Tank Mounting problems of the 2008 Chrysler Aspen

One problem related to tank mounting has been reported for the 2008 Chrysler Aspen. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

I was refilling the gas tank at a gas station. Immediately after the gas hose "clicked off" (when the tank was full), a very large amount of gas gushed out of the fuel filler neck past the hose nozzle, back-flowing from the fuel tank. I was standing in front of the fuel filler opening, holding the hose nozzle handle, and was splashed with gas. In my estimation the amount of gasoline spilled directly on me was at least one-half of a gallon. The front of my pants were entirely soaked, my gloves and the lower third of my coat were also splashed. I changed my clothes as soon as practical, fortunately, I was not injured (though having the skin of my legs and right hand temporarily soaked with gasoline, it's hard to be certain). I called my local Chrysler dealer and learned that there was a TSB issued for this defect (number 14-001-12). In my opinion the decision to allow this issue to be addressed with a TSB rather than a safety recall was a profound error in judgment. Updated 02/27/lj.
