general problems of the 2011 Chrysler 200 - part 1

2011 Chrysler 200, 156k miles, original owner. At highway speeds engine will shut off! extremely dangerous as you lose power steering and brakes on a busy interstate. No warning lights. No check engine. Issue just started happening and has happened multiple times in last 3 weeks. Car is unsafe to drive. After occurrence car will restart after about 30 minutes. I do not know why NHTSA or Chrysler hasn't done anything to initiate an investigation and recall. This issue is widely reported on many forums. After second instance, a repair shop reproduced issue and saw u1403 so they updated pcm/ecu as they couldn't find anything else. It has happened since then and my scanner showed dtc codes p061c status code 30 and u0401 status code 20.

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the instrument panel went dim and the radio became inoperable. The contact also stated that the headlights were flickering while driving. The contact related the failure with the NHTSA campaign number: 13v282000 (electrical system, air bags) however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Car has been stalling during deceleration, braking and at stops. The issue was fixed only in one model when multiple years of this make and model was doing the same thing. The issue started in 2011 and was supposed to be addressed in 2012 but the actual recall to fix it was actually only for 2015 but I almost got into an accident by stalling. I bought the car & it started some days later in which the seller assumed it was fixed. After taking it to pep boys and getting other repairs it resulted in a $2k repair and its still stalling at stops and when slowing down. Why was the issue only fixed in 2015 models if it was made aware in 2011-2012? those models would need that recall repair also. I have not been able to drive it continuously without it cutting off for a full day and nobody can figure out why because no codes are coming up. When researching I found a forum where it was suggested this was a major issue that was never rectified by Chrysler. They closed the investigation but did not service all cars with this issue.

2022 winter - had to spend 2,000. 00 replace the heater core. This should of been covered in my books. I called damion Chrysler to report this issue. They claimed they were not aware of such an issue. But if you look at all the reviews they say factory left extra gunck/sealer is why the heater quit blowing hot air on one side. 2023 summer - now my a/c isn't blowing cold air. But gargage was able to locate the leak and repair this. Have had both drivers & passengar window motors/regulators replaced 2020 - 2022 now in 2023 same issue with my back windows. Had power to it so replaced the master power switch with a 200. 00 new switch.

My car will die sometimes upon acceleration and does not restart for up to an hour sometime. No check engine light comes on. From my research online, a lot of people are having the same issue and are reporting it to be a faulty pcm (powertrain control module). My rpm drops to zero and I have to coast to the shoulder of the road. It happens at least once a week.

The vehicle repeatedly stalls out when coming to a stop or when sitting at a stop light or in traffic, and has also shut off while driving at higher speeds on the freeway. This has put myself and passengers in danger, as power steering goes out when the engine is off and braking becomes much harder. The car will not turn back on if the problem occurs at higher speeds, but will turn back on if it occurs at lower speeds and stops. I have taken the car to several shops and they have confirmed this is an issue but cannot pinpoint what exactly is causing it, which has gotten to be very costly. I have yet to take it to the dealership for their insight into the issue. There are no warning lights on the dash, and the only slight codes I have in the system are unrelated to the way the car would drive as explained by the mechanics at the shops I have taken it to.

I will be driving at the speed limit and the vehicle engine will turn off. Power steering and control of the vehicle will stop. The car will not restart leaving me stranded on the road. This appears to be an issue that others are reporting. There is no check engine light or any notification that the engine is about to stop.

The car begins to buck hard and drive sluggish on the highway around 45 miles per hour. And when stopped idle at the light stalls regularly. I took it to the dealer and they had me replace the cam shift sensor. The repair did not work. It continues to stall.

Yesterday, when I was dropping christmas, presents off to my son at his moms' house. My 2011 Chrysler 200, convertible limited with 3. 6l v6 pentastar flex-fuel motor. Temp gauge went all the way up into red. Which had to cross lanes on highway so I could get off on the freeway ramp. Which I made it a block and the car stalled in below-freezing temps with no heat figuring out what to do as I get out of the vehicle I noticed brown motor oil bubbling and gushing out a coolant reservoir with oil streaks all the way down passenger side car including through rims. I researched flaws and issues that Chrysler acknowledges, like that class-action lawsuit for vehichlwes not covered under extended vehicles that have the same issue, and problems also how come even tho my vehicle 2011 Chrysler is not covered when covered is 2012 - 2017 even thos my car motor is identical as 2012 - 2013 which was the first generation with faulty oil cooler. Or when they used sand casting molds to make cylinder heads which some of the sand stayed and circulated through the system, causing oil cooler lines and coolant passageways. Pretty much was left stranded in freezing below temps with a car where motor oil spueling out of coolant overflow tank, over the windshield where I could barely see when trying to pull over. When I start my car the airbag, slippery or skid resistant and the anti-locking brake instruments comes on periodically and then goes out; the radio stop working, has no control of the steering wheel it wouldn't steered correctly yesterday and it wouldn't go in any gear except park. Go in park.

1) the engine suddenly cut off, power braking and power steering were gone. This happens randomly under any circumstances, with absolutely no precursors. The car will not start for about an hour, and after that time it starts with absolutely no issues, no check engine light, nothing. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. 2) while driving on the highway at about 65mph, all power was lost, and ability to control the car was extremely limited, and this happened multiple times. Only by pure fortune I avoided a fatal crash when the car died in rush hour. 3) after the first time this has happened the car was taken to a mechanic, and they were not able to replicate the issue under any circumstances that they tried, and there was nothing wrong with the car that would warrant this, as it has never been in an accident, and was well maintained. 5) no, has not been inspected by anyone besides the standard state inspection and the mechanic that attempted to fix it. 6) there was never and still isn't anything wrong with the car that I know of, no weird noises, no engine light, no issues whatsoever besides it randomly dying and then coming back to life like nothing happened. . My turn signal lights are not working all of sudden.

While driving, the vehicle loses all power. Just shuts down. No warning. No warning lights. No code. No check engine light.

Driving down the road and the car just shuts off for no reason and I have to try to find away off the road without getting hit. After it sets about a hour it may or may not start.

Going down the highway the electrical system shut down. This made steering, and braking almost impossible. All the gauges, lights, and wipers also went off. After coasting to the side of the highway and turning the key to the off position, was able to restart the auto. The auto shows no vehicle codes when connected to a scanner.

76 year old male 73 year old handy cap wife car stalled twice yesterday called Chrysler they said no warrenty they do not have a fix will call lawer if it happens again.

At random times, the car will just shut off while driving l or turning. Absolutely no power for a little bit. This has happened multiple time. I am unsure if this electrical or something to do with the engine. I have called to see if there was a recall she was told there wasn�t. I have seen multiple posts online speaking of this same problem from quite a few people.

My 2011 Chrysler 200 limited v6 will up and stall with no warning signs and between two dealership they can not locate the issue. The pcm and fuel pump are brand new and it still stalling with the last time being December 2nd 2018 as I was driving down the road going home. Hopefully the dealership will find out something as they ended up putting a car flight recorder on my car to record the stalling problem. By the way it had this problem since October 2016.

My Chrysler 200 will stall intermitenly going down the road. It does not matter if I am coming up to a stop sign or running down the expressway. Which is what happened the last time and it was very scary. It will also chug at times like it is out of gas when I have a full tank or 1/2 a tank. I know that the 2015's were recalled and it sounds exactly what is happening with my 200.

The car cuts off when driving or seating at a red light need help to figure the problem out.

When driving the red lighting bolt light come with traction control light the total loss of engine power happen on the interstate at about 65 mph in heavy traffic had to turn car off then start back up this happens about every other day have replaced everything thay have said no fix very dangerous.

Takata recall. Vehicle stalls when in motion.

While driving on the freeway during stop-and-go, rush hour traffic, my vehicle's engine completely shut off without any warning. At the moment of the engine stalling, I was coasting with my foot off of the accelerator at less than 5 mph, up a slight incline, on an overpass and inside of a construction zone that was void of a shoulder to pull off onto. When I attempted to depress the accelerator to make it over the uphill overpass, the pedal was limp and nothing happened. The electrical panel in my dash was off, with the vehicle still in drive and no physical or audio signs of warning occurred prior to the engine shutting off. I quickly hit the brakes to avoid rolling in reverse down the overpass, shifted the vehicle into park and turned the ignition key to off. When I attempted the restart the engine, the vehicle started as if nothing had occurred. After driving through the remainder of the construction zone, I exited the freeway. After making a sharp, right-handed turn from the off-ramp to the local road, the emergency "brake" warning light on the dash turned on and was accompanied with an audio warning. The light remained lit for the duration of the turn and for approximately 500 feet afterward until it turned off. No other abnormalities were observed with the vehicle. The vehicle has slightly more than 120k miles on it and nothing like this has ever occurred in the past. This appears to be a common problem with the 200, especially with the 2011 and 2012 models. My engine is a 4-cyl, 2. 4l. Despite this widespread hazard, and an early investigation by the NHTSA, no recall has been mandated. The rationale? because it occurs at a "low rate if speed". This is absurd. I was on a freeway overpass, inside a construction zone, during rush hour. If this not a hazard, I don't know what is. Please mandate a recall for this before someone dies on a train track or intersection.

S61 recall for some kind of safety module for my car. Chrysler won't fix it and it has been well over 6 months. My life and the lives of my family members are in danger and Chrysler won't give me a loaner car to drive until the parts come in.

We left canada to go on a vacation to southern California, the trip was 3200 kilometres. All of a sudden the wipers went up about 6 inches and stopped without being on. Later did it again. A few more times. We then tried to turn them on and it went half way and stopped. After that it did all kinds of weird thinks from turning on when the switch was off. This problem caused us to have to stop several times during our trip due to raining and snowing. The last day when we finally arrived to palm springs, when I shut the vehicle off, the wipers were on at full speed. I had to disconnect the battery to stop it. I then went on the internet and did some research. Thank goodness for people posting their problems on the internet, I was able to diagnose the problem to the tipm. It appears to be a recurring problem with Chrysler tipm's. And of course this is not a warranty item as the warranty had just expired in June. Totally disappointed with Chrysler's warranty and recall of their tipm's. From what I have read about their tipm problems, it has serious potential for injury. It can quit totally all of a sudden shutting down all power and stopping the vehicle on a busy highway.

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that the heater system in the vehicle became inoperable. The contact stated that the failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to local dealer portage Ford cdjr located at 3013 county hwy cx, portage, WI 53901 where it was diagnosed that the heat interchanger failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, however the referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

They have recall on it but have not yet fixed the problem.

Pulling onto a major busy highway my car shut off completely and would not restart. After spending $533 dollars in June for a electronic throttle control sensor, I'm now being told I have to pay $1300 to have the totally intergrated power module replaced which afterwards I may have to replace a power sensor. Of course, they won't know if the 3rd part is need until they replace the 2nd.

One morning, while driving, I discovered that the lights were on but the switch was on off. The fog and bright lights would not function. The blinkers did not function. The windshield wipers, nor solvent would function. Took the car to the dealer and they had to reprogram the tipm. No explanation as to why it had to be reprogrammed.

The light for the airbag malfunction on the dash stays on all the time. When I first start the car it dings as it comes on. This car only has 12,000 miles on it now, but only 5,000 when this started. I am afraid of a malfunction if I have an accident. They light stays on all the time until you shut the car off. This started last June of 2015 and has happened every day since.

Wipers sometimes do not turn on when I need them to. Highly dangerous, I have pulled over in the ran before because my wipers on a four year old car will not engage. Additionally, wipers will turn on randomly sometimes during the day when I don't want them to. Not as dangerous, but still very annoying. Chrysler tipm issue, the same one as previous issue 18 months ago. Wipers turn on randomly, sometimes won't turn on when needed. Replaced the tipm 18 months ago, and Chrysler refused to pay (started a ticket with their national customer care). Issue has returned completely 100% identically as before. I'm bringing it back to the dealership, and I've reopened the ticket. They said they will "see what they can do".

I have had my car major repaired in service over 24 times . I say lemon law! the first year I drive what dealership loaned me to drive while attempting to fix major mechanical problems. I put 5000$ down on my Chrysler 200 s 2011. It's my 3rd Chrysler to own. This one has caused so much headaches an out of pocket expense I don't know what to do! it sits again at dealership needing 3000$ more motor work. I drive it it totally dies losing all control no power steering on interstate . I-49 bentonville ark. Almost hit by 18 wheeler. Awful!!! the car starts an stalls out! lights flicker in dashboard. Blows cold air when should be hot! heater not worked 2 yrs now. Take the key out an the car stays running! it's cursed I truly believe . The service department has never seen such! I don't feel I should pay what's owed on my remaining loan to Chrysler. I've paid dearly since I've had this car. It's been a headache no one should have to go thru. Been stranded in arkansas way to many times an it's time I spoke up on the problems that I've had with this Chrysler 200s. 2011! I pray nobody has had to experience this issue. Not safe at all !!!.

Over the past 4 months, our parents vehicle has been in to the dealership for servicing 6 times due to the vehicle being completely dead. The car never sat longer than 2 - 3 days without being driven. They were told the problem was due to the license plate light, then the glove box light not turning off, then they weren't sure. On 2/26, the vehicle would only start and run, while connected to the jumper. The dealership took the car in and had it for 2 full weeks. The dealership could not diagnose the problem. Mom & dad picked up the vehicle on March 14th, no explanation as to the cause of the problem. Went back to the dealership on March 19th to find out if any further information had been determined. . . Nothing! they were then advised the car has to be driven all the time, to avoid dying because the computer system never shuts off and therefore, drains the battery when the car is idle. They were further advised to purchase and use a battery tender trickle charger and to keep it connected to the vehicle whenever the vehicle is not in operation. This is very inconvenient as our parents are in their 80's and don't get around so easy anymore. This is not an acceptable solution. They've had this vehicle for almost 4 years, if the computer issue as described by the dealer were accurate, why did it work properly for the first 3. 5 years and now has issues? the vehicle is still under warranty however, without accurate diagnosis, nothing is being done. The last communication we've had with the dealer was Friday March 27th. Telling us if the car doesn't die again by this coming Friday (April 3, 2015), they'll be closing the case. The problem has not yet been diagnosed or resolved. Is there anything we can do, any information you can provide, to help our parents get this issue resolved?.

Letter from congressman garrett on behalf of constituent re Chrysler recall notice. 2011 Chrysler 2011. The consumer made an appointment with the dealer. However, they cancelled the appointment. The consumer referenced recall # 13v282000.

Car is a Chrysler 200 , 2011 , I was making a right turn, and the car stalled , the speed was around 10 mph , I contacted the Chrysler dealer near my home and they told me that " do not know why the vehicle stalled " I explained , I was driving make a right turn and car stalled, and nothing works , car die , told me to bring the vehicle and I will be charge for it. I when to this site and I found out that is a known issue with this car , why the dealer told me that ? and why the NHTSA do nothing about, is very dangerous, I could be involve in an accident, could be injury or a fatal . Nhtsa waiting to be fatality in order to get involved????? why we have to die ? to take actions. Please fix this terrible issue.
