general problems of the 2012 Chrysler 200 - part 1

It happened to my wife with our three kiddos in the car, she was on the freeway doing speed limit 65 when the car just shut off going around a corner at night all of everything shut off including head lights, power steering, and moter it almost through her and kids off the road in the dark ,the wipers shut off whenever they want and the healights off and on without warning, the horn blows unpredictable like , eceleration from bogging down to super fast causes the car to swerve and jerk around unpredictabley the windows sometimes work and sometimes not, once in a while car wont start and or stalls while driving. I'm really worried and scared my wife and kids are going to get hurt or killed or hurt someone else because of these electrical issues. I was so happy to buy my wifey something nice ,safe and sound to drive kiddos back and forth and take me to work and back for it to only turn out super unsafe and unpredictable , we love our crysler 200 still but its unsafe and needs to be addressed as soon as we can before anyone gets hurt or killed, I'll do anything to get help with resolving this issue. It needs help that I cant provide, or afford I'm still happily paying for it crossing my fingers nothing else this scary happens.

The first time this incident occured I was driving in a residential neighborhood and my horn started randomly honking. Over the past few months the horn will randomly start honking and will continously honk for long periods of time. The horn will blast for miles and there is nothing that I can do to make it stop. I have been pulled over because of this and it's terrible driving at night with the horn blaring. The horn does not work regularly anymore. Then my car started shutting off while driving with no warning lights and total loss of anything that is powered (steering, brakes, etc). I have had to pull over on the freeway in unsafe areas, stuck in the middle of intersections with kids in the car also. After shutting off sometimes I am able to start it right away and it will be fine and other times it wont start and after some period of time it will finally start. I replaced the battery and got a new key fob but neither one has fixed these issues. On top of the random horn blaring and car completely shutting off while driving I now have begun having issues with my transmission. It started randomly not shifting while driving causing me to have to pull over and restart the car after about 5 mins. I have had to pull off the freeway to restart my car. The transmission issue was random at first but I haven't been able to drive my car at all because it will not shift after 10 mph. It is automatic with manual option (which I never use) but it will not shift gears in auto mode or manual. The horn blaring is not only embarrassing but the loudness of it is detrimental to a persons hearing. I have read many reports of this particular car having these same issues and the fact that it completey shuts off without warning and loss of power steering,brakes is extremely dangerous especially when traveling on freeways/highways at 70mph not only for me and my children but the other drivers around me. I have not had it diagnosed or repaired by a mechanic due to the transmission issue.

At first the car started making chirping sound on the right side when ever the car idles. One day I was driving and it shut down while I was driving and the check engine light and electrical light came on, I finance the car and they do the repairs under warranty no electrical repairs. They did repairs to the engine they claim and the problem still persists when the engine shuts off while I’m driving. The brakes lock up and the steering wheel locks up. And you can’t change the gears to park the car. I literally drive with my hand on the emergency break out of anxiety, after it shuts off, the odometer and rpm meter both drop at the same time when it occurs, and after waiting for it to come back on the rpm struggles to go over the “1” I have to wait 20mins for the car to start back up every time. I got the car 03/25/2021 @ 130,800 miles. The car isn’t even at 150,000 miles meaning it’s only driven about 20k miles and this is happening & apparently only had 1 other owner. Not sure how true it is. Hi’ve already fixed the suspension issues on the car 670$. The engine repairs were under warranty I want to say over 3k in repairs they claim, the picture I’ve added is of the check engine light it goes away the next day I’ve only been driving the car when I need to so I don’t cause a bigger problem. I have been tiwed twice a d stuck on side of the road 4 times. I'll be driving along when everything just quits. Engine, power steering and power brakes. One time I was just about to get on a highway. Couldn't get car 100% off road. Very dangerous. When I try to restart car it trys to start. I let go of key and cajr just keeps trying to start. After being towed twice car started right up. So when it quits I give it about 10-15 minutes and it starts. Googled and people having same problem. Upon investigating I found that Chrysler, Jeep has been having this problem since 2011 and did a recall on the 2015s. If they know there is a problem, why aren't they fixing it??.

The car randomly loses power along with the power steering and cuts off. I could be driving for 30 mins and it'll be just fine then out of no where it may cut off at stop light, while I'm decelerating or even trying to gas up. It has cut off numerous times on the highway without any warning or light and I'll only know by the sudden loss of power steering or noticing the rpm gauge dropping to 0. Sometimes it'll start up just fine right afterwards like nothing happened and sometimes it'll take a minute or two to start up. It may start a right back up then cut right back off or it may start up and be fine until the next day. Sometimes it only starts back up when I disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few seconds.

The abs and terrain lights stay on, when car reaches 60 mph it pulls.

I only have heat on the drivers side of the car. We just hit our 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Had the car in the shop twice with coolant smells. Mechanics never found a problem. Everywhere I read there are tons of complaints about this issue. This is a $1000. 00 repair! a flush is $150-170. We have already done this. I'm ready to trade it in but I do love my car. Not sure about how I feel about Chrysler knowing about a issue and not offering assistance with the repair. Maybe they better send out a massive rebate to old owners in hopes of them staying a customer.

Car was in motion leaving a shopping area, turning right and accelerating onto a 4 lane highway. As 45 mph was achieved, the car decelerated and stalled. The check engine light and the electronic throttle control light came on. I looked up the etc information and read I may be able to try again to drive the car. I did try and rolled on the shoulder for about 1/4 mile before having to accelerate though an intersection. At that point, car repeated the above failure and stalled. I was able to make a right turn and coast into a parking lot. The car was towed. While waiting on the tow, I read several reports of the same issue occurring in this model vehicle, often while driving on the interstate or in other dangerous locations like an intersection. This failure happened with no warning - no sputtering, hesitation or warning lights until the failure occurred. This failure could result in serious injury or death. It looks to me to be a known issue and should be subject to recall.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at various rates of speed while shifting gears, the vehicle will shut off without warning. When the failure occurred, the contact would restart the vehicle and the vehicle would resume normal driving. I bought my car brand new in 2012 from chryaler Dodge and Jeep in springfield PA. I babe around 96,000 miles on my car and this will now be the third alternator that has been put in my vehicle. From what I know, the alternator should last up between 80,000 to 100,000 miles. I believe there has to have been a defect with my specific car. Along with some of the other recall items I am now reading about with my model, having kids, I am increasingly concerned about my health and saftey driving this vehicle. I want to know what can be done about this on your end.

While driving 45 mph on a highway, my car just died. The speedometer fluncuated, all lights flashed on and off, then just died completely.

Passenger side heater stopped working. Vehicle turns off while in drive and moving.

Rpm s goes up high while driving car will change gears speed slows down have to pull to side of road or freeway turn off ignition and restart car then the car will run fine until the next time it occurs again which is very often also when at light or stop sign vehicle will go dead took car for repairs transmission problem do not know why there is not a recall on this car looked on internet there a lot of people that have the same problem with their transmission when I called Chrysler was told my car was not on the recall list had to pay out of pocket for a problem that a lot of people are dealing with.

Transmission would not go into reverse. Kept going to park. Could not backup03.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. While driving at an unknown speed, the electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to oxmore Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (4520 shelbyville rd, louisville, ky 40207, (502) 895-4520) where it was diagnosed that the electronic stability control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

No heat on passenger side of vehicle, blows cold air. However, there is heat on driver's side. I took it to dealership broke heater door/actuator. I get to the part that needs repair I was given a quote of $650 to remove dashboard- labor cost. , repair/replace cost is not part of the $650. Reviews show there have been numerous complaint with this same problem for 2012 200 Chrysler. It 's a safety issue because passenger side windshield does not defrost because of cold air being blown out . . . Doesn't clear the windshield in cold weather nor does it keep windshield clear in rainy weather. Why hasn't a mandatory recall been issued to to manufacturer to correct/replace part. Car has approximately 75,000 miles. Blows cold air both when stationary and while in motion on all, road ways, all the time no matter if I am turning, braking or driving straight --- no heat on passenger side.

Takata recall I am sure you have probably received hundreds of complaints regarding this issue, as I have researched it online & seen the long list of other frustrated owners. This is ridiculous, it is a known common problem that the heating core in these Chrysler 200 on the passenger side does not work. . . It blows out cold air. Temperatures are now below freezing. I do not see fairness that any owners have to spend a grand or more replacing something that obviously was malfunctioning in most of their vehicles & many complaints (including mine) have been sent to Chrysler. This has been on an issue now since the season changed & it is cold. I do not have a grand to spend nor do I have warranty anymore .

The vehicle stalls out - power is shut-off without any notice. The vehicle becomes tdisable while trying to drive. This occurs three times this year. The only way to get the vehicle operating again it to put in park and restart the car. The steering while locks up as well. I have to take the highway to work everyday. Most of the instances when this happens I'm not driving on the highway. The stalling of the car occurs when you drive about 2-3 miles. The car bears left and starts to stalled out. It lost power. Every time this problem occurred it happens while the car is in motion.

While driving the car. . The cars electrical system stopped working. While driving on the freeway the car shut down and was almost in severe car accident because of the issue. There is a new battery and the alternator has been checked and is in great working condition.

I have reported in the past in regard to our 2012 Chrysler 200 with 3. 6 v6 engine of episodes of pmu shut down while driving at slow speed. The manufacturer warranty still covered the vehicle when we first experienced this problem we now are over 60,000 miles as Chrysler has not been able to resolve this problem yet. The engine quit while driving (3 times additional times), at highway speeds. We were able to get to the shoulder of the highway , without power steering and brakes; all computer support systems failed, but all electrical systems still worked. The problem has been checked 4 times after each of the stalling episodes, the pmu computer shows no codes (per Chrysler and the dealer) there is no problem to fix. The last episode the esc dash lite came on, followed by the brake and the abs lights started flashing on & off which caused the speedometer to bounce up and down while the ability to maintain speed or accelerate to maintain speed was lost(again there were no codes) the last 2 times this happen were 11/30/16 & 12/1/16. I have talked to Chrysler fiat but the dealer ani I have not been able to receive any service or suggestion in resolving this pmu problem. It feels like they are not concerned that there is a great safety issue that could result in injury or death. There should be some information available, as this has been a problem that have been ongoing for many models with the 3. 6 v-6 engine and over a number of years, which Chrysler has issued customer service notices to dealers and replaced pmu. Recalls have been avoided as there has not been any serious accidents, injuries, or deaths. If you have had this type of problem with your 3. 6 v6 contact Chrysler and the nthsa.

Vehicle stalled and would not start while driving (2 times )towed to dealer as (both times) tow driver could not restart. Dealer reported no computer codes and car started after car started on problem. There appears to be common safety hazard that has been experienced by many owners, that reportly Chrysler and NHTSA agreed upon a resolution to avoid a recall by Chrysler of this safety hazard in sept 2012. Chrysler doesn't acknowledge and not sharing this information with dealers so they can take corrective action. Various attempts tried to resolve this hazardous condition have included replacing the powertrain module, camscope replacement, monitoring the on board with a copilot computer-which also showed no codes. The dealer did say that Chrysler suggested an additional module be added to the on board computer, but none of their customers returned a third or more times as previous attempts were unsuccessful and appeared to give up. This life threatening safety hazard needs to beinvestigated and resolved, as we were driving on a roadway and the motor just shut off. , if this not resolved it will sometime cause injuries or deaths, which could end up with a recall something that Chrysler possible replacement of on computers.

Takata recall ----while driving, in motion, to pick up my daughter from school I start to hear a winding sound. My electrical system that powers the radio and uconnect system starts to shut down. My abs light and esc light comes on and im starting to smell a burning in the car,while this winding sound is getting louder, smoke is coming from the hood. The timing or transmission is disabled , the car shutsdown in the middle of the road, in front of the school exit. We could have been struck from behind or the side of the vehicle. Car smells like it caught fire.

I bought my 2012 Chrysler 200 in 2013. I 've had a recurring problem with the engine running hot because some malfunction prevents the coolant from circulating through the engine. I have spent over $2000. 00 trying to fix this problem and now my mechanic tells me the engine is no good and I'll need a new one. This happens when I'm driving. The car would run hot, I'd tow it in and my mechanic would fix it. And within a month or two, the problem would occur again. My mechanic ran diagnostics, he rebooted the computer systems and he gets the coolant flowing again but within weeks or a month the same problem reoccurs. I don't drive far to work approx. 10 miles daily commute. I may take a road trip on occasion but there is no unusual wear or tear on the vehicle. Im reporting this problem Aug 2016 but this has been a recurring issue over the years and the car is just for years old. I bought it used in 2013. I've spent so much money fixing the same problem and the car's problem always seems resolved until a few months down the road I have to fix it again. I haven't even paid the car off and its kaput and ready for the graveyard? this really is something Chrysler needs to step up to the plate and fix. I need a new engine now and I've already spent over $2000. 00 trying to fix this issue.

After owning my car for only a few months the check engine light came on and a minute later the electronic throttle control light and then the electronic stability control light. After taking my car to kendall Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram 5 times, an independent auto shop once and another visit to the dealership where the car was purchased my car is still having issues shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd. At least that's what the auto shop told me the problem is, with the transmission. I hit the gas and the car clunkers and jerks like a manual car when I'm just lifhtly pressing on the gas. The car doesn't even have 52,000 miles. I've had it less than a year and half the time it's been in and out of repair shops.

While driving, attempted turn was made going approx. 10mph and the vehicle completely shut down without warning lights or anything. Once shut down I am able to restart but having this issue remain is frustrating. Having this issue can cause serious damage and is extremely dangerous especially since I have children and I fear for our safety.

Brakes rotors bushings engine has whine and what sounds like a miss clicking noise on start up, clicking when turning ignition key withoht starting completely, and clicks when turning key off. Salesman says he called Chrysler and was told the 200 car is made to veer to the right to stop driver who might accidentally go to sleep from entering oncoming traffic. Dealership said call warranty. Had this 2012 car a with 46k that was a rental for a few days so far its engine is quite noisy. Calling warranty company to make appt to have car checked out.

Shifted the vehicle into reverse, when the vehicle is then put into drive there is a loud bang.

Takata recall- when driving car pulls back almost as if there is some type of transmission problem. There's shifting gears issues. Aa if it's confused as to what gear it wants to go into.
