15 problems related to structure have been reported for the 1999 Chrysler 300M. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle has a split in dashboard around the passenger airbag. The dashboard has been replaced in 2002 for the same reason. The dealer replaced it free of charge the first time. This replacement was as result of a conversation the vehicle owner had with the manufacturer in detroit. The manufacturer or dealer will not replace it this time. The owner feels this could result in a premature deployment of the airbag. The split appeared six weeks ago, and continued to grow.
Consumer stated leather on the dashboard split where the airbags located, the splits were on both sides of the air bag section. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the warranty on the vehicle did not cover the leather splitting on the dashboard. Then, consumer called the manufacturer, and they said the same thing.
Cracks on left and right side of dash covering the passenger side airbag. Concerned that these cracks will affect performance of the passenger air bag in the event of a crash.
The dash board of my 1999 Chrysler 300m has developed a crack over the passenger side airbag.
The passenger's dashboard where the air bag is located has developed a 12 inch crack.
There was a split in the middle of the dashboard where the air bag was located. The dealership was unable to repair the split because it may render the airbag operation. The cause of the split had not been determined.
Air bag cover has a considerable crack on the left side. Consumer is concerned that the air bag will deploy prematurely or not deploy at all. The dealer claims that the crack cannot be repaired.
The dashboard had developed a cut or tear, where the passenger side air bag is installed. This could result in premature deployment of the passenger side air bag. The dealership indicated that the tear is a cosmetic issue and it is not covered under warranty. The tear cannot be repaired because it's a safety hazard, so the entire dashboard needs to be replaced. Consumer heard from other service dealers that the tear was due to the thinning of the dashboard to make the deployment of the air bag easier.
The vehicle's dashboard separated from the airbag. The dealer was notified. . . . .
Soon after warranty on my 1999 300m expired a crack developed on driver side of vehicle. I complained to the dealer and nothing was done. No repair shop would attempt to fix it because they would not want to be responsible for airbag. Months later a split developed on passenger side near airbag. I am very concerned that the airbag may or may not deploy. I now have a 12 inch split on driver side and a 8 inch split over the passenger airbag. It is unsightly and unsafe and effects the resale of the vehicle.
Dash on my 1999 Chrysler 300m has a crack on the passenger side where the airbag is located. We bought the car new and have kept it in our garage. The crack is not new it has been there for years. My uncle had the exact same crack in his 1999 300m as well. I've learned via the internet that this is a very common problem. I feel it could be a safety hazard since it exists right over the air bag.
The dashboard developed a long split/crack above the passenger side air bag.
I have a 1999 Chrysler 300m. On the passenger side of the dash board, a crack exists on the whole left line of the airbag. Now, another crack is forming on the right side of the airbag line. I know of another 300m that has the same problem. I am complaining because Chrysler refuses to fix this obvious defect because my car is past the factory warranty (53,000 miles). Even that being the case, I feel Chrysler should be responsible for fixing this problem. I am concerned if this could affect the way the airbag will perform, or cause it to deploy when it is not intended to. I would appreciate your help and inquiries on this subject.
The vinyl on the dashboard over the passenger-side airbag has spontaniously cracked open all along the crease that was designed to break when the airbag deploys. I wonder if this affects the force of airbag deployment.
A crack had developed down the line of where the passenger side air bag was suppose to deploy from. This was a common problem, but the cause had not been determined and a remedy had not be found.
