1 Body problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

Coolant leaking and damage to drive motor battery coolant radiator due to the design of the vehicle that allows for rocks and debris large enough to damage radiator through. There is a service bulletin (13-06-02-001a) for this issue. When the radiator is damaged, the driver will suddenly receive a check engine light, reduce propulsion notice, and engine not available message. The car will suddenly stall and this cause a major safety concern especially on highways at high speed. However no active recalls, even though this is a common reoccuring problem amongst first generation Volts.

3 Body problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

There is a design flaw in the body of the vehicle that causes water to leak in and pool in the front passenger floorboard. There are lots of electrical components near where this water pools that could cause a safety issue.

5 Body problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/13/2020

When it rains or the car gets wet, there will be water that runs down from the upper right corner of the passenger side into the floorboard causing the carpet to get soaking wet as well as the electrical components that run underneath the carpet. It appears the sealant under the hood and under the cowl is faulty causing water to leak into the cab. This occurs when the car is stationary or in motion. This is a factory defect and needs to be corrected, not to mention that the electrical components getting wet could potential cause a fire or hazardous situation. Also I took it by a chevy dealership but they couldn't find anything in the allotted diagnostic time without have to charge me more to remove seats and carpet. I declined.

7 Body problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

I ran into a vehicle in front of me during normal traffic on my way home from work, two months to the day of picking up my 2018 Volt. The vehicle ahead of me may have stopped quickly, but it was not a stop the Volt shouldn't have been able to handle. I was on a street in my neighborhood I drive every day in traffic. I had mentioned to friends and family that the Volt's brakes just did not feel on par with the rest of the car and would be the only aspect of this ev experience I found lacking. I have the dated text messages to prove this. Now I have a Volt at the body shop for the 5th week (lacking an ac line for reassembly), an over 55% increase in my insurance premiums (per the renewal notice I just received) and what really hasn't been a good experience. While I'm waiting for the return of my Volt I have received the important safety recall indicating the braking performance may be reduced. If the car had been able to stop two feet shorter I'd have an undamaged three month old Volt and my insurance standings untarnished. That two feet ended up costing over $17,500 to the car. Turns out Volts are also expensive to repair. I'm a 55 year old male, no wild kid. Still stuns me that in 2018 gm can't get brakes right. . . The most important of safety systems.

8 Body problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

When pulling into my garage, the car suddenly accelerated unexpectedly and collided with the front wall of the garage (photo 08); when I shifted to reverse, the car careened out of the garage, across the driveway, and collided with my neighbor's home (photo 09), leaving skid marks (photos 06 & 07) on the garage floor. The car was in normal electric mode at the time. I purchased the car as a certified used car on may 3rd from dave gill Chevrolet in columbus, OH. There were 12,490 miles on the car at purchase and a little less than 14,000 miles as the time of the accident. I am uploading nine (9) photos.

My wife has alzheimer's can't stand up or walk so can't put her in the back seat . Door opening is to small. We were on the interstate running 70 mph and she pulls on the door handle twice and the door opens door. Did not know they were having the doors to open when the handle is pulled twice she almost fell but seat belt saved her. They need to put a child lock on this door also.

10 Body problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/07/2018

3-7-18 we have a 2014 Volt which is charged with our charging station. My husband was in the vehicle and I reached with my left hand to pop the charger lid open and with my right reached for the charger hose. My left hand finger got trapped in the hinge of the driver door unknowingly my husband slammed the door and crushed my finger with severe lacerations. I was cared for by the fire depart and was told to immediately go to emergency because of the severe injury ,needing stitches etc the user booklet has no warning of this nature. The charger lid xis 1. 5 inches from the driver door hinge. I wrote to gmac and was denied any claims to my injury. I asked if it is possible to take my grievance to the deign engineer and was ignored. I asked if the charger lid could be altered to open from left to right making it easier to reach with the hose but was ignored. We are a retired couple and do things together. I never thought I would go through the pain and suffering thaat left my finger attached but deformed.

11 Body problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/20/2016

I was traveling on a straight city street when I was struck by a vehicle coming off a side street that had lost control of their car. I was hit on the drivers side door. I was going about 25 mph. I hit my head on the door frame above the drivers side window. The side air bag did not deploy. I was taken to the hospital where I had a CT scan of my head and neck performed. I had a slight concussion (memory loss). Had head and neck pain after the accident. My car was a total loss.

12 Body problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

Wheels: original equipment tire with 5/32 tread, about 58,000 miles, noticed reduced tire pressure 3/15/16, filled tire; filled again 3/18/16 twice, about an hour apart, became totally flat. Side of tire, two repair facilties indicate it can not be repaired. Have rest of original equipment tires on car, were very recently rotated, and tire pressure checked before 3/15/16. Thought it may have been vandalized, dealer in middleton says it was not. All tires on care are original equipment. Loss of tire pressure began while stationery, filled tire, but did not hold air whether in motion, being driven on highway or city street. Is at a dealership in middleton, WI now. I purchased the 2012 Volt in 2/2013, never titled, from a dealer in elk city, ok after much research. In reading about Volt, there was no information about a back up camera. The car really needs a back up camera; I have hit another car parked on my own driveway while backing out, and in January 2016 I hit a moving SUV at best buy parking lot, delafield, WI. Person driving his car said he did not look for back up lights for break lights, I had checked to see if car may be approaching and did not see SUV. I filed with the dot, WI, since it was likely if police were called it would be stated it was a private lot. I have also had my car towed, the black rubber front that is flexible is easily damaged, and especially by a tow truck but can be easily damaged in winter with snow/ice, or generally in parking lots if there are concrete guides to stop car when pulling into spot.

13 Body problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

My Volt rear tail light is full of water. Dealer told me nothing they can do. This car has never been hit, bumped, or even been into a car wash. Feel this is a manufacturing defect and I cannot get anyone to listen to me. I see a lot of people on line having the same problem.

14 Body problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

The hatch fell down once I had it up and leaned into the vehicle. This has injured my back and I am now feeling tingling in my left arm and leg. I had this problem before where the hatch fell once lifted and it was repaired. The dealer said they replaced the support struts. This seems to happen in colder weather.

15 Body problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

Bottom half of the front windshield on the driver side was not properly bonded to the body. Problem was noticed due to a whistling noise at freeway speeds. Pushed on the glass from the inside I was able to move the glass with little pressure.

16 Body problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/21/2012

No accident: the degree of distortion in rear glass is unsafe. Optics may not meet auto glass and or federal safety requirements. I have worked in the glass industry in quality control and this glass would not meet company or federal standards. With distortion this bad the particle size could be an issue as well. This could be a serious problem. Gm has agreed to replace my glass, however I would be concerned about other rear windows in that same run time. ## VIN passed ## Chevrolet Volt 2012 ##.
