The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that water was accumulating inside the driver's side taillight assembly. The contact stated that the water caused a short circuit in the taillight, and the passenger’s side turn signal became inoperable. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, and determined that the wiring harness for the driver's side taillight assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Vehicle suddenly lost power and displayed shift to park on display. Vehicle will not respond or display any status other than shift to park. Vehicle towed to dealership. Diagnosis of their mechanic is failed becm module. Vehicle was brought to dealership 3yrs ago with infotainment center problems. Infotainment software was updated but problem persisted. 2 years ago it was brought to dealership with complaint of intermittent inability to charge propulsion battery. Sunshine Chevrolet stated their mechanic could not diagnose issue so it was not covered under warranty. I demonstrated intermittent charging issue by plugging vehicle into dealership charger in front of showroom. I was at that time allowed to leave without paying diagnostic charge. 1½ years ago while car was still under warranty car failed to start. Called dealership. They stated it could be 12volt battery. I purchased and replaced battery at dealership. Car started but intermittent charging issue and intermittent infotainment issue continued. Gm is refusing to cover becm replacement saying car is now out of 8yr warranty time frame.

Lcd driver panel, fuel,odometer, speedometer, screen is completely black. Started flickering then went out. No warnings given. I have no idea how fast I am going nor how much gas/ battery power I have.

Went out to start my car to go to work and the touchscreen or main data screen is black. I can't tell if I have any electrical power or if the heat or ac or stereo is on. If this were to happen on a trip out of town it could put me in severe danger.
Without warning the illuminated instrument panel goes black. Usually it happens during start up after the car has set for a few hours. The problem resolves itself after driving for several miles,or, if the car is shut off and restarted. Numerous complaints about the issue are stated in the chevy Volt forum online. The problem appears to be occurring in first generation Volts.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that the rear reverse light would not illuminate bright enough to determine how close the vehicle was to a wall or a person. The contact stated that the failure caused the contact to crash into and injure two pedestrians while reversing. The dealer made an attempt to resolve the failure and the manufacturer was notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 32 and the current mileage was 128. Updated 02/13/12.
