1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

My car stopped on me, had a mechanic look at it and was told my alternator went out,. When he went to look up my part it showed it being recalled, so he called Chrysler and was told my part was on back order and they didn't have eta on it. So they found the part and could do the repair, but suggested I call Chrysler again to see what my options were before they did the work. So called my local Chrysler dealership and was told I pay for a tow and have my car towed to them, they could do a temporary repair, which I would also have to pay for a rental, but I still would have to bring my car back when the actual part comes. They didn't have an option for me to have my car repaired some where else than be reimburse. So I called Chrysler customer service line and spoke with a rep explained my situation and was told to go ahead and have the other place repair my car and I would have to submit my receipt for review to get reimburse.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

I was driving down the street and my headlights kept going dim & bright and the radio went off & wouldn't come back on , then my phone wouldn't work to call my husband , then an icon came on the dashboard that I didn't recognize and the car started to slow down and felt like it was trying to die, at this point I had been driving for about 45 minutes and I was almost home and as I pulled in the guarge the car died and I barely made it into my guarge . My husband tried to restart the car & it wouldnt start , as it was late at night we went to bed and my husband tried to start it the next morning . It did start and he started to back it out of the guarge and it died and started to smoke and it was extremely hot under the hood then it would not start again . We called the the Chrysler dealership and they came and towed it . We were told later that day that the alternator had gone out and it also had ruined the battery. The dealership said there had been a recall on this but our VIN# wasn't on the list . Our car is only 6 years old and we feel like it should of been on the recall list . It was $1,008. 00 to repair this problem . Could you please review your recall on this alternator problem . . We really feel like this was a faulty alternator and like I said our car is only 6 years old . We feel like an alternator should have last lasted at least to 200,000 miles and our car only had 52,000 miles on it . This is really bad for this new of a car. We have loved our Chrysler and had a 2003 Chrysler before this one , that we traded it in to get this one , it was 8 years old and we never had a problem 1 with it . We have thought about trading our 2011 Chrysler in - in a couple of years but now not quite sure we'll be getting another Chrysler at this point with this problem we've had with the alternator .

This incident put my life in danger and it really could have a tragic ending. With cars on all sides of me, not only was I in danger but I had four passengers in the car with me. Two of them being my small grandchildren. A police officer saw my dilemma and came to our rescue to and assisted us until we got the everyone on the side of the highway. 10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

Chrysler has a safety recall (p60) for an alternator problem which can cause the alternator to fail causing sudden shutdown of the vehicle and/or fire. The recall specifically states the 160amp alternator is affected, however many drivers are experiencing the exact same problem with the 180amp alternators in the same affected vehicles. On June 2 2011, my car shutdown while I was driving on a very busy street. I then noticed a burning smell, and upon further inspection it appeared to be coming from the alternator. The location of the smell was also confirmed by the tow truck driver. I contacted Chrysler about this but was given no assistance. The cost to repair the damage done to my vehicle exceeds $1000. The result of my vehicle shutting down suddenly could have ended in serious injury or death. Fortunately, my children were not in the car at the time. Chrysler is refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem with the 180 amp alternator in the 300 model.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

Alternator burned up during operation disabling car, smoke pouring out from under hood with strong burning smell.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

For the past couple of weeks I've noticed that my vehicle would make a weird whining noise when I would crank it in the morning. So today while cranking my vehicle I noticed that it was hesitant to start then I received a message on the dashboard stating "battery saver mode". I then noticed the whining noise getting louder and louder and then I started to smell a burning smell that was coming through the vents. I noticed that Chrysler issued an alternator recall for 3. 6l vehicles only and I feel that one should be issued to cover those who have the 5. 7l vehicles. I've noticed that several individuals have complained about this issue and Chrysler should do something to fix it.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Chrysler safety recall p60 failed twice (NHTSA recall #14v-634). Unfortunately today (less than 1 week after 2nd replacement) the alternator failed again leaving the vehicle acting erratically without power steering or power brakes or the ability the shift gears while driving kids to school. Thankfully it was on local streets and able to pull over safely. Sansone (Chrysler dealership) has now twice performed this Chrysler 300 safety recall p60 (electrical/alternator) repair without success. We have opened a new case with Chrysler asking to have it performed at a trusted repair shop in metuchen and receive reimbursement. They have sent us the authorization. If Chrysler dealerships cannot properly diagnose/repair/replace the safety recall problem/parts installed twice (last one last week) that failed again today, at no cost and without delay, dealer should send a vehicle to pickup the car (it cannot be driven more than a few feet before everything shuts down) and we should be permitted to proceed with a reimbursement option at a trusted repair shop. Apologize if it seems rash, but very upset of the potentially dangerous situation if it had failed on the highway at high speeds.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

On Saturday 11-1-14 I started the car and noticed that it sounded as though there was a slight hesitation starting. No warnings were present even when I reviewed all the possible ones via the information center. I drove the car to 2 destinations and with each start I noticed the same hesitation with increasing time. Again no messages provided by the vehicle. On the 3rd destination the car would not start at all even with attempts to jump start the car. I then purchased a battery and trove to the auto zone nearby and their tester revealed a dead battery so low that a jump was not possible. I took the car to my dealer with the info about recall p60 dated 10-8-14 that my vehicle perfectly matched. The alternator was replaced then I had 4 episodes of full panel alarms displayed and loss of ability to steer. Auto has been returned to dealer.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

Saturday morning, I was driving on the highway and my 'battery saving mode' light came on. Then the brake light came on even though the brake was not engaged. Then the wipers went on. Numerous other lights came on indicating trouble. The radio went off on its own and I tried repeatedly to get it back on and no luck. The on screen print changed to another language. I exited the highway to head to the dealer and on the exit ramp, my car lost all power. Luckily, was in one of the two lanes and cars were able to go around me. A gentleman who had witnessed my trouble on the highway pulled over to help me. I couldn't even unlock the other doors or open the trunk (where the battery is located) and he could not get in as I had the seat pulled forward to drive and it would not budge due to no electric power. I had police wait behind me for an hour and a half until the tow truck arrived. The car was towed to the dealer at my expense. The dealer advised this morning after doing a diagnostic test the alternator burned up the battery and I have to have both of them replaced! cost is approx. $1100. I contacted Chrysler and they advised this vehicle is not subject to a recall. My issues sound identical to others reported here! how in the world can this be acceptable? also this is my 4th Chrysler 300. I am very lucky this did not occur on the highway itself in the midst of rush hour.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

I was driving and my battery safe mode light was on. The vehicle all of a sudden began displaying other lights such as my engine light and a car with skid lines below it light. All of a sudden I lost power in my navigation system while driving my other lights began to turn ( mind you it is 9:30 on halloween night). My car begins to stall while I have my son, and 3 other children in the car. Luckily I was able to pull off of the road (safely with my lights out) into a school. Never one did I get a warning that my car would shut completely down. Turned vehicle off and back on in hopes of getting back up and running and to no avail. Had to get my car towed the following morning. This could have resulted in an accident had I been on my way home on a busy I-10 hwy. Luckily I was dropping my brother off and never made it on the hwy. Took the vehicle to the dealership and they told me it was my alternator. The vehicle was purchased brand new 3 years ago and should not be having this safety issue. Car is outside of warranty and I paid for the dealer to repair the alternator but when I requested my defective alternator back they refused to give it to me without paying them an additional fee. I wanted to take the altinator to get inspected by another mechanic for further inspection.

27 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

In rush hour traffic going 60mph on the highway my car started losing power, the radio flickered on off and my car was still going but my gauges the radio, nothing worked. I was in the far left lane and was almost hit by a mac truck, trying to cross over three lanes to get to the service road. The engine stalled, it was hard to steer and luckily there was a gas station nearby. Three people tried to give me a jump and nothing woked and there was no prior warnings. I had to call a tow truck only to find that my alternator and battery were fried. The worst thing is I called Chrysler to tell them about the p60 recall and they did not own up to the default until the second time I called from doing my own research. This could have been really bad for me because there was nothing that I could do after the engine stalled. I have owned three diffrent 300s over the last ten years and this will be my last. Someone should do something before someone loses their life and family members to issues that deserve immediate attention. Additionally, I have spent all day on the phone trying to replace this part and the only place that carries the part is Chrysler, what a ripoff. This will cost me over a thousand dollars for a car that I have not had a year and currently still making payments on.

28 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

On morning of 10/24/14 when vehicle was started a message came on stating "battery saving mode" looked at manual there was no instructions as to what that meant. Then the vehicle was driven, while driving the rpm indicator would move up on its own and then the brake light, traction and abs warning light came on and stayed on. After the warning came on the car despite pressing on gas pedal would not accelerate then a rattling noise came on so I quickly proceeded to attempt to exit the interstate freeway. As I tried to do that the steering started locking up, I had to push very hard on the brake to slow the car down and stop it. The vehicle completely shut off, unable to turn on or operate anything. The vehicle could not be jump started. When the vehicle was towed to the Chrysler dealership they were unable to charge up the battery and now they believe an alternator failure may be the reason for the engine to stall.

29 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2014

I was driving when I smelled a "burning marshmallow" smell coming from my car. Almost immediately, the abs light, a car with zigzags icon, and the brake light flashed on my screen. Followed by the radio, air vents, and power steering shutting itself on and off. Within 1-2 miles my car was done. My alternator was toast. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge the recall on the 3. 6 l engine, 160 amp alternators. So under my extended warranty they put another oem alternator in my car. I asked the service manager at the dealership that Chrysler sent me to, to replace the alternator with a different one that isn't recalled. They refused because Chrysler hasn't "launched" the recall yet. How ridiculous is this? when the recall is launched I will have to again replace the alternator. Approx. Nov. 28, 2014. Hopefully I won't experience a frying out alternator before then. VIN 2c3ca5cg1bh580006.

30 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

2011 Chrysler 300 alternator failed. The rotors were also replaced due to severe rust.

31 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

On October 11, 2014 I had driven my car twice that day. That evening while dropping my little cousin back home, my car started sputtering, lights started blinking and the car cut off and would not turn back on. It was completely dead, no power or nothing. I am highly disappointed in Chrysler. I have had this car not even five months and this has happened. Now it's just sitting in my yard and I am having to catch a taxi to work. It to beautiful of a car to just sit there. I took it to the dealership and they completed a diagnostic and said it was the alternator and they want $800. 00 to repair. Can't afford to fix it, because all of my money is going towards taxi fare, and the warranty doesn't cover repairs. Just imagine if I were driving with my kids in the car and this happened.

33 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2014

I bought my Chrysler 300 new in 2011. Around September 2013, I started experiencing problems with the alternator. The "battery save mode" light illuminated, then shortly after the alternator light came on. My car then started to loose power, then eventually stop running. Had the car towed to the dealership, which I was told the alternator is bad. A new alternator was installed, not even a month went buy, the new alternator stop working. The dealership installed a second alternator and now I'm having issues with the alternator again, making this 3 alternators installed 1. 5 years spread. This is the first and last Chrysler I'll purchase.

Driving 40 mph when battery light illuminated and a burning smell coming from car, I immediately opened the door and began to veer off the road. All the lights illuminated on the dash, the radio shut off, gauges stopped working, power steering stopped, brakes were not functioning, wipers came on and car came to a complete stall and began to vibrate. All doors locked and windows were not functioning. The car was completely dead and I almost got trapped in it. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a bad alternator which ruined my battery. Was charged nearly $1,000. 00.
