Brake Light On Problems of Chevrolet Volt

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle brake pedal malfunctioned and was very difficult to press down. In addition the brake sensor light had remained illuminated. While driving the braking distance was extended due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer davidson Chevrolet(5871 rome tyaberg rd. Rome NY) who diagnosed that the electronic brake control module and brake valve had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign 13v271000(service brakes). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 98,000. Jft.

Gen 2 Volt has a paddle on the steering column that brakes the vehicle and adds some charge to the main battery. (part of thr regen system) since it brakes the vehicle I believe that the brake lights should illuminate , they don't . In the owners it states that the "brake lights may come on". . . May???. . . . . I had the vehicle in the dealership for 2 days. The bcm was changed and that was suppose to fix the issue, it did not. I and other Volt form members feel this an unsafe condition. 17/2018.

This electric car has regenerative braking. Besides being in the regular braking, there is a pure regenerative braking paddle on the steering wheel. But when you use this brake, the brake lights to not turn on. This is a major hazard as I use this brake all the time and cars behind me do not know I am braking and have almost rear ended me. Chevy dealer says that is the way it is designed and is functioning perfectly. Why has this been approved to design a braking system without any warning lights? what can be done about this?.
