1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2023

Passenger airbag sensor mat is malfunctioning leaking water from passenger side ac, drain line or structure.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2022

Car suddenly lost ability to accelerate normally while driving. It could only accelerate extremely slowly, seemingly with great effort. It displayed “propulsion power reduced service engine soon” and engine not available” messages on the dashboard, and a check engine light came on. It sounds like it may be related to current gm recall 18215/ NHTSA campaign number: 18v397000, but nothing comes up when I search for this VIN.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2022

When placing the vehicle in park, an error message "shift to park" lights up even as the car is turned off. This has been an issue with early models of the chevy Volt. I have owned 4 of them. Every single one of them had this same problem. My current two Volt I just obtained both have this error message. The car thinks it's not in park when it is.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2022

The passenger side seat airbag sensor is malfunctioning. A message displaying “service airbag” comes up and the airbag light comes on. This happens numerous times during a typical drive (around 20 minutes) the airbag is turned off while the message and light is displayed. This issue has been occurring for about a year or two now. Starting around 90k miles, currently has 111k miles. I’ve done my research on this issue and many other Volt owners have this issue. Which is caused by a defect in the passenger side sensor mat in the seat that can fold over itself with normal use, causing the issue.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2021

Has had the blank screen display the vehicle is unsafe to drive. One can run out of electrical power and or gas and not know, stop on the highway and be in harms way. No turn signals, no speed indication at all, nothing. This is recall worthy! and needs to be addressed by chevy.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2020

On city streets and the highway, when increasing or decreasing speed the drive motor stator/rotary bearing makes a chainsaw type sound indicatingthe bearing and covers failure. There is already a service bulletin about this issue. This Volt has low miles and should not be my $1400 expense to repair when the manufacturer is aware of the defective parts causing this problem. This should be a recall item because the break down of the bearing will eventually stop the vehicles function at an unknown time.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

The Volt is displaying manufacturer control error code p1 e00$07e8 and is not charging. On the dash, the message displays as "service high Voltage charging system". This is a software error that Chevrolet needs to correct on the 2013 Chevrolet Volts at no cost to owners.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

There is a design flaw in the body of the vehicle that causes water to leak in and pool in the front passenger floorboard. There are lots of electrical components near where this water pools that could cause a safety issue.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

There is a bearing that fails in the motor which is a safety issue and should be recalled. It causes the engine/transmission to lock up and become inoperable which can result in a crash. They even issued a bulletin regarding it (pip5081), yet they have been refusing to cover it under warranty for me as well. This needs to be recalled and all affected owners should be reimbursed for any expenses they paid regarding this issue. General motors must be held accountable for this safety issue. This has been confirmed by the dealer and all of these vehicles are experiencing the issue.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2019

Airbag warning lights has started to continually turn on -- even when there is no problem. I think the sensor has malfunctioned.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

My 2013 chevy Volt is displaying a "service airbag" warning message. The local chevy dealer confirmed that the passenger seat occupancy sensor, (specifically, the "passenger presence module"), needs to be replaced. Due to the faulty passenger occupancy sensing, the passenger side airbags are deactivated, even when a passenger is present. The warning message is present (and intermittently beeping) almost continuously when driving, and obscures information on the screen in front of the driver. The cost to replace the presence module will be about $600, and due to the nature of the design, there is no guarantee that the replacement module will not fail in the same way again shortly. I have not been able to determine another way to ensure that the passenger airbags stay on.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Forward collision sensor has been giving false positives while driving a highway speeds around turns and in construction zones.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

While driving in rush hour traffic this chevy Volt's entire electrical system crashed causing me to crash right along with it. No brakes (antilock braking system fail)no steering or horn even worse. . . No air bags. . . . Results: multi-car collision with no fatalities but, several injurys.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2017

One of the prongs on the portable charger got stuck in the electrical outlet. Now we are unable to charge it at home without locating an inconveniently located charging station.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

I have a 2013 chevy Volt. The other day while driving my instrument cluster went black. I couldn't see my speed, fuel, remaining battery, signal indicators. I couldn't see anything going on with the car. The main instrument cluster reports on everything. I took it to a dealership and was told , "yeah these things go often and your out of warranty". I also looked this up online and there are a lot of other Volt owners that are dealing with this. This should be a recall. Gm knows they are selling a bad product. I shouldn't have to spend $1200 on a new instrument cluster every couple of years. Here is a link to some other owners with the same issue. . Read more...

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

Goodyear assurance tires. 2nd flat at low speeds in two months. Car tire just blows out immediately going flat. No known object was driven over, flattens out instantly. Second time in two months this scenario plays out. Should this have been at a greater speed, the scenario would have been far worst.
