49 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2006 Chrysler 300C. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that there was a strong gasoline odor throughout the vehicle upon fill-up. The contact also stated that the vehicle shut-off while driving at various speeds, without warning whenever the fuel tank was at full capacity. The contact took the vehicle to freedom Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram by ed morse (815 e camp wisdom rd, duncanville, TX 75116) where the mechanic was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of failure and referred her back to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

2006 Chrysler 300c. Consumer writes in regards to repair reimbursement. * ld the consumer received a letter from Chrysler stating they were extending the fuel tank warranty period because some of the affected vehicle population may experienced a condition where the fuel shut-off float in the multi-function control valve sticks which may result in the vehicle stalling after re-fueling. The consumer stated he experienced the stalling issue, as stated in the letter.

3 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2014

I had just filled up the tank and pulled across the street and into a parking lot. As I was pulling into a parking spot the car died. I was able to get it restarted after about three attempts. After leaving the store I drove home and it died on me at the end on the parking lot as I was pulling into traffic. It died once more as I was driving through a residential area at approx. 25 mph. After I got it home, I allowed it to idle in the driveway for about 5 minutes with no problem. After eating dinner I took it for a drive and it happened again at an intersection. It died and took about five attempts to get it restarted.

4 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

Immediately after refueling, my car stalled three times on my drive home, each time when I was traveling about 5 mph approaching a stop sign. Since then, I have driven about 200 miles and have had no stalling problem. I took my car to a local Chrysler dealer and they could find no computer code error, and told me that I needed a new fuel tank, Chrysler received more than 1200 complaints about the 19-gallon fuel tank on 2006 Chrysler 300c, a problem where the fuel shut-off valve sticks, causing the vehicle to stall after refueling. In response to these complaints, Chrysler agreed to extend the warranty period to lifetime coverage. I called Chrysler customer service today. They refused to honor the extended warranty for my 19-gallon fuel tank as they agreed to in their letter -pe1016-58863. Pdf.

5 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

My 2006 Chrysler 300 stalls after I fill it with gas. This happened to me a number of times. I now longer can fill my gas tank. This is a dangerous problem as the car stalls while I am driving it. It stalled on me on the fwy. Luckily for me, there was heavy traffic and I was going 35 mph. I have been told I need a new gas tank which would cost me over 1000 dollars. There is a los angeles time article dated may 14,2013 which indicates nearly 200,000 complaints regarding 2006 300c, Dodge charger and Dodge magnum of having this problem. Chrysler needs to do a recall on these vehicles. Updated 03/12/14.

6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2014

Engine stalled soon after filling gas tank. Has happened the last two times the tank was filled.

7 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Vehicle stalls several times after filling up the gas tank, mostly while idling. And, it is difficult to re-start after stalling. Engine also runs "rougher" after fill-up. Problem has gotten worse over the past few months. Took 300c to local mechanic who says there is a problem with the gas tank overflow valve. Solution is to replace gas tank or never completely fill it up. It seems that with all of these similar safety complaints, Chrysler should find an alternative fix.

8 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2014

I was exiting a highway via an off ramp. When I came to a stop at the intersection the engine stalled out. After several attempts the engine restarted and the car drove normally. I had filled up the gas tank at prior to this incident.

9 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

After re-fueling vehicle, car stalled at 5 intersections. Vehicle was difficult to restart. Vehicle would not always go back into gear after restarting until several attempts were made. After burning off a few gallons of fuel on the highway, the vehicle no longer stalled/misfired. Tank was not "topped-off" when filled, it was filled until the pump stopped automatically. Stalling occurs every time vehicle is filled to full.

10 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

After re-fueling vehicle, car stalled at 5 intersections. Vehicle would not always go back into gear after restarting until several attempts were made. After burning off a few gallons of fuel on the highway, the vehicle no longer stalled/mis-fired. Tank was not "topped-off" when filled, it was filled until the pump stopped automatically.

11 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

After refueling the car it will begin to run, and idle, rough to the point that it stalls. This happens every time the car is refueled. Most of the time it dies while idling, but has died while driving several times. The issue is worse if the car is refueled from the point that the low fuel light is on. It will die several times when refueled from this low level in the tank. The car has died while leaving a red light and getting as far as the intersection and having to try to restart it while in the middle of the intersection.

12 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

On several occasions, most recently 12/21/2/13 after fueling up my 2006 Chrysler 300c to a full tank (not overfilling) my car runs rough and stalls immediately after pulling out into traffic or within one mile of leaving the gas station. My car will not restart for at least 30-45 seconds of cranking the engine. This is definitely a huge safety concern by pulling out into moving traffic when my car stalls. Dealership is recommending a new gas tank and vapor canister which is a very costly repair ($1,500 -$2,000) and they cannot guarantee it will be resolved and there are no current recalls for this issue.

13 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2013

Right after pulling away from a filling station the car stalled, immediately restarted, drove out on the street and stalled again before reaching the next signal light. Restarted kept slightly more pressure on accelerator, and was fortunate not to have stop or slow down in order to reach home it has did the same thing about a month later. The only way I can be sure of the incident not occurring again is to guess how many miles I have gone based on cars? approximate miles per gal since your agency has completed your inquiry ( NHTSA action number pe13016 ) and the manufacturer has agreed to extend the fuel tank warranty to " lifetime ", how do I obtain an authorization to have my vehicle repaired. I have received no information from Chrysler as of this date ( 3/15/14 ).

14 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Car stalls after fill-up. Will stall even without topping off tank. This will happen when pulling out into traffic. Will stall multiple times and buck while driving for a time. Can not fill up tank.

15 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2013

Filled up tank for the first time since purchasing my 2006 Chrysler 300c. (came from the dealership with a full tank) no more than 2 minutes of driving later the car began to shudder and lurch as if it were going to die. I was able to put it in neutral and keep it running but it was running rough. Continued on and pulled into a parking lot where the car died. I was able to restart it but it died shortly after. Restarted it again and was able to keep it running by giving it a little throttle. I began combing the internet and discovered this to be a fairly common issue after filling up. I limped the car home and siphoned a few gallons out. It seems to be running ok since then.

16 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

My 2006 Chrysler 300 c would just die after filing up with gas - happened on the freeway a few times- very dangerous. The dealer could not find the problem until we saw la times article 5/14/13 - they are fixing but Chrysler is not helping with $$ (replacing gas tank) car has only 42k miles.

17 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

For the past several months, every time I fill up with gas, my car dies several times before I get home, which is about 5 miles from the gas station. Sometimes it will speed up without me pushing the accelerator just before it dies. It dies before I get out of the gas station, sometimes. Other times it dies as I pull to a stop at the light 1,000 feet from the gas station. The most recent occurrence was 2 days ago. I've had it to the dealership service department twice for this, but they can't find anything wrong. The fill up before this last one, I only filled the tank half full, and it didn't die, so it must be something to do with filling it all the way up. I don't top the tank off, either.

18 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

My husband filled up the tank on 110413 (already had 1/4 tank). I drove to and from work, but once I backed into the yard the vehicle would not crank again. As I revved the engine the car would act like it would continue running after the initial start up, but as soon as I took my foot off of the accelerator the car cut off. I had to have the car towed to a Chrysler dealership, but no one mentioned the issues that customers have been having with this specific vehicle (2006 300c with hemi). Vehicle is currently in the shop and the mechanic mentioned it might be the engine. . . Oh really!!!!!.

19 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

After filling up with gas I went about 2-3 miles on us1 in wake forest, after stopping at the light at us1a I proceeded to turn onto us1a and my car stalled. I was in the middle of a lot of traffic and I had to manage to turn onto the side of the road and restart the car to continue to proceed. After traveling about another 1 to 2 miles it stalled again. This is the second time after filling the gas tank that this has happened and when the vehicle stalls I lose power steering which makes it very difficult to drive.

20 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

After leaving the gas station (filling the tank) the car sputtered a few times, then as I approached a stop light it stalled out. I pulled away okay but it stalled again at the next light. After getting gas, the car is hesitant while driving and stalls out, usually lasting for 1-3 miles.

21 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Approximately 2 months ago, vehicle started stalling after refueling. Every refuel since without fail the vehicle stalls. Stalling occurs within minutes after refueling and will stall 2-3 times in a 5 minutes period. The vehicle performs correctly once you get past this stage. Based on my research (internet) there have been many other 2006 Chrysler products (incl town and country Mini van) experiencing the same issues. It appears the separator valve at the top of the fuel tank is the culprit.

22 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

I was on the way to a doctors appt with my pregnant daughter on 264 heading towards chesapeake, va. I was doing 55 mph and the tank was on 1/8 th of a tank. As we were driving, about 15 min later, the car lurched, a ding was heard, the etc light flashed, the rpms dropped to 0, then resumed a second later causing the lurching forward. About 3 to 4 minutes and intermittently over the next 15 min later, it did the same thing, but also stalled at the stop lights on the way there. No codes came up when diagnostics were put on it. The throttle control unit was replaced and a relearn was done, this did nothing. Same thing happened. I have read many other reports of this happening and no one has an exact fix for this. Also, may have nothing to do with this, but about 2 weeks prior to this happening, I was filling up with gas and the tank overflowed. No problems occurred through the next 3 or 4 fill ups, the tank was on an 1/8 when the first hesitation and stalling occurred.

23 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2013

I filled up my Chrysler 300 just after buying it for the first time. After fill up I pulled away from the gas station and got to the stop light and it stalled. I restarted it and it would not go into gear at first but after a minute it did. Went for about hundred feet and it stalled again in front of my house. Then the next morning it ran fine until I filled it up again and it did the same thing stalled right after I filled it with gas I checked with the local dealer and they said they are aware of this problem and that it is an issue with the design of the gas tank and purge valve that only can be corrected by replacement of the fuel tank. I checked online and this an issue has happened for many owners and they have been told the same thing by there dealers. It is a factory design error that only be corrected by the fuel tank replacement as well as the purge valve. The reason it stalls is that when filled up the tank and purge vale floods the throttle body with raw fuel and the car stalls this stalling can cause an accident very easy as well as effecting the emissions of the vehicle. I feel that Chrysler should issue a recall for this defect which I understand has effected the Dodge charger as well as the challenger.

24 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2013

5 minutes after filling up my 06 Chrysler 300c srt-8 6. 1l at a gas station I was crossing over traffic to make a left turn and my car died in the middle of oncoming traffic. It took several minutes to restart then lurched forward after put into gear. This is the second time right after filling my tank this has occurred. The time before it stalled merging onto interstate on ramp.

25 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Car stalled in middle of intersection. Other cars nearly struck me from rear. Stalled after restart, blocking intersection. This has happened several times, nearly resulting in accidents. Always occurs immediately after filling gas tank.

26 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

My car started stalling and choking for 2-3 minutes after filling up the gas tank. It actually turns off 2-3 times with-in a block or two of the gas station and sometimes there is a 3-10 second delay when I shift from p or n into d. This first started in August and continues to happen. I've changed gas stations and it continues to happem.

27 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler 300 c. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle and driving 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact stated that the failure only occurred when he could completely refuel the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the fuel tank needed to the replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 43,000. Updated 02/27/lj updated 02/27/14 updated 2/26/cn.

28 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

My 2006 Chrysler 300c engine cuts out every time I completely fill my gas tank. This problem was first detected about 6 months ago. Since, I have been very careful when re-fueling. Sometimes I still encounter engine sputtering and eventual loss of power and steering control. I try to mitigate and control the safety risk as best as I can. I have to quickly throw the car into neutral and crank the engine to restart so I can avoid being a safety threat to others on the road. Also thanks to Chrysler, my wife refuses to ride in the car with me as it poses a significant safety issue at any speed on any road. I have never had this experience in a car before. This is my first brand new car I bought Jan 6, 2006 at the age of 23. I regret my decision ever since. I have lost a ton of faith in chrsyler products and the brand it represents. The one thing Chrysler should do, is to recall these cars and offer the fix at no cost to the owner.

29 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2013

Engine stalled for first time less than 2 miles after fill up at 25 mph on city street. Immediately loss power assist of both steering and brakes. Car weights 4040 lbs and I had a difficult time pulling into a parking lot and getting the car stopped. Car was immediately restarted. No future problems until nearly every refill when it stalls within first few seconds or 2 miles. Car now has 79550 miles. My wife drives this most frequently but I always fill the gas tank. I told her when it stalls, steer straight, put car in neural, restart, and hope you do not have to stop quickly. In NHTSA action number pe13016 Chrysler's [xxx] letter Aug 9, 2013 last page 17 states "if a stall after refuel conditions occurs, the vehicle has functioning steering and brake systems". True but with out power assist on steering and brakes car is very difficult to control. Most women and small men would have difficulty safely stopping car. Chrysler concludes this issue poses and minor risk to vehicle safety. I am a retired mechanical engineer and worked 40 years with power trains and strongly disagree. In this review vehicles 5, 6, and 7 all had problems with swollen refueling floats allowing the floats to stick and not function properly. All three cars were 2006 300c with 5. 7 liter hemi engines the same as mine. . On a11. Page 15, Chrysler acknowledges the vent valves was changed for my 2007. This appears to acknowledge a poor or faulty design in my 2006. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

30 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2013

My vehicle will stall out on me intermittently. It mostly happens right after I get finished putting gas in my car. Unlike most other stories I've read about overfilling the gas tank, this happens to me sometimes when I put just a half of a tank of gas in my car. Now, as of Nov. 7, 2013, it's done it well over 100 times; that's since the first time it happened in may. The dealership is a complete scam. They know this is a defect. They've charged me to fix everything from egr valves to pcms to spark plugs. Nothing has worked. Then finally I decide to do some deep research, that's when I decided to file my complaint. There are 2 major issues I have. When at highway speeds, I'll lose all power and throttle response for a split second, then it'll kick back in. It's extremely dangerous, to say the least. The more frequent problem, is the car completely cutting off while either at idle, or traveling at a lower speed. Both situations happen almost always directly after I put gas in my car. This happens so much that it is becoming unbearable. Sometime it starts back up, and sometimes I have to wait a minute or two. It's ridiculous. I don't mind paying to have my car serviced. However, diagnose the problem, know that's the problem, and let's get it fixed. Don't run me through $3,000 worth of repairs, knowing that you've got countless others with the same model and model year, coming in around the same time, complaining about the same problem. You know what it is. That's no coincidence. And quite frankly, it's fraudulent. I've got my 5 year old son riding in the back seat. What happens the next time my car stalls out on the highway and loses power, with another car tailgating me? what if it's a tractor trailer next time? will they have enough time to brake or plow into the back of me? more unnecessary stress and worry for the loyal consumer. Thanks Chrysler.

31 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

After re-fueling, the vehicle experiences multiple stall conditions while on the road. This condition has occurred multiple times and can occur both while driving and while stopped at a light. I've noticed that this more frequently occurs when you fill up the tank to the point that the auto shut off on the gas nozzle is tripped. The car gives no warning that its about to experience an issue until the car completely shuts off, most likely while you're already on the road. Right now the only way to combat this problem is to not fill up the car more than 3/4 of the tank. This method keeps the driver guessing as to how much gas should be pumped, and causes more frequent fill ups as you're not using 1/4 of the gas tank capacity. This is a very dangerous condition, and its one that should be communicated to all 300c owners immediately.

32 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2013

Engine stalled and stopped working as coming out of gas station after filling up. Steering went hard and brakes did not work, warning light (lube oil can) came up. Turned ignition off and on again, engine started but kept stalling. Jerks violently when moving slowly 0 to 20 mph , the engine continued to stall during deceleration or when stopped for the next 3 miles. Stalling occurs within minutes after refueling and will stall 2-3 times in a 5 minute period. The vehicle performs correctly once you get past this stage. Multiple occurrences - all after filling tank.

33 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2013

Vehicle stalled while turning into a parking lot within 3 miles after refueling (full tank). Fortunately, no other vehicles were ahead of me, and I was able to safely coast into a parking space straight ahead. As described by other owners, I lost all power "everything" steering, etc. Vehicle restarted after a brief period, and I was able to drive home. Took the vehicle to the dealership for repairs. Dealership immediately suspected the trouble was related to a full fuel tank and failing vapor vent valve in the fuel tank. I'm paraphrasing here but as I understood it, liquid fuel was breaching the vent valve when typically only vapors are vented. Remedy: replace the fuel tank. An expensive solution for what is seemingly a defect experienced by many owners. The fuel tank had to be special ordered, and once the part arrived, I was to bring the vehicle back with as little fuel as possible in the tank. On more than one occasion, I couldn't time the return to the dealership with my appointment so I had to refuel the vehicle. I purposely did not fill the fuel tank to full, and consequently, did not experience any subsequent stalling until I could return the vehicle for servicing.

34 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

In January 2013, I filed a vehicle safety complaint here about my v8 engine stalling after fuel refill (gasoline tank replacement repair bill was $1540. 93). The NHTSA office of defects investigation soon opened investigation pe13016 into the fuel tank problem. The odi information request to Chrysler cited numerous complaints, including mine. Investigation pe13016 was closed earlier this year by NHTSA because the "condition is adequately addressed by Chrysler's extended warranty" on 2006 Chrysler 300 fuel tanks. The closing summary refers to Chrysler sending letters to owners about the extended warranty. Since I did not receive an owner letter, I today called the Chrysler customer assistance center, 1-800-247-9753. The assistance center representative told me that my vehicle is not within the extended warranty because my vehicle (built within the extended warranty time frame) contained a gas tank with the sales code "nsks" and that the extended warranty only covers cars built with the gas tank sales code "nsk. " nothing in the materials posted online with pe13016 indicate that there are two different gas tanks, only one of which had problems. Please, reconsider whether the Chrysler response is adequate. My vehicle, with the "nsks" gas tank, clearly suffered the refill stalling problem addressed in pe 13016.

35 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2013

After refueling the vehicle to a full tank of fuel vehicle stalls and sometimes becomes very hard to restart. Once the fuel tank level goes down a little the problem goes away. This always occurs after refueling to a full tank of fuel.
