Chrysler 200 owners have reported 4 problems related to steering column (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler 200 based on all problems reported for the 200.
The steering column makes loud "popping" noises at low speeds and when turning the vehicle. It sounds like the steering column is going to snap. In addition, I had to have all of my lifters replaced in the engine due to a loud ticking noise coming from under the hood. Lastly, the leather material is coming off of all of the doors in the vehicle, and the light for the emergency brake stays on even when the brake is not engaged. I despise driving the car and will never buy another Chrysler.

After putting on 4 new tires and new front brakes, we noticed an issue with the steering column clunking, and feeling very loose. After three trips to the service counter at a Chrysler dealership, (you would think that they would know what the problem was), I have figured out the issue thanks to youtube. Apparently, I there are many others having the same issue. And, I called Chrysler directly, and the girl that I spoke with stated that the part had been recalled on other Chrysler products, but not on my car. This part needs to be recalled. You feel like you are driving down the road, and the car is falling a part. You feel like parts could fly off at any time. Very disappointing! and, just out of warranty. This is frustrating. I've been to two dealerships complaining about the rattling steering column. Both dealerships state that they could not find the problem. Went to brakemasters for an oil change and the mechanic said the rattling is coming from the steering column. Both times at the dealerships the vehicle was still under warranty. I'm over the 3 year mark now and no warranty. What can be done?.
The Chrysler 200 vehicle that I purchased in April 2012 was brought in again on 7/1/13 for service due to front end clanging metal noises which occur while turning, backing up, slowing and stopping. This undiagnosed noise began following several engine stalling episodes, two of which required towing (since I was unable to restart the vehicle to drive in for service). The engine stalling episodes occurred while driving at 55 mph and as stated, twice resulted in towing and service. Service on the engine stalling problem occurred in April and again in may 2013. It is unclear why the remedy for the engine stalling was not followed per the NHTSA recall id # 11v487000 (engine and engine cooling) technical service bulletin/Chrysler manufacturer remedy- since that recall had already been published. In addition to this safety issue, the front end metal clanging may be the result of towing due to the engine defect and/or a result of another vehicle defect (recall #11v315000 - steering column). This is a vehicle that has multiple problems and poses a serious safety issue due to various problems. It needs to be off the road.
