36 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

I'm constantly receiving a "propulsion power loss" notification on my car. I have brought the car in to a Chevrolet dealer and they refuse to fix it unless I start paying out of pocket costs because the ticket is "closed". This has been going on for about a year since I purchased the car last November and I'm terrified to drive this car since it literally looses power.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/24/2020

After fully charged my car, I pulled out of the parking garage and into an available parking stall at work on Friday January 24th 2020 at approximately 1:50pm. I let my car cruise into the stall while my foot is covering the brakes. Halfway into the parking stall, the car accelerated on its own. I applied the brakes but did not help. It stopped only when it jumped the front concrete stall with 2 front wheels and hit the trees then rolled back. I then immediately shift the gear to park. The day was sunny and road condition was dry. I was fortunate that it hit the trees and not other cars if I were to take this out on the road. The attached pictures shows tire marks as I am trying to brake and the tire wears.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

Breaks failed while driving 25-30 mph on windy mountain road . There was no warning , car started to accelerate downhill gradually . After about 0. 3 miles I was able to finally push emergency breaks (it's a button and didn't work at first ) get to more flat road and stoped the car by driving on gravel and dry brush . Vehicle completely lost its power about 2-3 minutes later . Emergency lights didn't work . Chp assisted us as car was abandoned in the middle of mountain road , blocking the whole line . Gm has not offered any explanation yet .

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Faulty front proximity sensor or camera resulting in false positives of object in front of the car. False warning lights and warning sounds as if an object is in front of the car when no object is in sight. Usually during the rain but occasionally not. Occurs when the vehicle is traveling less than 6mph. Happens around 75% of the time during the rain and about 5% of the time during dry weather.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

I was driving in 50 mph traffic it lost all propulsion. The problem I have sounds exactly like the problem gm has issued a recall for with 2013-2015 Volts. I believe gm did or should have anticipated the problem and did nothing. Gm program n172130462 has owners of 2013-2015 Volts bringing their cars in to dealerships for a software update. Gm has recognized that these cars "may have a condition where it could gradually lose the ability to maintain Voltage. If battery concerns are not addressed, over time the vehicle could enter a reduced propulsion mode while driving, or lose propulsion, or it may not start. " I brought my Volt in to the dealership on January 31, 2019, because it was not consistently holding the charge that it normally did and the car would often start in "low propulsion mode" when starting it after turning it off with the battery low or depleted. Despite being under warranty the dealership, bob steele Chevrolet in cocoa, FL, claimed the could not figure out what was causing the problem, refused to try further, and sent me on my way with a bill for their failed efforts. On July 19, 2019, I was driving in on my way to work in my 2012 Volt with 101,400 miles. The car switched from battery to gas as it had many times before. About one mile later it switched back to battery, gave a message that it was going into "low propulsion mode", and stopped providing any propulsion. This occurred while I was on us1 and it was dangerous for me to rapidly change lanes while losing speed to get off the road. I got to a parking lot without enough speed to get up the mild incline at the entrance and was stuck blocking the entrance while I awaited a tow truck. This loss of propulsion could have happened at any speed and things would have been worse had I been on the interstate.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/25/2019

Driving up the freeway at a normal speed, my Volt began to accelerate without warning and after applying the brakes again began to accelerate involuntarily. After I managed to pull to the side of the road by applying the brakes hard, smoke came out of the hood. I called a tow truck and he had to jump the car to start it again.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

The instrument cluster has gone completely blank in the car. It went in and off for two days and then died completely. This is a major hazard as I dont know how fast I am going or the gas amount I have in the car. This was a major problem as I was driving the car when this happen not knowing if the entire car was going to black out very scary moment.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

Like others, including the incident in rancho cucomonga, CA on the same day, April 25th, I was driving on the highway at high speed. I was in the carpool lane on the 210 freeway. I think I also was told to put the car in park. I lost the ability to accelerate on at a very dangerous time, while I was the furthest to the left in the late afternoon. Miraculously, there was only 1 car quite far behind me. So, after deceleration was forced upon my car, I began to steer the car to the right through 5 lanes - one of the widest parts of the highway at that point. Here is what I now think. I have been through loss of power in my 2014 Volt. I had accidentally turned it off while being on the highway. They fixed that design flaw in this 2017 model. I have shared my theory with gm. Gm/chevy has 3-way called me with the "stolen vehicles dept". They aggressively describe how they won't issue a slow-down through the on-star unless they have a request through police, the police are behind, the lights blink, etc. But, they're reluctant to share what happens next. They've been reluctant to share how they track your vehicle through the VIN and gps tracking. They're reluctant to share that this system can be hacked. It is evident that much can go wrong once the ability to control your car is placed in other's hands -- who aren't in the car driving it. The dealership could see the code of the slow-down. Of course they were surprised. This wasn't just a "failure". This is a "feature" in the car. . . But someone else used it without our permission. I want the on-star control disabled in my car!!! it could have killed my daughter and me. It could have killed the others who reported a similar situation.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

Volt has minimal propulsion when stomping on the accelerator in electric or hybrid mode. It has lost 60-70 percent of its power since new. It is a safety hazard when pulling onto a highway or needing to accelerate to avoid a accident. Chevrolet says nothing is wrong and refuses to acknowledge the issue not wanting to honor electric warranty.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

We bought a new 2017 chevy Volt at the end of December 2016 and had our first issue in early February 2017. What happened that first time was on (2/3/2017) while driving through traffic the car without warning turned off the electric wheel motors and would not allow us to power the car properly to get the car to the berm. We were nearly were hit twice while trying to steer the car off of the interstate highway as it decelerated. The car was completely disabled an needed towed back to the dealership. After the dealership had the car for a week they returned it with the explanation that the car needed to do software updates and they were too large to do over the car's satellite system but they never gave us any indication of how we would have been informed of the need for such an update. We then had another near accident today (4/6/2017) on the same highway and we were nearly pushed up under a semi while trying to maneuver off of the highway at 75 miles an hour. Again, the car without warning shut off the electric wheel motors and warned us to put the car in park. It happened in exactly the same way as in February but no warnings had been issued for our car and we almost had a horrible accident. My concern is for my family and colleagues safety at this point and I don't want anyone driving in this car. I hate to think of what would have happened today if my daughter, who is a brand new driver, would have had to deal with the same situation sandwiched in by two semi-trucks and with a car trying to pass on the shoulder around her it could have been far worse. I am in several chevy Volt groups on facebook and people who loved the generation 1 of these cars are having major issues from battery packs dying, to drive train issues, to speed control problems and more where people are having major system pieces replaced 2-3 times in the first few months they own the cars.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

The speed control would stick on during very cold weather. This happened at least twice to my wife. She rode the brake to slow it down but the car kept fighting the brake. This was city driving, in appleton, WI.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/10/2016

About a year ago I call chevy about my gas pedal pulling itself to the ground and the car taking off more than once. They never got back to me. Dont push the pedal when car is off cause when you turn it on it will do this. . . I think oct 2016 I was electrocuted un pluging my car. The 3 prongs burned my arm that will never be the same along with my lungs brain and tirednes ! I passed out cold it took me weeks of crying to admit to myself what happen. I felt angry and like the plug hit me going 100 miles an hour. I have been told that it how being shocked makes you feel.

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/14/2016

There's an odd situation when I'm in the electric mode and am passing over a bumpy bit of road: the vehicle accelerates automatically. The part that is troubling is that these are times when the driver would want to slow down. It has happened to me many times. I've been lucky, so far. But I hope this is remedied soon.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Friday October 30 at 1 pm pacific coast time, my Volt lost all power on the middle of the san mateo bridge. There was no shoulder and the car went from 70 miles an hour to a dead stop in about 100 ft. I had a "propulsion system failure" message on the display screen. I was nearly rear-ended by a semi, who in turn nearly turned over trying to swerve out of my lane. The semi nearly pushed another car into san francisco bay. This is a dangerous vehicle and the government should not allow it to be sold.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

2012 Chevrolet Volt. Consumer writes in regards to brake failure and vehicle acceleration issues. The consumer stated his wife had an accident. She stated the vehicle accelerated on its own, and applying the brake did not stop the vehicle. She was trying to park doing between 8-10 mph, when the incident occurred. His wife damaged two other vehicles, and her vehicle was totaled. When the consumer arrived on the scene, he stepped on the brake pedal, and it went to the floor and a dash light on the instrument panel read booster brake needs service.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

Unexpectedly, generally on uneven street/roadway, hilly the brakes do not immediately engage and will create a feeling that you many not be able to stop and/or steer, or keep the vehicle under control. After taking the automobile to a dealer about four times, it was determined July 2014 that brakes needed to be replaced. The car was and still is under warranty. I believe that the braking system is also covered under an extended electric car warranty. Brake problems have continued intermittently; are auto safety issue. The last two times I have not reported to the dealer, or Volt advisor. The dealer service advisor was incorrect about how regenerative brakes work in electric car. The blind spot is excessive for backing up, and every Volt should have had a back up camera as standard equipment, and bumpers that had crash test standards, but was not aware of options when car was sold by dealer sent a few Volts to sell. Aftermarket camera high price, less desirable than factory installed. Tax credit information should have been more clearly provided (including the tax form provided by dealers and bosch's partnership with general motors for 240 Voltec charger). Dealer advertising needed to be accurate and transparent. Due to uninformed. Or politically conservative cpa & broker (2 individuals), did not receive a federal tax credit for purchase of Volt or installation of 240 Volt charging system. I could have easily qualified for the tax credit, which cpa failed to adequately and accurately advise me for tax planning. I have loved the Volt. However, without the anticipated tax credit, past and ongoing braking issues, blind spot problems, large price drop in value of the car (which had similar prices for 2011, 2012, or 2013 models when I bought my car. The tax credit exists to encourage electric cars, not to play a game of "gotcha. ".
