised that the a/c drain line was stopped up (and was reopened by the mechanic), but the drainage from the unit drain line can be seen dripping to the ground from the frame of the vehicle. (it appears to be draining onto the frame and dripping in two separate puddles from each side of the right frame, just in front of the fire wall. We bought this vehicle in November 1997, the first sign of a wet floor mat occurred in August of 1998. It occurred again in July 2002, then in June 2003 (when the drain line was again reopened), then during the 11 day trip (from June 30th through July 10th the wet floor mat situation returned. From 15jul03 through 25jul03 the Chevrolet service department attempted to locate the source of the water leak, and was unable to get the vehicle to leak !!! any ideas ?????.
Blown head gasket. . . . . . . . .
Starting at about 25-30,000 miles, I had to replace several stoplight bulbs (left side only) on my 2000 Venture van. Two or three seemed to go in a short amount of time, but the last one I put in lasted until recently - about 75,000 miles. Overall, there have been about 6 bulbs replaced. A couple of times I looked and the filament was intact, but the base of the bulb seemed blackened so I replaced it anyway. In checking one day in may or June, I noticed that both the left and the right (which had never been touched) were out. The bulbs were still good, but the bases (receptacles) in both housings were melted so that I could not even get the right one back in. A mechanic friend (not Chevrolet) said he had seen that happen a couple of times in Ventures. My local dealer said it would cost $70+ to even look at it and that they weren't aware of any recall for this problem. I then called a gm complaint number my dealer gave me, explained the problem, and she called the dealer. The dealer then checked the lights without charge and told me that - yes indeed - the bases were burned just like I said but they could not tell me why! after examination of the situation: (1) yes. . . I do know how to plug in a new bulb (2) I used good quality replacements (3) the right one was factory-installed and had never been touched since I bought the vehicle new (4) there is no trace of water leakage in either light assembly (5) I'm a careful 60-year-old driver that doesn't ride or violently pump the brake pedal (no guarantees, though, in another 25 years!) (6) the bulbs were not burned out but the bulb holders (the base in the housing the bulb plugs into) themselves were toast (the left one we can wedge the bulb where it can work) (7) I've heard of a few instances where this has happened to Venture vans (8) on a few occasions my wife and I have noticed other Venture vans with a stoplight out. Shouldn't there be a recall if this is more than just an isolated case?.
Electrical tail light assembly connector, both left and right are melting (ground lead only). All tail lights, stop lights, turn signals, etc. Are out. Looks like connector was undersized to handle required current for all lights.
I am surprised no TSB exists for this problem that I can find. My 1998 Chevrolet Venture van had a problem with the headlight - the lens on the headlight housing fell off! discussing the issue with a number of automotive professionals, I learned this is apparently a common occurrence. Now if the lens falls off, the headlight bulb is exposed and can easily be damaged and not function - is this not a safety concern? should not this issue be addressed as a possible threat to safety in the operation of a motor vehicle? thank you.
When sitting still and turning the steering wheel, there is a low frequency loud groaning noise. It sounds like it is coming from the steering mechanisms outside of the passenger compartment.
While driving suddenly the engine light will come on. Had taken vehicle to dealer to correct problem. Had been fixed, but consumer believed that it could happen again. Please provide more information.
While in motion, another vehicle ran a stop sign and struck the vehicle. The consumer lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over at least three times. The driver of the vehicle had previously subscribed to onstar. After the accident, onstar neglected to contact emergency services and did not assist in any way following the accident, three people were injured in the accident. Attorney wrote in on behalf of client.
A few months ago I began having trouble unlocking my rear passenger door. I was very upset because I was trying to get my son out of the van and was unable to. I tried using the keyless entry, and the lock button on the door and nothing worked. I did have the childproof lock turned on, so I couldnt even get the door open from the inside. After a long time of trying I did eventually get the door open. This happens about once a week, and I am scared that if I were ever to get in an accident I would be unable to get my children out. I am going to take it where I purchased it and have it fixed, but I think there should be a recall on it just in case someone has the same thing happen to them at the wrong time.
Door will not operate by remote button; have to manually open or close door by hand. Vehicle been in the dealer shop on four occasions, and problem still reoccurring. The door was still not operating after being repaired.
Ongoing problem with engine check light intermittently keeps coming on. Dealer notified and unable to correct the problem.
Engine check light comes on and off.
No summary listed for this vehicle. ( dot number: na ).
Vehicle owner feels this part was flawed as it should not have broken. No safety defect mentioned in summary.
Power locks work intermittently, lock & unlock by themselves even with engine off and nobody in the vehicle. Dealer couldnot duplicate problem. Now 11/10/98 problem is beginning again. Sometimes locks will lock/unlock rapidly while driving. I've browsed this web site and have found that other gm vehicles (1997 grand am) have had similar problems.
Check engine light stays on. Dealer says faulty contact. Will not fix.
No vehicle description was available. Mr scc.
Cup holder failed. Yh.
I feel this is to early for this to have happened. We have only owned this van for 2. 5 years. I feel the dealer should make a warranty adjustment due to premature failure. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768327.
No problem, reporting that several service bulletin were done.
Engine light comes on and off after engine received 15000 mile check from dealer. Stayed on for a week then off by itself. Now back on. Will return vehicle to dealer for check.
Engine check light is on and has remained on for 2 weeks, indictating a defect. Dealer did an oil chang,e but it did not correct problem. At this time dealer cannot determine the defect.
