1 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2018

When there is over 50 lbs in the back seat or trunk on wet or snowy roads, the rear end of the car will sway back and forth causing loss of control of the vehicle. You will also see uneven wear on the tires with excessive wear on the inner most side of the tread vs. Rest of the tire with typically transporting people or cargo in the rear. Chrysler has a star case #s1517000003 on the issue but the case cannot be accessed by vehicle owners and the repair recommended is very expensive (quoted at $1,500) while this is clearly a safety issue. Vehicle cannot be driven over 35 mph without the sway causing loss of control on snow packed roads (the rear of the vehicle will suddenly sway one way or the other and requires corrective steering immediately to avoid a spinout). Star case #s1517000003 states that there is rear suspension traction loss on snowy/icy road surfaces, and kit fp number 68291120-aa (kit suspe 17023001) is needed to replace rear shocks, springs, upper and lower isolators, remove sway bar links and bushing followed by a 4 wheel alignment while setting front and rear toe to -10. This is a common problem and a safety issue as there are many cases that can be easily found with a quick google search, but rarely is a solution available other than to only drive a Chrysler 200 only on dry roads. It is a significant struggle to avoid swerving into oncoming traffic while experiencing this issue. Issue only seems to occur on the 2011 model and does not occur while cornering.

2 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

After vehicle reaches highway speeds for 30 or so miles there is a loud clunking noise in the steering area in the engine compartment. Took to dealership and they replaced tie rods and did a alignment. 2 days later same thing happens as well as the alignment was way out of specs, took back to shop where they replaced sway bar and left strut and alignment. Few days later the same sound is happening and the car is out of alignment ruining a new set of tires. Taking back to the shop for third and final time.
