1 Wiper problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/29/2024

P1e00 error code resulted in the propulsion system being reduced and climate controls turned off. My wife, driving at the time in a thunderstorm, lost the ability to drive the speed of traffic and also her windshield completely fogging up where she could not see. She could have been killed in this scenario in a number of ways. Took it to the dealer where gm apparently has no spare parts available for months??? parts at fault are related to the egr valve and cooler. Cel light came on and off for a few days prior. Failed to be able to pull the error code because it would go off.

2 Wiper problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

While driving my vehicle when the outside temperature is 50 degrees fahrenheit or below I turn my defrost on and for 30 plus seconds my front window completely fogs up and I am unable to see out of my front window and have zero visibility which caused me to crash.

3 Wiper problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/02/2023

In August 2023, while driving on I-93 in boston, car switched from battery mode to engine mode, and driver information screen reported "reduced propulsion". Propulsion battery charge and gasoline fuel levels were adequate such that this should not have happened. In this reduced propulsion state the environmental systems, I. E. Heat/defrost/ac, become inoperative. A thunder storm overhead was pouring cold rainwater on the windshield and it became fogged inside from condensation. Because windshield defrost was not functioning my passenger and I had no recourse but to frantically grab whatever we could to wipe away the condensation and keep some small amount of road visibility. This problem is intermittent. Car is available for inspection upon request. Reduced visibility in a moving vehicle is a safety hazard to the driver and all those in their vicinity. A dealer or service center has not been alerted. The vehicle has not been inspected for this problem. The intermittent problem of vehicle entering "reduced propulsion" mode first occurred in July of 2023. I have an on board diagnostic (obd) reader that always reports diagnostic trouble code (dtc) p1e00 when the problem occurs.

4 Wiper problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

There is a lot of interior chrome, something I have complained to GMC about before. Today it caused me to be temporarily blinded by the reflection of the sun at multiple angles preventing me from seeing other vehicles. I had my 3 year old daughter in the car with me as I was nearly killed because I could not fucking see. If my daughter had been hurt I would have lost my damn mind because I told GMC about this before!!!! interior chrome is dangerous and needs to go. At a bare minimum they need to offer replacement parts and install for all this interior chrome.

5 Wiper problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

The windshield washer tank was leaking fluid to the point that no fluid was available to clean the window. Upon repair it was found that a protruding screw had punctured the washer fluid tank causing the leak. The mechanic backed off the screw and added a rubber cap to the tip of the screw to hopefully prevent another incident.

6 Wiper problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/14/2021

Windshield wiper motor failure. There was a gm safety recall (15789) on the 2013 chevy Volt but my VIN wasn't included in the recall. It seems like it should've been as I'm having the same issue as other 2013 chevy Volt's had with windshield wiper motor failure.

7 Wiper problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/03/2021

When the engine is running and I am driving on any street or highway if I shut off any component off the hvac system, the vehicle will get very damp inside. On rainy, foggy, or cold conditions all the windows will fog in 30 seconds to the point I cannot see. It will take some time to clear if I turn it back on. There is some degree of damp musty feeling in my car any time I turn the system on as well. I am afraid it will start growing mold. I cannot get the dealer to work on it under warrantee. I have an extended warrantee. This problem has been present since the car was new. It happens still.

8 Wiper problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/24/2020

The hmi (human machine interface) module, a primary component of the vehicle's in-cabin computer system, can fail in a 2017 Chevrolet Volt while the car is at rest or in motion resulting in the inability to access or use the vehicle's installed back-up camera. The 2017 Chevrolet Volt has very poor rear visibility without a back-up camera. If the driver is unable to see clearly behind the vehicle, an accident is more likely to occur.

9 Wiper problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

The a-pillars are wide and often in my field of vision. I have had 3 close calls with head on collisions while on curving roads, and last week I nearly hit a pedestrian and her dog as I was making a left turn while they were in the cross walk.

10 Wiper problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/15/2019

The Volt center display has gone blank, probably a bad screen. The display serves multiple purpose: infotainment, navigation, charging control (being an electric vehicle), and most importantly the back up camera display. The rear hatchback visibility is very poorly designed, with great dependent & reliance on driver to use the back camera. Without the display, backing driver can not see a small child nor any object.

11 Wiper problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

Front window defroster not working resulting in poor forward visibility while operating vehicle. Window defroster not working because heating system failed. No heat while operating vehicle in electric only mode. Forcing vehicle to operate in gasoline engine mode provides some heat, but is not effective in cold climate city driving due to infrequent engine operation. It is not possible to force engine to operate continuously. Based on Chevrolet Volt owners forums the electric heat ceasing operation is a common failure in these vehicles and is the result of an electric heat / circulation pump component failure. This component is unique to this type of plug in hybrid vehicle that does not produce enough engine heat to keep the windshield defroster working. Dealer replacement of the failed component was not covered by the Voltec warranty though this is a unique component required as part of the Voltec propulsion system to provide enough heat for window defrosting in cold climates. The electric heater / circulation pump component failure rate should be investigated for these vehicles and determined whether a safety recall is warranted.

12 Wiper problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/11/2018

The electric heating system failed on my Volt which disabled the windshield defroster, creating a dangerous visibility situation. The Volt has two heating systems, the traditional waste heat from the engine's cooling system and an all-electric resistor pack. When the car runs in all-electric mode, the engine does not engage and the traditional heating system is ineffective. There is a mode that will operate the engine while the battery still has a charge, but the car still runs primarily on battery power and only runs the engine to maintain a certain charge level. There is no backup mode to force the engine to run if the electric heater fails. I park outdoors overnight in a parking lot. This morning, despite engaging the vehicle mode that operates the engine to sustain the battery charge level, the engine did not operate often enough to generate enough heat to defrost/defog the windshield until travelling nearly 2 miles. You can't sit and wait for the engine to heat up because the engine stops when the vehicle is stationary.

13 Wiper problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/23/2018

Driver's side window failed to return to closed position upon demand, resulting in distracted and unsafe driving condition at minimum road speed. Vehicle was in motion and at speed. This occurred in southern California in June. Had this occurred in chicago in January, this may have presented an additional hazard for vehicle occupants. Alleged cause of failure is a window regulator with a repair cost of $500. This defect appears to be common based on a quick internet search.

14 Wiper problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/14/2018

If the exterior thermostat detects the temperature is at or below 37 degrees fahrenheit, the a/c compressor will turn off and all of the windows (windshield included) will fog up. Resulting in extremely reduced visibility. If the exterior thermostat detects the temperature of 38 degrees fahrenheit or higher, the a/c compressor will enable and the windows would immediately clear.

15 Wiper problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/14/2016

The waterheater pump on the car is out at just 53l miles and chevy states that this is not their problem even though we cant get the part because it is back ordered due to so many individuals with the same problem. The reason this is a safety issue is that the car can not defrost the window for visibility. This is an issue and there are several Volt owners that are having the same problem due to their fault waterpump system.

16 Wiper problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

Bottom half of the front windshield on the driver side was not properly bonded to the body. Problem was noticed due to a whistling noise at freeway speeds. Pushed on the glass from the inside I was able to move the glass with little pressure.
