general problems of the 1999 Chrysler 300M

Five problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 1999 Chrysler 300M. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2011

The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler 300m. The contact was attempting a turn when the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a residential home. The airbags did not deploy. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure and crash. The vehicle was destroyed. Both the driver and passenger sustained minor injuries. A police report was filed. The failure and current mileage was 55,000.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

While driving and upon stopping the vehicle, it surged forward when foot was on the brake. Upon trying to start the vehicle again vehicle stalled, and acts as if it wanted to cut off. Consumer noticed the problem after having transmission fluid changed. Vehicle had been taken to the dealer four times, but problem recurred.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2000

After turning on engine and putting gear into reverse, automobile quickly went backwards at a 50 to 60 mph, crashed into neighbor's driveway and into a tree. Vehicle began to circle, and then hit another tree. Consumer sustained minor injuries to neck and knee. Witnesses stated that engine was very loud. Damage done to left side doors.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/23/1999

Second time reported to nhsta definate safety hazard on new Chrysler 300m and possibly other models. Car jumped out of park and flew into reverse with throttle wide open. Hit a dumpster then went forward 200 ft into a tree. Dealer states nothing wrong with vehicle. Owners state unsafe to drive without thorough investigation immediately. Several other similar complaints registered on this site with no investigation to date. Legal advisory with case action to follow.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/03/1999

While driving about 30 mph vehicle started revving and leaped forward. Driver could not stop vhicle even though he jumped on the brakes. Driver was finally able to pull to the side of the road and turn engine off. The dealer is aware of the problem, but could not duplicate this problem. Two weeks ago while the vehicle was being backed out of driveway, it took off in reverse without pedal application. Please provide any further details.
